What Is The Connection Between Aliyah, Aloe, Spikenard, Gardens, Trumpets and a Plough?

In the recent Post: Swords, Mountains and Gardens, the garden of Solomon was referred to… because

A shofar is a rams horn/trumpet.

winds blow, trumpets blow, Gods’ Spirit blows and there is a connection between Edens Garden

where Gods life was blown into Adam that is the same spirit of the bridegroom blowing upon the garden in song of Solomon

Awake, O north wind, and come, O south, Cause my garden to breathe forth, its’ spices let flow…

Blow on my garden, that its spices may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and taste his precious fruits.

AMPC [You have called me a garden, she said] Oh, I pray that the [cold] north wind and the [soft] south wind may blow upon my garden, that its spices may flow out [in abundance for you in whom my soul delights].

she calls the garden both hers and his, because of that oneness which is between them, Song of Solomon 2:16 & 4:16, whereby they have a common interest one in another’s person and concerns. This is of course symbolic of our relationship with the Lord, (the Bridegroom Yeshua/Jesus and the ecclesia/called out, ‘church’);  as it is of Israel to her God.

That the spices thereof may flow out; that my graces may be exercised to thy glory, the edification of others, and my own comfort.

Aliyah and the Plough.

עֲלִיָּה – Aliyah

There are several meanings to Aliyah in Judaism. Aliyah has the meaning for immigration of Jews from the diaspora to the Land of Israel (Eretz Yisrael in Hebrew).

Also defined as “the act of going up”—that is, towards Jerusalem—”making Aliyah” by moving to the Land of Israel is one of the most basic tenets of being an Israelite.

Another is the honor of reciting the blessings over the Torah and standing at the bimah while it is read; this is also called an aliyah (plural, aliyot), which means “going up.” This refers both to the physical ascent of the person to the bimah where the Torah is read and to the spiritual uplifting associated with participation in this event.

The third is connected to the Three Pilgrimage Festivals which are: 

Sukkot/ סוכות /Feast of Tabernacles /Festival of Booths which commemorates the wanderings of the Israelites in the desert after the exodus when they resided in booths. It is also the harvest festival – the  gathering of the fruits and grain from the field before the rains.

Passover/Pesach: the celebration of the exodus from Egypt is also the Spring Festival and the barley harvest and, 

Pentecost/Shavuot: is a celebration of the giving of the Torah, the grain harvest, and the festival of the first fruits.  

“Three times each year, all your males shall thus present themselves before God the Master, Lord of Israel.” (Exodus 34:23)

During the times of the Temple, three times a year the Israelites were called to pilgrimage to Jerusalem.

One in Passover/Pesach springtime, the second in early summer, Pentecost /Shavuot and the third for Sukkot in the autumn/fall; also called the Feast of Tabernacles/Booths. Of course there are 4 other feasts Unleavened Bread is connected to Passover; Yom Teruah/Trumpets and Yom Kippur are immediately prior to tabernacles.

The journey they all made is called the ALIYAH or the going up.

Simply because where ever you come from your journey was going to be an upward one in elevation due to Jerusalem’s location on seven hills. 

According to the tradition, the pilgrims used to stay with local Jerusalem families and despite the high number of visitors there was always room for all of them.

The pilgrims would bring the priests of the temple gifts from their fruits, harvest, cattle and flocks.

The main objective of the pilgrimage was to visit the Temple. Since the destruction of the Temple, the pilgrimage isn’t observed anymore.

As they traveled they sang and recited the Psalms of Ascent. The word ascent means a step, or an upwards climb. The Songs of Ascent is the ancient title of a collection of 15 Psalms, (or sacred songs).

These Psalms are so called because of the Aliyah and comprise Psalms 120 -134. They are also sometimes called Pilgrim Songs.

In Hebrew, the word Ascent is מעלה (ma’alah) which is used to describe upward movement, such as going up a hill or climbing stairs.

This was by way of preparation for the upcoming Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement, and the week of Tabernacles/Sukkot that followed.

It gave time for the Israelites to get their hearts right. This was an annual ‘making things right with God time’, prior to the first coming of Messiah.

Teshuvah

תְּשׁוּבָה, “turning to God”

In Modern Hebrew teshuvah means an “answer” to a shelah, or a question.

Here, God’s love for us is the question, and our teshuvah – our turning of the heart toward Him – is the answer.

Teshuvah is the Hebrew word for repentance and literally means to return to our Heavenly Father… and obey Him.

Deuteronomy 4:30 30 When you are in distress and all these things have come upon you, in the latter days you will return to YHVH your Elohim and listen to His voice.

Teshuvah is one of the great gifts God gives each of us – the ability to turn back to Him and seek healing for our brokenness.

There is a period of ten days between

Rosh HaShanah/Head of the Year/The Feast of Trumpets

and

Yom Kippur / יום כיפור/ The Day of Atonement, which are called the

Days of Awe/Yamin Nora’im/עשרת ימי תשובה,”

They are also called Aseret Yemei Teshuvah – the “Ten Days of Repentance.”

Then the blood of the Yom Kippur sacrifice was placed in the Holy of Holies, on the Kapporet/mercy seat, as the High Priest entered before the ark at this one time of the year.

These sacrifices are no longer necessary for the lamb of God has fulfilled all righteousness, however, as believers in Messiah Yeshua/Jesus Christ we can participate with personal prayer.

Another point of the Aliyah relevant to believers is that we are all called to continually, go up, on our journey through life; choosing the higher path every day, not just three times a year.

This time of reflection prior to the start of the fall feasts which begin this year with Rosh Hashanah at sundown on 29 September and ends at sundown 1st October. It is also the new year on the Hebrew Calendar and it will be the year 5780. (Hebrew: ראש השנה), (literally “head of the year”).

The trumpets will sound, the shofar – שופר – will be blown worldwide to call the children of Israel to the start of the 10 Days of Awe. The shofar blast is the annual signal that the spiritual year is coming to a close.

Yamin Nora’im/עשרת ימי תשובה.

A time of repentance, of getting right with God, before the Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement and subsequent Tabernacles celebration, which foreshadows that Messiah is coming one day to dwell with us; to permanently tabernacle with man.

This time of preparation is accompanied by a spiritual house cleaning and can often include a time of crisis, confusion, problems, dislocation and chaos.

After every harvest the fields are turned over and plowed ready for the next planting.

This is a picture of our life it is not something we like or even look forward to or see the flesh ever willingly initiate, nevertheless it is we that have to do it, God does not do this for us!

However Hosea 10:12, plowing up the follow ground is part of life.

12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. King James Version (KJV)

If we plant the good seeds of righteousness, our reaping will be a harvest of love.

If soil is never touched it gets hard because it settles down and it will never produce a great harvest, maybe just a few weeds.

Soil produces abundant fruit after the plow has gone through it, some people just use weedeaters/ Strimmers/ weedwhacker’s/ edge trimmers, etc. It’s really a lazy way of making a good show on the exterior because if we don’t pull up the roots, the weeds grow back. The plow turns everything over moving the earth completely upside down and it makes a big mess.

Only by doing this can the soil become loose and the rocks and stones be brought to the surface. It seems like chaos but it allows the oxygen, (breath of the Spirit) into the soil, then it is ready to become fruitful and bear life.

So when this process begins in our lives and it will… when we encounter crises, problems, turmoil, challenges and shaking, it is all the plowing of the Spirit.

He is allowing our lives to be turned over, not because we have done anything wrong, or that He doesn’t have a good purpose. It is because He does have a great plan and He wants our lives to bear much more fruit.

It is not something to fear or try to avoid but rather embrace, with a trusting submission to His faithfulness.

Our trust could be interpreted in the pictograph as: Look it is revealed that He is placing a fence around us, supporting and protecting us in the situation.

Just as the farmer prepares the fields, or the gardener the ground, it’s as natural as every process of growth.

1Cor. 4:17

6 Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. 

17 For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison,

18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

It is part of the pattern of life’s pilgrimage, they’re a necessity.

So be greatly encouraged for He has considered you worthy of such careful and precise attention and treatment, that in the end, will yield untold blessings beyond all comparison.

We are His

But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.” 2 Corinthians 4:7

It seems foolish to place a treasure inside a jar of clay. Neither does it make much sense to hide something of value inside something that is not worth very much; however as the believer undergoes these harsh attacks the jar of clay is broken down, but then, the Life of God within, which can never be destroyed, can be both seen and shared more easily to others who need this treasure.

Paul says in vs.12 that the breaking process at work in his life resulted in new life in Messiah for the Corinthians.

The reason that God put His treasures into jars of clay, is so the jars of clay would be constantly reminded that they have no power and that they are as fragile as a clay pot, only He has all-surpassing power.

If there is turmoil in our lives right now recognize it as the Spirit of God plowing up our fallow ground and preparing it to receive the new seed, we are to look joyfully for the harvest that will come.

This is one natural season of the plough, another is the spring, after the winter months have hardened the earth.

So whenever your plowing season arrives and it will…

For it comes to every believer and those who choose to make Aliyah in that season, as the wind of His spirit/Ruach blows on my/His garden of our lives, that its spices may flow out we will be a sweet smelling fragrance..

2Cor. 2:15 For we are like a sweet-smelling incense offered by Christ to God, which spreads among those who are being saved and those who are being lost. For to God we are the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.

Song of Solomon: The fig-tree hath ripened her green figs, And the sweet-smelling vines have given forth fragrance, Rise, come, my friend, my fair one, yea, come away.

..And will be released to those being saved

For we are a sweet fragrance to God in The Messiah among those who have life and among those who perish;

To God we are the aroma of Christ among those who are saved and among those who are dying.

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. Ephesians 5:1-2 

The Sweet Smelling Fragrance of our Worship. In Hebrews 1:9 we see that Messiah, the King of all Kings, was

“anointed of God, with the oil of gladness (joy), above all of His fellows.”

As a result of our worship of Him, of being in the Presence of our God and King Who was anointed above all… we will begin to exude the fragrance of His royalty.

Jam 5:7, Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. 8, Be ye also patient;…

The more abundant the yield, the more pleased is the husbandman, for His work is not in vain. Jesus’s parable not only informs us that God will do the cultivating, but it also tells us something about the manner in which that work will be carried out:

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.”John 15:1

yielding to that husbandmans work makes it easier.

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the husbandman. Every branch in Me that beareth not fruit He taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, He purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit” (John 15:1-2).

The soul that expects to be fruitful must be prepared to submit to pruning, and that means sorrow, heartbreak, heartache, and all that goes along with pruning.

The branch does not perform the care, the vine provides it all; the branch only has to yield itself and receive. It is seeing this truth that leads to the blessed rest of faith and the true secret of growth and strength:

“I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.”

Our lives would change dramatically if we only acted as the branches!

The ultimate goal of a true vine is to produce the right fruit of the desired quality by the husbandman and after all the tender care given to the branches, if it is not yielding fruit – the very purpose of that branch becomes defiled.

James 5:7, KJV: “Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

My father is the gardener and He knows the plans He has for us…

Jer. 29:11 For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. 

For a tikvah/hope and a future for blessing and for a good outcome a future for blessing, we must let the ploughing and pruning prepare us for the plan He has for our lives.

As we remember Messiah at this season of fall feasts, we should also be mindful that one day the last trumpet will sound, the last shofar will be blown…. one year He will return …are we ready?

are we that sweet aroma?

 

He will make us like a garden of fountains whose streams are fed by the mountain springs from the same mountain of spices.

Look beyond,

look up,

for redemption draws nigh

Pruning seems to be destroying the vine and looks as if it’s all being cut away; but the gardener, the husbandman, makes his cut with a sharp knife because he sees the future and knows the final outcome will bring greater harvest. There are blessings we can never have unless we are ready to pay the price of pain. There’s no way to reach them save through suffering. This is the bitter sweet WAY and is not the gospel most want to hear or experience…but it is His Truth and the Way to Life.

Will He find faith (faithfulness of His Bride) when He comes…

Could this be the temptation that Jesus/Yeshua prayed we would not be led into; recorded in Matthew 6:13 – It is the faithlessness of unbelief, and of trying to change our viewpoint from that of our Heavenly Fathers, to one less hard in our eyes?

Jesus/Yeshua only said and did what He heard and saw the father do – nothing more nothing less – and was obedient to death. This is our path also, to take up our cross and follow Him. This is not an easy road and we are not to pray for an easy one but for the strength to follow Him on the one He took and the one He calls us to take after Him.

When He blows upon our garden let’s answer with all our spiritual senses and prepare ourselves for the return of the gardener, the husbandman and our bridegroom. Let’s be alert for the sweet fragrance of His presence as He calls us to Himself and be ready to say, ani lo. 

Listen for His call as the shofar trumpets sound this month… one day He will catch us away to be with Him to tabernacle/Sukkot with Himself forever. Is this the year?

Plough up that fallow ground, repent and get right with God, make aliyah, ascend the mountain of spices whereof the streams make glad.

In Ps. 46:4 David tells us prophetically

4There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. 5God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early. 

Yeshua/Jesus is the river of life..

“And then they will see The Son of Man when he comes in the clouds with great power and with glory.” Mark 13:26

for He comes in the clouds with great glory to receive His bride unto Himself

Revelation 1:7 Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him–even those who pierced Him.

The Song of Songs, which is Solomon’s. אשִׁ֥יר הַשִּׁירִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר לִשְׁלֹמֹֽה: 

It is a timeless allegory of the relationship between God and the People of Israel, in terms of the love between a man and a woman.

A rose of the valleys: This is prettier than the rose of the mountains because it is always moist.

“As a rose among the thorns” 

Lily of the Valley has the meaning of:

humility, chastity, sweetness, purity.

Also means the return of happiness, which is the reason why it’s often used in weddings.

After Lily of the Valley finishes blooming, the red berries appear on the stem. 

The Latin name Convallaria means “valley” and Majalis means “blooming in May” (from Greek). This woodland plant is native throughout the cool temperate Northern Hemisphere in Asia and Europe. In different countries Lilies of the Valley are associated with sorrow, love, purity, innocence, tenderness and faith.

Spices in the Song of Songs permeate Solomons sweet story,  Shir Hashirim, is the equally pleasant presence of the fragrance of spices.

From previous post to refresh our memories:

Without the spices mentioned in this book of love between the Messiah and his Bride Israel, it would be harder to imagine the prophesied marriage, or the communion of believers with their God.  Spices seem to be referring to the ascent/aliyah to the heights of Israel, (Jerusalem) and pointing to spiritual heights experienced by being in the presence of our Lord and Savior. 

Conspicuously, the spices are found in the presence of both Bride and Bridegroom, and in the ‘garden enclosed’—a virtual garden of each delicate and holy spice.   Most of the spices mentioned are the spices of the Tabernacle, the use and purpose of each spice commanded by God to Moses and Israel, and pointing to the pleasant, beautiful realm of Heaven and the throne of God. 

A deeper look at each of the spices, shows not only the symbolic value of each substance, but the nature of the spices which point to Messiah and His suffering. (not included in that post but are in this one.)

We can say something like this to our Heavenly Bridegroom….Breathe upon me with your Spirit wind, stir up the sweet spice of Your life within me and spare nothing as you make me your fruitful garden. Hold nothing back until I release your fragrance. Please come and walk with me as you walked with Adam in your Eden paradise garden. Come and taste the fruits of Your life in me.

When Solomon talked of his beloved feeding the garden and gathering lilies: The Lord keeps on feeding and strengthening those who are maturing spiritually and gathering those who are away from His word and still need to know Him.

So man placed God in a garden of death and laid on Him spices, which also came from a garden.

In the Song of Solomon reference is made to the bride (us).

Let my beloved come into His garden.

Our lives are His garden too and we are also collectively His bride.

Song of Solomon 4:14. with nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with every kind of incense tree, with myrrh and aloes, with all the finest spices.

Song of Solomon 8:14. Come away, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young stag on the mountains of spices.

The title in the Hebrew text is Shir Hashirim Solomon’s Song of Songs, meaning a song by, for, or about Solomon.

The phrase “Song of Songs” means the greatest of songs (cf. Dt 10:17,

“God of gods and Lord of lords”; 1Ti 6:15, “King of kings”).

The Shir Hashirim is our tikvah and our place of grace which is Messiah Himself.

The book took its title from the first two words, shiyr hashiyrim, usually translated as “the song of songs.” This remained the title in Greek and Latin Bible translations in later centuries. The repetition of the word song indicates that the writer considered this “the greatest of all songs.”

A deeper look at each spice, shows not only the symbolic value of each substance, but the nature of the spices which point to the life of Messiah and His suffering.

The spices in the Song of Songs are mostly found also in many other places in the Word of God:  occasionally they are used as parts of the Salvation message, sometimes they are only mentioned as rich and elegant elements for Kings and the very wealthy. 

The spices of Myrrh, Aloes, Frankincense, Saffron, Calamus, Cinnamon and others like a tapestry, weave and waft through the Scriptures, telling the history of God’s Way with mankind in a thread as amazing as the history that is recounted.

It is somewhat hidden from view in the mystery of the Tabernacle, the light and presence of God in the Ark of the Covenant, and the ministry behind the veil/vail entered into only by the High Priest until such time that the veil/vail is torn and the High priest forever was revealed. (Matthew 27:51)

Spices are present in 2 significant journeys into Egypt of those loved whom God loves dearly.  They are present as Joseph is carried captive into Egypt by the Midianites for the later deliverance of Israel; and spices were part of the early years of Jesus/Yeshua, who like Joseph son of Jacob, was also on his way down into ‘Mizraim’.

Scripture also mentions spices that were part of the clothing of the Levites, and they were present with each covenanted sacrifice.  in Song of songs, the betrothed are adorned with spices but in Proverbs, they are used in a mocking way concerning the harlots enticements.

(Proverbs 7:17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon)

First and last mentioned in the Scriptures.

We read of spices early in Genesis, and 3,000 years later find them in the burial and the resurrection of the Lord,

Luke 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

later noting that in Heaven,  they are expressed as the sweet scent of the prayers of the saints.

Luke 5:8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.

To ignore the quality of glory the scripture assigns to the spices, deprives believers of the deeper understanding of the love and grace/ of God, and the intricate fashioning of prophecies and similarities pointing to the finished work on the Cross.  

The term ‘spice’ or spices is first mentioned in Genesis 43:11, although Genesis 37 mentions ‘myrrh’ as one of the spices borne by the captors of Joseph on his way down into Egypt. Spices play an important role and symbol throughout the scriptures, so that while they do not appear called by name earlier, they do appear in the first book of the Torah/Pentateuch, marking one of the first fore-shadowings of a Hebrew/Israelite son, who was rejected by his brethren, and sold into captivity with brutal treatment, the history of which will twist and turn its way into their salvation.  The first mention of the general term ‘spices’ in Genesis 43:11 is found among the gifts that Jacob sends to Pharaoh:

And their father Israels aid unto them, If [it must be] so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:

we note that in the Garden of Eden,  there are distinctions made regarding edible plants— those that are seed bearing vs. those that are not, and we can be pretty sure that the Garden was permeated by the fragrance of spices. 

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which [is] upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which [is] the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. Gen 1:29

The term used for ‘spice’ or ‘spices’ is :

נְכֹאת or ‘nekot’

referring to a fragrant powder.

Gesenius.  

Following that, the term next used most frequently for ‘spice’ is

בֶּשֶׂם or ‘besem’

which can refer particularly to balsam wood or to any sweet smelling fragrance or spice. 

The first mention of ‘spice’ is in Exodus in which it is referred to as a substance in the Tabernacle of God:

Exodus 35:52 And spice 1314, and oil for the light, and for the anointing oil, and for the sweet incense.

…although it is mentioned twice before in Ex 25:6 and 30:23 where it is translated as the plural,‘spices’.  Beside the gift to Pharaoh from Jacob during the famine, and the mention of spices accompanying Joseph, a type of Christ into Egypt,  spices are mentioned early in the Bible as the visual component of worship and the Tabernacle: its sacrifices, incense, scent of the priests’ robes and furnishings, but most centrally, the special spices commanded of God to attend the Shekinah glory of God behind the vail of the Holy of Holies.

Last Mention

The Bible mentions the general words ‘spice’ (besem) 29 times in 25 verses, and ‘spices’ (nekot), 29 times in 31 verses though that is not an entirely accurate picture since the same words are at times translated both as singular and plural.  ‘Besem’, ‘Basam’ and nekot are all used, and the number is big if all the variations of the individually named spices such as spikenard, calamus and myrrh are included.  The last mention in the Bible of the word ‘spices’ is in the gospel of John at the burial and resurrection of Messiah:

Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.

The greek word,

ἄρωμα or ‘aroma’ is used.

The aroma of spices then is seen on the wind of Eden, as Adam and Eve are cast out into the world where nothing grows, and immediately following the rejection of Joseph by his brothers; Joseph as the one who would save Israel is taken to Egypt, attended by myrrh and spices.

Within 400 years of that departure, those spices and others will adorn the Tabernacle and the presence of God in the Ark of the Covenant.  What a beautiful picture of the fragrances of paradise, weaving on the wind and the Word, and attending the worship of Israel for her God.

Witness UNTO Me

And The Secret of Being a Sent One.

In previous posts we have looked at Eden and also The Calling. Here is an insightful look at the paleo-hebrew pictographs for some other words.

In English we know that the name for the Garden that God planted in Genesis, is spelled Eden.

What we may not know is that the first 2 letters of EDen, E and D, when put together, are also another Hebrew word. That word is Witness.

They are spelled phonetically as ayd and pronounced phonetically as eye-ed.

In modern Hebrew text the 2 letters are Ayin and Dalet

To what are we a witness and how do we become a witness?

The scripture says, Ye are My witnesses

What is a witness?

The dictionary definition is: One who testifies, who gives evidence, unfolds, clears up, makes plain, and helps men to right decisions in cases of disputed claims, or where personal integrity is assailed.

Witness means evidence 

Witness means the person who testifies of things or of people.

witness is something that is repeated over and over again.

Yochanan (John) 1:1-8 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.

As a noun; an individual who, being present, personally sees or perceives a thing; a beholder, spectator, or eyewitness. a person or thing that affords evidence. a person who gives testimony, as in a court of law. a person who signs a document attesting the genuineness of its execution. Testimony or evidence: to bear witness to suffering.

This role of a witness was not to be taken lightly. (As noted in Exodus 20:16 there follows a warning for a false witness.)

In Greek Strong’s Greek: 3144. μάρτυς (martus – phonetic mar’-toos) an eye or ear witness

Definition: a witness … testimony; specifically, a recorder, i.e. Prince — witness.

Of uncertain affinity; a witness (literally (judicially) or figuratively (genitive case)); by analogy, a “martyr” — martyr, record, witness.

Jesus/Yeshua said …

“And ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

Fulfilling that which Isaiah 43:10 says

You are my witnesses, declares the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me.

This expression is equivalent to that which occurs in the Book of Revelation (1:11),

‘I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last’ and it is remarkable that this language, which implies eternity, and is in the passage referred to is used in Isaiah to prove Gods’ divinity.

are helpful in creating a better understanding of what a witness is in the Hebraic mindset.

Ayin Dalet

Ayin is the picture of the Eye: to see to know to experience

Dalet is the picture of the Door –meaning that it indicates a path, a way, a place of decision or an entrance to life or death.

The 2 pictures put together shows that a witness an עֵד – ed ,(eye-ed), UNTO the Lord, is the one who knows, or who has experienced Him and will now be a provision of the WAY and an entrance to Life/Chaim for others.

After this witness speaks and declares what God has told them, then the hearers will have to make a decision concerning what they have just heard. (Not making a decision is a decision in itself). This decision or lack of it will determine eternal destiny.

The Word cautions us that if we don’t enter in, by choosing to go through the Doorway/the Dalet; (Yeshua said He was the Dalet/Door in John 10:9); it is clearly revealed, (apocalypsed), in 14:6 there is no other WAY Derekh, to life/chaim with God.

 

Who is the witness in Isaiah and how and why is this witness chosen?

The answer is bāḥar.

The verb means, to choose, to elect, to decide for, but in almost every instance it includes the connotation that the choice is not random.

This is choosing for the purpose of serving.

The word is used to express that choosing; (which has ultimate and eternal significance), and being of service, rather than simply a random event, is at the heart of the choosing. Because God carefully chooses certain ones for a specific task, it is also in His power to reject them if they deviate from that purpose. I Sam 2:27.

This witness is a servant that was chosen by God.

Chosen in Hebrew is

Bachar

בָּחַר (bachar) — to choose

A similar word in Strong’s Hebrew: 1069.

בָּכַר (bakar)

— to bear new fruit make firstborn, be firstling, bring forth first child new fruit . A primitive root; properly, to burst the womb, i.e. (causatively) bear or make early fruit (of woman or tree); also (as denominative from bikkuwr) to give the birthright — make firstborn, be firstling, bring forth first child (new fruit).

And the Greek word is:

ἐκλέκτος ‘eklektos’

meaning ‘Elect‘ or ‘Chosen

Bachar is made up of 3 letters (remember no vowels)

it means: to select, examine, approve, to choose.

Isaiah says that God has approved of and selected certain servants who will faithfully declare that He is the one and only true God.

Bet/beyt, Chet and Reysh

The Hebrew verb bahar means to choose, to pick, to take a keen look at. However, the pictograph is more revealing.

(reading Right to Left.)

In other words,

separating the person from the household, dividing one person from the rest of the family. 

If we recall Joshua’s words,

As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

  Separation is the essence of choice. 

To choose life, is to separate from all those pathways that lead to death. 

To become obedient to Torah is to separate ourselves from the rest of the family of Man.  Choice by definition, requires a distinction of division.

As Bahar paints the picture of:

the house that separates (fences) the person. 

It connotes that which we make as a choice creates fences. 

When we choose something, it then rejects or leaves other things.  It is essential that lines must be drawn in our lives and with it doors must be closed. 

The Hebraic idea of choice is ultimately the idea of separation.  In God’s world and His Way we can’t have our cake and eat it too. 

Choosing life automatically means rejecting death.  Choosing God’s ways means forsaking all other ways because there is no middle ground, no gray area for in this decision, that would be a compromise.

This is the called apart /set apart / ecclesia, and the meaning of holiness.

It is interesting that an offshoot of the root bhr describe young man, youth and chosen.

As Hebrew is not narcissistic, this is not referring to a longing for youth, but rather the recognition that young men are chosen for military service. 

In Hebrew thinking strength and vigor are to be put into the service of others, not to become an idol of constant vanity.

Writing Systems – Definitions:

Pictographic or ideographic – each sign corresponds to a word.

Logographic – each sign corresponds to a word.

Syllabic – each sign corresponds to a syllabic.

Alphabetic – each sign corresponds to a sound unit that makes a difference in meaning.

Phonetic – each sign corresponds to a sound whether the sounds make a difference in meaning or not.

Bet is the picture of the floor plan of house or tent

and is the 1st letter in Torah that identifies Jesus/Yeshua as the Son of God.

The letter Beyt identifies is a picture of the Son of God, because Beyt/Bet is in the Hebrew word for create which is bara (בָּרָא), and the Aramaic word for son is bar (בַּר).

If we separate the letters within the word for bara, we will have Bar and Aleph (בַּר א), which points to the Son of the Father (Aleph).

Chet is represented by the fence and describes a protected garden, private place, an inner room or a sanctuary…

(Here is a connection to Eden and we also saw this picture in the word Grace/Chen).

Reysh is the picture of a head; meaning the leader, master, or the PRINCE.

(Note the same word prince, used in the definition of witness earlier in post).

When these 3 are put together, it indicates that:

to be chosen/bakar, is:

to be invited by the master leader or prince to enter his tent/house.

This by definition, is also: inclusive of his family, which is in a protected place or sanctuary, like a protected garden, (Eden) or like a womb/the place of our hiding.

So whose house and family is it that the chosen/bakar is invited to enter?

The bakar is invited into the

family of the Son of God by the Prince,

who is

Jesus/Yeshua Himself;

The Sar Shalom the Prince of Peace.

Rev 3:2 also tells us more about who else can enter in Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

We also have to choose Him as written by John in chapter 1:12 13

When Jesus/Yeshua said …

“And ye shall be witnesses UNTO me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

Read that one more time for He actually said,

you shall be

witnesses UNTO me

Note the word is UNTO and not FOR. It’s not what we do for Him of our choosing but what and with whom we are in relationship; and it is UNTO Him which includes obedience to His Will, plan and purposes. Many do things FOR the Lord, yet it may not necessarily be UNTO Him. 

(It may have a bearing on the scripture?)

This makes a big difference to what His statement was meaning and also how we interpret it.

1:8 But ye shall receive power – and shall be witnesses to me – That is, ye shall be empowered to witness my Gospel, both by your preaching and suffering. Acts. 1:8 Ye shall receive power. Not temporal power, such as they dreamed of, but spiritual and moral power. Ye shall be witnesses UNTO me.

Young’s Literal Translation
but ye shall receive power at the coming of the Holy Spirit upon you, and ye shall be witnesses to me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and unto the end of the earth.’

King James Bible
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

This includes the Secret of Being a Sent One:

This is because He makes His disciples His very own possession, becoming responsible for them.

The desire that comes into a disciple is not one of doing anything FOR Jesus/Yeshua, but of simply being a perfect delight to Him.

The secret of being a sent one is truly being able to say, I am His, His alone; and He is accomplishing His work and His purposes through me. Not me, not mine, not myself, I am entirely His.

John 17:6 They were yours you gave them to Me..

1Corinthians 6:19 You are not your own….

To be able to say that I am not my own, requires reaching a high point in our spiritual maturity. A disciple, or those we call missionaries, really come under the function name of apostle, which simply means a sent one. It is not a title in itself but the description of a function within the body of Messiah.

An individual to whom this position of service refers, is someone in whom the Holy Spirit has brought about this realization. Those whom we call missionaries are those who are on His mission, sent ones with a purpose.

None of the disciples were sent out on the basis of what He had done for them. It was not until after His resurrection that they received the Holy Spirit, then they perceived who Jesus/Yeshua really was.

That’s when He said,

Now go.

Matthew 28:19; Luke 24:49; Acts 1:8.

God always gives His servants power equal to the work He asks of them.

A disciple is not born,

a disciple is made

…molded, formed and then subjected to intense heat.

The Holy Spirit/Ruach HaKodesh, interprets and explains the nature of Jesus/Yeshua, so that we can be made one with Him.

He does not win us to Himself in order to just display us in some showcase as a trophy or for us to live a problem free and carefree life of luxury doing what we choose to do.

When we choose to answer His call, it is a life long one and that of total commitment.

It’s not something that we try to see if we like it and then if we don’t and its too uncomfortable, we choose not to continue.

It is covenant and as above means to select/choose the best!

A sent one, is someone who the Holy Spirit has brought to a point of clear understanding of 1Corinthians 6:19.

What this means in reality is, that to confess and fully believe, embracing such a statement, the true nature of such a life is only evidenced by a sovereign decision and a deliberate giving up of self to another person and that person is The Lord Jesus Christ/Yeshua haMashiach.

His hard sayings are so often refuted and the emotions of our souls will argue the seeming severity of such a statement, however, we belong to Him not to each other. He paid the ultimate price for us. Therefore, Luke 14:26 means what it says, as in a comparison to and an example of, our allegiance and commitment. This does not mean that these individuals cannot be good, upright and saved but it does mean we cannot be entirely His and therefore we cannot be someone over whom Jesus/Yeshua can write the word Mine.

In truth, any one of the relationships Jesus/Yeshua lists here, can compete with our relationship with Him, including ourselves. We have a free will to choose who we belong to, spouse, children, parents or just living the life we want to as a single person and He clearly says if this is the case, you cannot be My disciple, for we are not entirely His.

Is this then the meaning of Acts 1:8 you shall all be witnesses to me/UNTO me, not for Me.

Ye Shall be Witnesses UNTO Me.

In Hebraic thought, human consciousness comprises both a yetzer ha-ra and a yetzer ha-tov, an inclination for evil and an inclination for good. 

Together, these seem to define the meaning of being created in the image and likeness of God?  The human condition seems to exist in the tension between good and evil or, it could be said, between the tension of action on behalf of the self or on behalf of another.  Every human action is a result of this tension.

A well known example of choosing is found in Deuteronomy 30:19-20

Here, Moses seems to have reflected this essential tension in his request for a decision. 

I have called the heavens and the earth as witnesses today against you:  I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse.  Therefore you shall choose life, so that you live, both you and your seed, to love YHWH your Elohim, to obey His voice, and to cling to Him  . . 

Notice that he calls heaven and earth to be witnesses.

Moses’ appeal uses bahar in a verb tense that is active and complete, (qal is the perfect tense). 

That means that we do it, we are not to wait for God to somehow either choose for us, or force us to choose.  It is for us to decide and when we decide, the action is done, completed finished, terminated, comes to an end. 

It is accomplished/finished, was Jesus/Yeshua’s declaration that the choice is complete and an ongoing present tense.  This is how it must be for those who choose life. 

The ever present enemy is in the wavering, the hesitation of double-mindedness, as James referred to it when he shows the double-mindedness of embracing one point of the Ten Commandments while breaking another point of this law of love. Notice that the breaking of one point of the law is the same as breaking the whole law

(James 2:10-11)  For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Every person seems to have two heads. Humanity seems to be a world comprised of two-headed people. James called this double-mindedness. At times we think and act one way, and at other times we think and act another way; uncertainty and insincerity in the emotions and the mind lead to doubt, skepticism and fickleness where loyalty is divided. 

God’s Word says that a double-minded man is unstable in all he does. (James 1:8)

No wonder old habits seem to hang on indefinitely in the life of a double-minded believer. Those old habits are simply the fruit of an unstable heart and mind.

When we reconsider over and over, it is not choice, but rather it is the failure to choose, and that failure has eternal consequences.   Every human being has essential tension within them, animals do not have this, so if we don’t feel the tension in our lives, we may should examine ourselves?

Do we need to rethink our ideas of election, salvation, deliverance, predestination and sovereignty? Maybe we need to re-read John 9 and pay closer attention to the Messiah’s claim that the blind man’s condition was for a purpose, not a consequence.

Perhaps we are chosen because God has a purpose in mind. It appears that His choices are always based on His purposes; and the roles that each of us play, are determined by us choosing to fulfill that purpose.

bāḥar is at the heart of the Kingdom of the heavens. It is the word of divine sovereignty made evident in the lives of its’ citizens. Today is the day of His choosing us it is up to us to live accordingly.

Moses makes it clear that we cannot opt out without a risk to our humanity.  We cannot sidestep the focal point of choosing without becoming someone controlled by mere animal-like instinct. 

The essential part of being human is to continually decide between good and evil.  Until we are no longer in this earthly realm there is no time off, no break from being human, only then all choosing will end.

The choices we make not only define us, it is probably one of the most powerful forces God created and placed in the earth. Because He did so, it makes the ability to choose a most important characteristic of our humanity. 

The verb bahar is an ideal verb to describe being human.  We are the sum of our choices and are where we are at any given point as a result of those choices, we exist in the interconnecting of those decisions. 

Each and every choice we, or those which others make that affects us, results in a repositioning of our direction, so in a WAY we are always at the CROSSroads.  A life of choosing obedience and going consistently in the same direction, is a life well-lived.

We are called to

follow Him along the narrow WAY’.

Is Proverbs 3.5 a choice? Trust in the LORD with all your heart.. It would seem that absolutely it is; and in whom are we to trust? The ONE who made it all, the ONE who formed and fashioned us when we were inside the womb.

The ONE who knows the end from the beginning, and the ONE who was crucified and made His choice to die in agony and shed His blood upon the tslav, the cross that we might have life and have it abundantly! (John 10.10; referring to things of the Spirit. )

As the days draw closer to His return, we need to draw ever closer to the one who died for us; through whose sacrificial death we are reunited with our heavenly Father and are forgiven of all that would separate us from His presence.

We are redeemed from a hopeless future.

The soft and comfortable messages will only soothe our emotions and make us feel good for a while. We need the truth of His Word spoken in love to keep us straight on the narrow Way which promises  to bring us into life everlasting.

Let’s press in and become the ED עֵד ayd (eye-ed) witness choosing His Truth.

So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendents. Deuteronomy 30:19

Choose this day and choose Him- who is the Living Word of God.

Saved or not, please don’t leave this page without making a choice, for every choice is followed by what? A consequence. Good choices? – good consequences and the opposite is also true.

Swords, Mountains and Gardens

Connecting some more dots with some of the places and things mentioned in the last few posts.… with God there is always more and this post takes a look at a link to the Mishkan, Gardens and Sukkot.

The wilderness camp was at the base of Mount Sinai.

Mount Sinai was also called mount Horeb, the word Horeb is linked to the word HEREV which means sword.

(Hebrew: חרב ‎, Sword) (Remembering that b and v are the same letter bet/vet.)

From charab; drought; also a cutting instrument (from its destructive effect), as a knife, sword, or other sharp implement — axe, dagger, knife, mattock, sword, tool.

This is interesting and significant on several levels, as here was where God cut the covenant between Himself and the children of Israel so it could also be called the mountain of the cutting.

Strong’s Hebrew: 2719.

חָ֫רֶב (chereb) — a sword

In Genesis we read that God

“drove the man out of Eden and stationed east of the garden of Eden the cherubim and the fiery ever-turning sword, to guard the way to the tree of life”

 (See last post for more on Eden.)

SWORD OF God = cherev shel hashem 

The Hebrew word for sword is Charev or Harev with the start of it being just like the word Hanukkah sometimes spelled Chanukah.

As noted, the Hebrew word for sword is Charev or Herev/Harev – חרב

The pictograph for Zayin looks like a sword, a weapon; the classical Hebrew script is constructed of a Vav with a large “crown” on its head.

There is a Mystery in the Zayin as it is considered a “crowned” Vav and just as Vav represents “yashar,” which is ‘straight light from God to man’, so Zayin reflects the (or chozer), of the vav as the ‘or chozer/ returning light.’

Think for a moment of other places where a crown is mentioned in scripture and what the symbol of the vav is…

Zayin (also spelled zain or zayn or simply zay) is the seventh letter of the Semitic abjads, including Phoenician Zayin , Hebrew ‘Zayin ז, Yiddish Zoyen ז, Aramaic Zain ,

Thought to mean Glowing/Heat, Mount Horeb is one of two names given to a mountain mentioned in the book of Deuteronomy as the site where God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses.

The second name of Horeb in Exodus is, the Mountain of God/the Mountain of YHVH.

Mount Horeb, Hebrew: חֹרֵב,

Greek in the Septuagint: χωρηβ,

Latin in the Vulgate: Horeb.

Mountain in paleo is: har

Hey – Resh

Meaning: behold the head above the rest.

Mt. Horeb – Most likely synonymous with Sinai, was the scene of the burning bush,

of the giving of the Law, and of Elijah’s vision. 

We saw the first time the word HEREV is used Genesis was when God places the cherubim at the entrance to the Garden of Eden with the flaming swords, or Herev, because

the Herev is a sword raised up against sin!

And is familiar to us as being symbolic of the Word of God in Ephesians 6:17 and Hebrews 4:11

At the fall from Grace

They were removed from the Garden of life

after accessing a tree and

causing sin to reign

God took man out

of a garden of life

and they died spiritually

(broken relationship/separation from The Father.)

The day sin was put to death

the opposite occurred:

man took God down from a tree/wooden cross,

and placed Him in a garden of death,

the garden tomb

where He was resurrected into LIFE

and restored the broken relationship

with the Father having experienced the separation from Him.

In the Song of Solomon, there is another garden we read:

blow upon my Garden that the spices may flow.

Spices permeate the beautiful story, the Song of Solomon; Shir Hashirim, is the equally pleasant presence of the fragrance of spices.

Without the spices mentioned in this book of love between the Messiah and His Bride Israel, one could hardly imagine the prophesied marriage, or the communion of believers with their God.  Spices seem to be referring to the ascent to the heights of Israel and also pointing to enraptured heights of being in the presence of the Lord and Savior.   

The spices are found in the presence of both Bride and Bridegroom, and in the ‘garden enclosed’—representing a virtual garden of each delicate and holy spice.  

Most of the spices mentioned are the spices of the Tabernacle, the use and purpose of each spice commanded by God to Moses and Israel, and pointing to the pleasant, beautiful realm of Heaven and the throne/presence of God.  

A deeper look at each spice, shows not only the symbolic value of each substance, but the nature of the spices; which in turn point to Messiah and His suffering. (not included in this post).

This should be our prayer..

Breathe upon us with Your Spirit/Ruach wind and stir up the sweet spices of Your life/chaim within us. Spare nothing as You make us Your fruitful gardens and hold nothing back until we release Your fragrance. Come walk with us as You walked with Adam in Your Eden garden and taste the fruits of Your life in us.

When Solomon talked of his beloved feeding the garden and gathering lilies it indicates that, the Lord keeps on feeding and strengthening those who are maturing spiritually; while gathering to Himself, those who are away from His word and still need to know Him.

So man placed God in a garden of death and laid on Him spices, which also came from a garden.

In the Song of Solomon reference to the bride, (us), is also made.

Note the crown!

Let my beloved come into His garden.

The tomb of God is a Garden tomb.

Meaning it is not just a place of death and ending… it is a garden

the place of life

where things sprout and grow.

The place of new beginnings

that place 

Ha Makem’- ‘The Place’- המקום

of life/lives

Chaim.

All life now comes out of death.

We all must die in order to live.

Really, we should rejoice to enter His tomb..

to let the old man die

then we will find true new life.

And we are to raise another sword/herev,

the Word of God, the Sword of the Spirit.

As the law, is the instructions for life to be lived righteously, was given on the

Mountain of the sword/Horeb/Herev.

Or :

the mountain (behold the head above the rest) of HisWord.

This instruction was as a sword to be raised up against sin.

Not only corporately but at an individual level in life. We must use that sword against sin, which is, whatever does not line up with the Word of God. Use it to cut away (zayin) and circumcise our hearts putting every sin to death and driving out of the garden of our heart where sin will choke His-word .

The meaning of the letter bet also seen in the temporary house of Sukkot/Tabernacles ….. a place of safety and protection.

Coming from the ancient Hebrew prayer, which is called the hashkiveinu, and it describes an usual picture asking for:

His tabernacle to be spread over them.

Hashkiveinu is the second blessing following the Shema during Maariv.

It is a petitionary prayer to be able to lie down in peace/shalom at night and to return to life the following day.

Like a continual resurrection to life, where His Mercies are new every morning!

The prayer envisions God as a guide and shelter during the night ahead and praises God for watching over us, delivering us, and being merciful.

Here we ask God’s protection from the terrors of night “in the shadow of Your wings”- i.e., like the shelter that a mother bird gives to her young

Psalm 91:4 You will cover us with Your pinions, and under Your wings shall we take refuge.

This word is requesting, (actually commanding), God to make us lie down. We lie and down sleep as an act of surrender to God’s will that we sleep.

Hashkiveinu (hash-kee-VAY-noo), is one of the most beloved prayers of the evening service. It goes back to ancient times, when sleep was poorly understood.

Revelation 7:9… is the vision of the multitude standing before the throne in white robes holding palm branches…

which is what they held at the feast of tabernacles, or sukkot.

verse 15 says he who sits on the throne will spread his tabernacle over them.

The same unusual picture and the same words as the prayer.

God wants His people to dwell under His Sukkah, His BET/house/tent/His tabernacle, the place of his peace/ the Tabernacle of His shalom.

A Sukkah can be built anywhere. The one in the wilderness was mobile, so where ever we are, we can ask Him to spread over us the tabernacle of His shalom; which means we can live in, and under, that place of peace which includes grace and mercy.

The secret place of his tent is the now the Garden of our heart.

A pavilion is a safe shelter, here His Tent often referred to as the Tabernacle of David. The place of our hiding.

For in the time of trouble He will hide me in His pavilion He will hide me in the secret place of His Tent.

This is connected to Rev 7:9 and Tabernacles Sukkot Revelation 7:15

Revelation 7:15 New American Standard Bible (NASB) 15 For this reason, they are before the throne of God; and they serve Him day and night in His temple; and He who sits on the throne will spread His tabernacle over them. Revelation 7:15 (Or sanctuary.)

This Greek word, sk’enos, means ‘tabernacle, booth, shelter, or covering’ and also appears in Rev. 21:3.

This same word, sk’enos, is used to speak of Jesus/Yeshua during His first coming, (John 1:14).

Here we can see the protection provided in Rev. 7:16, corresponding to Isa. 4:5-6, and the fountain of living waters in Rev. 7:17 and 21:4.

For this reason, they are [standing] before the throne of God; and they serve Him [in worship] day and night in His temple; and He who sits on the throne will spread His tabernacle over them and shelter and protect them [with His presence].

The poreketh as the vail of the Old Testament is misleading when applied to katapetasma in the New Testament. There are two katapetasma’s in the Holy places. There are two masak’s in the Holy places. There is only one poreketh. (see diagram below).

The way back between the cherubim is through the curtain, upon which the cherubim were represented visually. This curtain was hanging between the holy of holy’s and the inner Court. It was torn from top to bottom at the time of Messiah’s death as He torn for us.

Sin is dealt with in the court where the Bronze altar and bronze laver were and the sacrifice was made..

we can now enter in sinless because of the blood of Messiah that is already on the Mercy seat between the cherubim/The kapporet.

We can enter in to His presence, His ruach hakodesh, His Holy Spirit as the wind/ breath of His presence; blowing the sweet fragrance of spices from His Garden. And with His presence filling the house (our bodies), the temple, the inner sanctuary, not the outer court or the inner court of the temple; but the Holy of Holies. (Jesus/Yeshua in the tabernacle); the sanctuary, which is the body in which we live.

The temple is the whole plan in a structure, where Gentiles/ heathen were welcome in the outer court; so it’s precise that we are the sanctuary of the Lord – His inner place of glory, ha makem of the Shekinah presence.

Ha Makem’- ‘The Place’-המקום

Psalm 27:5 is the pavilion, the safe shelter, the secret place of His tent.

Tent as in Mishkan, and Sukkot booths or tents; (temporary residence, also symbolic of the fact our bodies are temporary residences while here on earth.)

The fulfillment of Sukkot will be when He tabernacles with men forever.

The links to the Mishkan/Tabernacle, 3 Gardens and Sukkot, together with the Herev of The Lord, seems undeniable. Messiah Jesus/Yeshua is in everything we just have to know where to look!

It is only by passing through the

sword of the cherubim in Messiah,

the Word of God made flesh,

that we can enter the Garden

and the life of grace

that contains all the blessings

within the shalom of Messiah.

This is the WAY (back) as if we are accessing EDEN passing through the cherubim and the flaming sword/Herev.

The hope of His calling us, the sukkah of His shalom, the hashkiveinu (spread over us the tabernacle of your peace)…

Back To The Future Past? Part 2 ..plus.. Who Was Eating Bread On Day 6?

Continuing from part 1 … now a look at the original definition of the English word

Grace.

Elegance or beauty of form, manner, motion or action.

Mercy; clemency; pardon

While these definitions do apply to the Hebrew word חן chen, (hhen), they do not completely convey the full emotion and spectrum of the Hebrew word. This is the problem with translating Hebrew into English. The English vocabulary is limited in how it can express the full meaning of a given Hebrew word.

Grace as unmerited favor.

This was also manifest in Eden.

What does the English word grace means outside of theological reference?

The dictionary provides two basic definitions for grace, first:

Elegance or beauty of form, manner, motion or action.

Secondly: Mercy, clemency; pardon.

Because the Hebrew language is vastly different from English, we need to examine the Hebrew meaning of this word to see if one or both English definitions are appropriate definitions for the Hebrew word translated as grace.

Remembering they lived/existed in a state of continual grace before they fell from grace.

And that carries the meaning:

God produces life in us and then puts a fence or wall of protection around that life so that it may not be destroyed or removed.

This is in fact what He did at creation.

The Hebrew word has to do with freely giving without condition or obligation. 

The act of giving grace reveals 2 things, first: a need (like Adam suddenly found he had!). Those in receipt of grace are usually unable to provide the need themselves; so it’s received from another freely, one who can provide and meet the need.

Secondly, it reveals generosity on the part of the one giving, whether out of the individuals abundance or out of what little they have. The supreme act of grace and giving that God extended to humanity can be seen in the acrostics:

which helps us to remember what the definition is, no doubt there are many more than 3.

Now let’s look at Grace with the pictographs again to refresh our memory.

Remember the shape of the letter for Noon or Nun/Nuun, changes over time that is why sometimes it looks different in the illustrations and Hebrew letter  ן
is the Noon sofeet
/sofit which is how you write the letter for N, Noon at the end of a word; as shown here in Grace/Chen; and why so many pictures are included so we don’t get too confused.

There are 22 letters in the Hebrew Aleph-bet. 5 have a sofeet/sofit form (used when the letter appears at the end of a word).

Noon – a seed of life and later a fish = activity and life, continue or air.

Chet – private place of refuge, fenced and protected sanctuary. To separate from outside or protect life – beauty or loveliness. (again sounds like Eden – paradise.)

Eden had to be chet because outside of the garden God planted was not a place of chet/chen or where chen was available. (Not yet anyway!)

Chet as connected to the Mishkan – His Kingdom, qodesh/holy/set apart, according to His Pattern, and His instruction.

The Pattern of the Mishkan is our straight path our narrow WAY/Derek. Our refuge is in Him, walking through the Dalet/Door of Blue Purple and Red.

Chet = 8 carries the meaning eternity, new creation, new birth, new beginning.

Nun/noon = 50 signifies Holy Spirit Pentecost Deliverance followed by rest and Jubilee. (again this sounds a lot like our future as well as the believers life right now.)

The revelation embedded in the value of these numbers is:

8 = the new birth that God graciously initiates in every believer.

50 = delivers us from the bondage of sin and by God’s Holy Spirit produces eternal life.

Again a verse so over read that we miss its deep significance.

Eph 2:8-9 for by CHEN are we saved …..it is the gift of God.

Grace given freely without conditions or obligation by the giver. Gods grace is extended freely to fallen sinful man. Giving back what he lost in Eden.

Grace/Chen is

first seen in Genesis 6:8

Bet /Beyt: house tent family son of God – tent house

Reysh/Resh: a person the prince the head the highest – Head

Aleph: strong leader, first, God the Father –Ox

Sheen/Shin: to consume, to destroy, to press against – Teeth

Yood/Yud: work, a deed, to make – Hand

Tav: to seal, to covenant, a sign, crossed sticks –Cross.

The meaning of the very first word,

In The Beginning,

also the title of the first Book,

contains within it the whole of Hisstory and prophetically declares the plan of redemption!

The Son of God destroys (the works of the devil) by (His) hand (nailed to) a cross (by) covenant.

Or the son of God pressed by his own hand to a cross! Wow!

Now to Genesis 6:8

But Noah found grace.

quiet — rest(-ed, -ing place)

Here also have to include the progression and possible meanings in the names of the following men in the Genesis 5 genealogy, as their meanings appear to declare the Truth.

(May aid in reading long lists of names elsewhere that apparently seemed to serve little purpose…not so!)

(Noah seems to be spelled both ways but for this post we’ll look at the נחַ Chet and noon/nun spelling.)

Chet is pictured as an inner room to separate a fence a sanctuary like a garden that is protected and away from any harm; (like EDEN!)

Nun/Noon is pictured as a fish which means life and activity.

Again the Meaning:

Same 2 letters make up his name which means RESTING,

or, in the paleo,

the heir separated from the outside..

as he was in the ark/box, he was given the ability to fence/save/enclose in his seed!

Pre Hebrew, (ivri-crossing over), Israelites and was in action form with Noah; so with the later definition of a camp it’s not just any camp; it is talking about Gods’ camp. The tents themselves formed a protective wall for those within. (The image comes to mind of circling the wagons, or soldiers standing with backs to each other, gives the same image of protecting that which is within.)

Beauty in the camp = a place of refuge was also for those not of the seed = leviticus 19:33,34, grace. If a stranger came to the camp, they saw its beauty and came to be saved. It was a place of refuge for them. When they did come in, they kept the rules of the house (of God) exactly the same as a seed had to. Egypt was a place of refuge for the Hebrews initially (Goshen).

Deut. 26:13

So a working definition of grace could be said to be brought into a protected place.

Unmerited favor is more of a Greek conceptual image, meaning something we don’t necessarily deserve.

Channah used in relation to those who would camp near the Tabernacle/Gods presence Num. 1:52; the ones seeking refuge.

Camping near to those we find beautiful.

This is not a new thing

God provides instruction for those He favors and we are protected through Yeshua/Jesus, so if we want to camp near God for His protection, and have Him consider us beautiful enough to protect; then we must receive His Grace, and that through Messiah.

Grace also has a space/time element to it, where we are to enter in to the place of protection however, it has an expiration date!

Just as in the days of Noah, there was a time for them to enter the ark of grace all but Noah and his family chose not to. And once the door closed their space time opportunity also closed, and there was not way back from their decision. The time to enter in is when the beauty of grace is still in operation making the narrow WAY available for whosoever will.

Chet, vav, nun = a pardon – when one enters a place of grace, it’s because we are being pardoned of an offense against the Lord or His children. If you don’t conform you will not be able to stay just as in Eden.

(they were put outside the camp).

It also has to do with the remnant of 8 with Noah in the ark/box, they received grace.

The door or the physical representation.

Open the door for the family to come indraw all men unto me –

into grace;

into the camp. Matt 24:37.

The place of grace is available for all today, just as prior to the flood; we enter the place of grace, (which at this time is with the family of believers who are the faithful remnant,) through the Word of God, the narrow gate or door. (Dalet, 4th Hebrew letter, that also represents the tribe of Judah and Messiah.) He said I am the …. Door and also He is the Word made flesh.

Those who don’t come in through the Gate/Door is a thief and a robber.

No one can come to the Father without coming into the camp into grace into Jesus/Yeshua and grace comes through and by Jesus/Yeshua.

So far we have seen that Eden was a protected place,

a camp of safety within the chen/grace

of God’s presence where

were in a

compassionate

racham-womb

of

So Who Was Eating Bread On Day Six and WHY? What’s the connection?

The Hebrew word for man is Adam

And he was created on the sixth day so the day of man was day six.

1 Corinthians 15:21,22

Luke 22:19, 39 – 46

Genesis 3:19

Jesus/Yeshua was also called the Son of Man.

Luke tells us the grace of God was on Jesus/Yeshua as a child, now we see that was not simple unmerited favor but this

Grace-chen also means

to fence, or protect life.

Here an interesting correlation is that

gimmel/gimel-noon/nun

gimmel – camel, lift up

nun/noon – life, seed

means:

To lift up life,

let it grow and flourish!!

And are there any other links to this connection?

If we examine the last days of Jesus/Yeshua, we can see that day six was the day that the crucifixion took place.

We need to remember the Hebrew Day begins at dusk on what is the evening of the same day to everyone else.

It was not a Jewish invention but God’s design from the beginning. Genesis the evening and the morning was the first day. The evening and the morning, evening always comes first, for God, darkness always gives way to the light.

The sixth day began at sundown, Sunset on our Thursday night before the crucifixion.

On the day Adam fell from grace, chen, he was basically told, you shall eat bread until you return to the ground. (Have to grow it provide for yourself.)

Adam was destined to work for his food/ bread in order to live and would do so until he died.

This was part of the curse from their disobedient behavior and resulting sin. It brought forth death, so in the curse, bread is linked to death!

All the more reason for Jesus/Yeshua to say.. I am the bread of life.

The sixth day began at sundown with the start of the Last Supper which was not a coincidence, it was an Appointed Time of the Lord – since Moses day.

This (Passover/Pesach – Last Supper)

had to take place on the day of Adam,

in fulfillment of God’s prophetic Plan which centers around His Annual cyclical Appointed Times.

It was the feast of bread, and more particularly the feast of unleavened bread. Leaven represented sin in the Bible.

This bread had no sin in it.

Remembering the first Adam was told you shall eat bread  – his bread was a result of sin.

Jesus/Yeshua was without sin.

And again said

I am the bread of life.

Sin has death.

Without sin there is only LIFE.

Jesus/Yeshua was also called the Last Adam. So as this sixth night began,

the start of the Hebrew day,

Messiah ate bread right in the face of death. Knowing He was about to die, due to sins out-working and its requirement.

The wages of sin is death.

When He lifted up the bread at the Last Supper Meal, He was doing it to join it to His death as in the curse of Adam when the bread was joined to death.

Jesus/Yeshua died on the day of creation because it was necessary in order to become a new creation and become the first born from the dead.

Furthermore He said

I am the bread of life

not the bread of death!

This is My body, broken for you take eat and remember.

He had said: I am the bread of heaven who ever eats of Me will not die. This is the curse destroyed… He broke the curse with His broken body… He said it is broken for you.

The passover zeroah

The mystery emblem was always present until He was revealed.

In the original language there was a secret hidden in the translation; within the question, to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

MI HE’EMIN LISHMU’ATEINU UZERO’A HASHEM AL-MI NIGLATAH?

It is in the word revealed.

In Hebrews this word is NIGLATAH.

It means to be taken captive, what it is saying is,

the Arm of the Lord will be taken captive.

The zeroah will be niglatah!

However here is a deeper connection.

It also means to be put to shame, disGRACEd grace removed (the safety fence, the womb of protection within the place of His presence.)

Which allowed Jesus/Yeshua to become niglatahtaken prisoner, put to shame, disGRACEd

Only by being DISgraceD could the process be completed!

Later after the meal, He went in Gan Shemanim

Gethsemane (Matt. 26:36–46).

Gethsemane is derived from two Hebrew words:

גת – gat/gath, which means “a place for pressing oil (or wine)” and  שָׁמְנָא- shemen/shemanim, from the root שמן (smn) which means “oils.”

Was this revelation some of what He was trying to communicate to Nicodemus???

To help avoid confusion:

All three were part of Adam’s curse which started in a garden.

Eden, where it all began and at the conclusion of the earthly life of the Son of Man,

He was also in a garden on the night of (Adams day) day six.

What happened to Adam on day six?

Because of the fall from Grace, he was removed from that place, the garden of God to a place outside that garden.

Outside of the place of grace,

he was no longer within and under grace… he was outside of the protected enclosure and instead was in the place of the curse which eventually resulted in his death.

God drove out the man

he was forcibly removed.

So too, Messiah, the Son of Man/ Last Adam was forcibly removed from the garden and taken to a place where the curse of Adam –death – would fall on him.

Gal.3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.

And He was taken to Golgotha the place of the skull and taken to His death.

All this began on the night of Adam, the six day, the day of man; so that the children of Adam could be redeemed from the curse and saved from toil of their lives by the Last Adam.

The law of sin and death is conquered and we are again under Grace as it was in the Beginning Genesis/Eden.

This extends our understanding of no longer being under the penalty of the law..

it is referring to the law of sin and death

(for the soul that sins it shall die)

the penalty has been paid.

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death.

And we are under GRACE;

this is the age/time of grace,

and we have been restored to that

place of grace

from which mankind fell.

The sixth day violation,

which began in a garden called Eden and ended in a curse;

has been reversed on the sixth day

in a garden called Gethsemane and ended in a blessing!

Mankind, (Adamkind), is now restored to that state of grace

in which we began.

Chen/Grace is the spiritual enclosure

He has provided for us

where we will remain until

the day He returns

and eventually creates a new heaven and a new.

This is redemption in action.

The 7th day recorded in Genesis was the day God rested from all the work He had done.

(The word rest, means something different to us, it’s like taking a break and putting our feet up before continuing activities.)

The word in Hebrew translated as rested is SHEVAT or shabath and it is a primary root meaning to cease.

Shin/sheen, bet/vet, tav.

To cease, stop completely.

He had finished His work it was complete.

So on the seventh day He ceased, SHEVAT because of this event this rest, this SHEVAT, comes the word Shabbat and from this we get our word Sabbath.

So the Sabbath is the Sabbath because God ceased/ SHEVAT. He rested and all its’ blessings come from the act of the SHEVAT of God. However because of the fall from grace, the peace, the shalom of the Sabbath rest and all the blessings connected with that rest/ SHEVAT were gone from the creation and from our lives.

So a new Sabbath was needed. However only God can bring the Sabbath and a Sabbath can only come when God ceases/ SHEVAT.(When He rests)

So for Him to bring a new Sabbath He would have to cease, and the timing of it would have to be linked to the 7th day…….

On a Friday afternoon 1,000’s of years later, on the end of the 6th day, the Day of Man,

this time it was not the week of creation but the week of redemption

and as it was in Genesis/beresheet the 6th day was the day of completion of all God’s creative work.

So also the work of the cross was completed and on the cross came SHEVAT of GodHe ceased and He said

it is finished.

It is complete, He ceased from His work and from His life. As it was in Genesis, God ceased/SHEVAT and then came the Sabbath

now there is a new Sabbath and a new Shalom,

not of this world but greater than this world and there for all who will enter in..

How do we enter in?

By ceasing, by SHEVAT,

by ceasing to strive and struggle, by ceasing from laboring, ceasing from our self, our own works… we are to enter His rest, His Shabbat and by doing so, we will experience His Shalom in the place of His Grace.

 

What we have seen in the paleo pictographs is that Grace and Eden and Shalom have much in common with each other

and with the redemption-salvation

that is gained through Grace.

It, the grace,

is to give us access

BACK into Eden

the place/state of grace

Restored back into the future of an enclosed garden of God, where His presence is manifested and there is no sin only shalom and rest.

The mercy seat is there, typified both in the Eden layout and in the wilderness camp, tabernacle/mishkan and later in the temple floor plan.

were both at Edens entrance and on the veil/curtain separating the Ark of God’s presence as He manifested upon the Mercy seat/Kapporet.

In an enclosed womb like shape where eternal life was accessed by the High Priest.

Remember: The tabernacle (mishkan mish-kawn’ מִשְׁכָּן), first mentioned in the Torah in Exodus 25, was the portable sanctuary that the Israelites carried with them in the wilderness.

Mishkan comes from the Hebrew root meaning “to dwell”; the tabernacle was considered to be the earthly dwelling place of God.

The portion of the tabernacle and the Temple building in front of the Holy of Holies which contained the inner altar, the table for the showbread, and the menorah.

They lived in a state of continual grace and shalom.

He had produced life in them and then put a fence or wall of protection around that life so that it may not be destroyed or removed.

This way back has been opened by our High Priest,

the curtain rent,

the cherubim parted and

access to the throne/presence of God

on the kapporet

is available once again

as the mercy seat

is covered in Messiahs blood

and we are redeemed.

His trial in the garden, fulfilled all the criteria for Gods plan of the ages.

This is the grace that has saved us

the same grace that they lived in in Genesis, is the grace we are to live in now..

as He said to Paul, it is sufficient..

it’s chen/grace

the place where

God provides protection and provision for life a camp a graceful place of healing strength salvation and rescue!

It’s the Shalom

(remember the definition of shalom)

HIS shalom, the same that was in the grace, the placeeden, the place,

the garden of God, that He gave to us,

Eden, to see the judge of life;

and we must do that to be saved;

a judge is the door to life.

Judge offers justice and redemption. Eden is a place, where you open the door and enter the pathway that leads to life.

It also includes Mercy; clemency; pardon mercy, the womb…racham

is The house that surrounds life.

In the Garden of Olives He crushed the head of the serpent and the tree of everlasting life was once again made available through Jesus/Yeshua.

The Garden of Eden was meant to be a place of continual life.

Chaim both physical and spiritual…

(recall IM as plural – lives.)

First Adam – Last Adam

each in a garden one

began in one and ended in one .

It was outside the camp.. but Jesus/Yeshua is the DOOR the WAY into GRACE restored. Eden restored where we enter His REST 

 which is now secured as that Shalom – peace, which only comes when the authority connected with chaos and confusion is destroyed, which is has been by the Sar Shalom, the Prince of Peace.

Eden restored, regained, by eating of Him who is NOT forbidden fruit

and we enter into HIS rest.

We enter into a racham/womb of Shalom where nothing is missing or broken and no good thing is withheld.

Yes it seems Eden is the place of grace/rest and shalom and both Adams are there, in the garden of God, waiting for us to join them in His presence passing by the cherubim and right up to the tree of life, and it seems we are indeed

going back to the future past...

It was the Son of Man –

the Last Adam

who was eating bread

on the 6th day.

In a WAY, He is not only the Last Adam but He is also Eden the DOOR/Dalet to eternal Life.

Grace was the physical expression of, and provision for, humanity.

His love is unconditional and came down from the heavens

the grace stooping towards us

the stronger coming to the help of the weaker who stands in need of help either by reason of their circumstances or natural weakness.

Being lost and fallen from grace definitely qualifies us!

Our love that goes up is our worship;

love that extends outward is affection but the love that bends and stoops down..that is GRACE.
