Baali or Ishi?

And it shall be in thay day saith the Lord that you shall call me ISHI my husband and shall call me no more BAALI my master.

Hosea 2:16

The name Hosea/Hoshea like Joshua/Y’hoshua

and Yeshua means

Salvation.

Hebrew: הוֹשֵׁעַ – Hōšēaʿ, ‘Salvation’;

If you have never read the book of Hosea, the content in a nutshell is a love story with a thorn in it. It’s the story of a faithful husband and an adulterous, unfaithful wife. The descriptions of the two main characters Hosea /Hoshea and Gomer, also describe the relationship between Yhvh/God and the children of Israel.

In Chapter 1:2, Hosea is given the most unlikely instructions one could ever imagine; he was told to go and marry a whore/prostitute and have children with her. Hoseas marriage becomes a symbol of God’s love for His adulterous children who were prostituting themselves with idols and foreign gods; worshipping them and committing spiritual adultery against the Living God Who had made covenant with them equal to sacred marriage vows. God commands Hoshea to take a wife who the Lord knows will prove to be unfaithful and adulterous.

Anyone reading this story, may feel this is unfair to Hosea, punishing him with a promiscuous marriage to the unfaithful Gomer. However, here Hosea is speaking on behalf of God and portrays God Himself in acting out this story of the continual/ongoing unfaithfulness and spiritual adultery by Israel. Gomer represents the Isrealites/Jewish people, who are so many times portrayed as God’s beloved wife. Jeremiah 2:3. We should think, if Gomers unfaithfulness is unfair, how much more is Israel’s and His childrens’ unfaithfulness unfair to God?

Gomer the wife of Hosea.

Gomer – Hebrew: גומר,

Original Word: גֹּמֶר.

Strongs 1586

Gomer means: complete

In Hosea 1:3 Gomer is called the Daughter of Diblaim. Diblaim is derived from the word develah meaning: fig-cake; since she was as sweet in everyone’s mouth as a fig-cake; or because everyone would tread on her as on a fig-cake. Gomer’s mother was also in the same profession and both were commonly the subject of slander and gossip. This led to another reference by the Rabbis, that the name Diblaim is a plural form of the word dibah which means: slander, ill repute: [a woman of] ill repute and the daughter of [a woman of] ill repute.

God commanded Hosea to marry Gomer, the daughter of Diblaim, as this was in order to teach him correct behavior for one who was to prophesy to Israel. Despite Gomer’s harlotry, the Rabbis interpret her story as proof that, even when God is angry with Israel, He still loves them.

After two sons, Jezreel and

Lo-ammi

and a daughter,

Lo-ruhamah

were born to Hosea and Gomer,

God ordered Hosea:You must part from Gomer. You should have learned from your teacher Moses, who parted from his wife because I revealed Myself to him. You, too, separate yourself from her.” Hosea began to weep and said to God: “Master of the Universe! I have children by her. I can neither send her away nor divorce her!” Since he answered Him thus, God said: “Hosea, why do you weep?” He replied: “I take pity on my wife and my children.” God said: “Your wife is a harlot, and your children are children begotten of harlotry, and you do not know if they are yours or from others; nevertheless, you took pity on them. And as for Me—Israel are My children, my beloved children, the seed of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Should I not have pity on them? Israel is one of the four possessions that I have acquired in this world [i.e., the Torah, heaven and earth, the Temple, and Israel], and you tell me to replace them with another nation?!”

Hearing this, Hosea realized that he had sinned and was about to ask for Divine mercy for himself. God told him:

“Hosea, Hosea, three [heavenly] decrees were issued against Israel because of you. Instead of asking for mercy for yourself, ask for mercy for Israel.”

Hosea stood and prayed on behalf of Israel, God then annulled the three decrees and Hosea gave them three blessings:

The number of the people of Israel shall be like that of the sand of the sea” Hos. 2:1;

“instead of being told, ‘You are Not-My-People,’ they shall be called ‘Children-of-the-Living-God’” Hos. 1:10

“I will sow her in the land as My own; and I will have compassion on her who has not received compassion; and I will say to those who are not My people, ‘You are My people’” Hos. 2:23

Another tradition relates that for every affliction that Hosea prophesied for Israel, he gave them a remedy.

After telling Israel “I will no longer pardon the House of Israel” (Hos. 1:6),

the prophet promises “I will have compassion on her who has not received compassion.”

After having told the Israelites “For you are not My people” (Hos. 1:9),

the prophet assures them “I will say to those who are not My people, ‘You are My people’” (Hos. 2:25). The mouth that uttered “For she is not my wife” (Hos. 2:4) recanted and amended “You will call [Me] Ishi [husband]” (Hos. 2:18).

Even when God is provoked by Israel, He still loves them. Hosea learns this himself when he realizes that Gomer’s harlotry does not prevent him from being attached to her.

This shows us that Hosea was emotionally attached to Gomer and felt obligated to her. God tested and tried him when He told him to part from her and her children, but He did not intend this to be fulfilled. Rather, Hosea was to learn from the husband and wife relationship the emotions of love, compassion, and commitment that a prophet must feel for his people.

We sometimes overlook the significance of the given names in scripture and on occasion the children of prophets give a prophetic indication of God’s plans. For example: the names given by God to Hosea/Hoshea. He had 2 sons and 1 daughter with Gomer

1:4 call him Yizre’el/Jezreel

which means:

scattering, especially about seeds and is the same name as the valley near Megiddo that has been a famous battleground all through history and is the site of the final battle, we are familiar with as Armageddon. This is also pointing strongly to the future of the Northern kingdom and meaning that they will literally be scattered.

The 2 other children, one called

Lo Ruchamah/Lo Ruhama,

meaning: not loved, not received compassion or unpitied.

The other was named

Lo Ammi

meaning: not my people,

which in Hosea’s lifetime is the status of the Northern Kingdom.

Back to meaning of Baali or Ishi?

Baali – Bet Ayin Lamed Yod – my master

From the verb בעל  ba’al, to be master, owner or lord.

בעלי

means: to exercise dominion over.

The name Baali isn’t really a name and very few of the original readers and hearers of the Book of Hosea would have thought it was. It is more commonly understood to be a reference to idols or false gods of demonic origin.

Baʻal in Hebrew: בַּעַל baʿal, was as already noted, a title meaning owner, lord in the Northwest Semitic languages spoken in the Levant in those days. The word baal means lord; the plural is baalim. In general, Baal was a fertility god who was believed to enable the earth to produce crops and people to produce children.

Baal or Baali also means the Bull, the Golden Calf and was the god worshipped in many ancient Middle Eastern communities, especially among the Canaanites and Phoenicians they believed it was a deity and the son of the chief god El. In artistic depictions and archeological finds, Baal took the shape of a bull or ram. This was the same golden calf at Sinai incident.

Also in 1Kings 18:29 Elijah said to the prophets of Baal,

“Choose one of the bulls and prepare it first, since there are so many of you. Call on the name of your god.

Jeremiah 14:5 The people of Judah stopped worshiping me and made this valley into a place of worship for Baal and other gods that have never helped them or their ancestors or their kings.

They built high places for Baal in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to sacrifice their sons and daughters to Molek,

Jeremiah 32:35

BAALI. ba’-a-li ba`ali, my master

Baal, a common name for all heathen gods, had in common practice been used also of Yahweh.

The name Baali occurs in Hosea 2:16, where the Lord promises that when Israel is restored, that is, when every person’s knowledge of nature is complete, correct and understood; and the people will no longer call the

Creator My Master/ Baali,

but rather

My Husband -Ishi.

The word comes from

איש  ‘ish, man or husband.

There’s only a small difference between the words אישי ishi and בעלי ba’ali as both are used to mean my husband.

Ishi is an expression of marital relationship and young love. The word ishi can simply mean my man, which may denote one’s equal, a husband or a man one has employed.

The word baali is more an authoritative title; is an expression of lordship and fear.

it may also mean: my master or my lord.

Hosea 2:16 reveals that at this point in their relationship, Gomer is calling him Baali /my master because whatever she is doing for him is out of obligation, duty and fear. It seems that Baali is the most common word used in Hebrew and Aramaic for husband. This is because in those times most cultures considered that a husband was a master to whom women were forced to be totally submissive, or would face physical punishment or even death for disobedience to their baali/abusive husband. Sadly this is still the case in some Middle Eastern and Asian countries and no doubt has had an influence on the western cultures; who still exert dominance and suppress womens freedoms. Before being influenced by pagan cultures however, the Hebrew children of Israel were known for their fair and equal treatment of women. It is because of this there are the 2 words for husband. As noted, the one is baali that is referring to the husband who is an abusive master figure and the other, Ishi.. The word Ishi can be applied to many relationship types, for example, like a friend, a helper or a companion. Whereas a baali, and uses of the word, all indicate very negative meanings.

Ishi is used in a very positive way because an

Ishi husband is one who loves his wife,

cares for and cherishes her.

On the other hand,

a baali husband

only sees his wife as someone or something, more as a possession; an object who is there to serve him like a slave and meet his needs in every way he wants.

Hosea was speaking God’s words to His people. The prophets’ ministry is just that, hearing from God, taking the message of God to His people, not the prophet’s own message. The priest on the other hand, heard from the people and took the peoples words and offerings and ministered them to the Lord.

The children of Israel saw God as a baali, a master who had to be served in case they suffered severe consequences. It may help us to read this passage of scripture and to see that like Hosea, our Heavenly Father Creator God is pleading for His bride to allow Him to be an Ishi, to be able to show His affection, His love and His caring protection. Gomer could not see the love Hosea had for he because she was so wrapped up in her own guilt, her adultery and promiscuity to believe that Hosea could forgive her and overlook all that she had done.

This raises the questions:

What is God to us?

How do we see him and how do we relate to Him?

Is He a Baali or an Ishi to us?

Do we think of Him as an unfair, abusive, baali husband, demanding that we follow every letter of his laws and rules; living in fear that he will punish us severely and even send us to hell without any mercy grace or loving-kindness?

Are we so deeply wrapped up in guilt over our past sins, our failures and even fear of sinning/falling into sin and being punished; that we don’t see His forgiveness and the power of His unconditional love and tender mercies that are new every morning? Lamentations 22:23

He is the Ishi, the One Who wants to love us, to forgive us and pour out His care, provision and protection.

In Hosea 2:18 Adonai will not continue to discipline Israel forever but he will renew His vows to her and in verse 20, there is a future of promise for the people once again. Hosea is told in chapter 3:1 show love to this wife of yours. Hosea’s relationship with Gomer is once again compared to God’s relationship with the northern kingdom. In speaking of Gomers unfaithfulness, it’s noted by the Rabbis that Hosea cherished Gomer, yet she broke covenant with him by committing adultery under his domain. In this passage the love that the Lord God has for the nation of Israel is given freely but she too strayed from under the Lord’s domain, prostituting themselves with foreign gods whom they did not know.

Chapter 6:2 is seen as predicting Messiahs death and resurrection and verse 6 is an echo of Ps 51:16 which was quoted by Messiah in Matthew 9:13, 12:7.

Our God desires that the relationship between a husband and wife to be that of a partnership, not one of dominance and mastery. And in the Tanach/old testament, the relationship between God and the Jewish people is often compared, to the relationship between a husband and wife.

In Hoshea 2:18-19 We read: “It shall be on that day — the word of God — you will say ‘ishi’ (my Husband) and you will no longer say ‘baali’ (my Master).

An interesting fact is that in 1953, David Ben Gurion wrote a letter stating that on government documents and forms the word “ishi” should be used, as opposed to the word “baali,” since “baali” conjures up images of the husband being the master as well as a god of idol worship and does not show respect for women. Ben Gurion then quoted that verse from Hoshea to prove his point.

David Ben Gurion took the Tanach and Biblical Hebrew seriously. Today, unfortunately, many Israelis are not as well educated in Biblical Hebrew and are only familiar with Modern and Spoken Hebrew.

If more women used the word “ishi” to describe their husbands, the word might eventually become standard. From looking at scripture it seems is clear that “ishi” is the word that God prefers.

Some things that we can learn from this story:

Sin leads to confusion, forgetfulness, and destruction.

Personal and private sin does not stay personal or private for very long.

God is faithful even when we are not.

Only God can redeem and restore; and like Hosea, God was willing to go to extreme lengths to do just that. He used his own marriage to an adulterous wife, to symbolize God’s love for his people

It shows God’s love and mercy for Israel and Judah, who have strayed from Him, and the unlimited forgiveness and redemption available to those who will return to Him.

Gomer was not a born-and-raised, dedicated follower of God: she was a prostitute. This fact speaks volumes about the people God chooses and the enormous depth of His love for us! God commanded Hosea to ‘Go, marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her.’ In a culture which shunned such women, and valued a respectable marriage as a measure of a man’s success. This must have made Hosea wonder, but he trusted in God, and because of his faith, Gomer was given the one thing she never thought she deserved: a loving, holy husband and a new start in life.

However, she messed up and in Hosea 3:1 we are told that she ‘is loved by another man and is an adulteress’ She couldn’t completely give up her old life, and maybe the sense of being unworthy of her new life pulled her back into old habits.

Regardless of this weakness to fall into sin, God commanded Hosea to ‘love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to another god.’ Hosea 3:1. In other words, Hosea forgave her sin against him and accepted her just as she was.

The three very encouraging things we can take from this are:

First, that God will NEVER give up on us!

According to Matthew 18:22; He will forgive us more than ‘70×7’ times for our shortfalls and His love will remain unfailing throughout. There’s nothing we have done or will ever do that will shock our ishi, because as creator of the universe there is nothing that He has not seen or does not know. No matter how far we stray from the path He set out for us, there is always a way back; and when we do return, just like the prodigal son, He will be there waiting for us as if we never left.

Secondly as Gomer found out, even the best man in the world, one who could bring happiness and give meaning and satisfaction to our lives, should not take the place of Messiah. These days, so much emphasis is placed on the search for the perfect husband and/or wife, and it can be become more important than our desire for a deeper relationship with Messiah. The truth is, that true satisfaction cannot be found anywhere else but in the Blood of Jesus/Yeshua; because that alone leads us to eternal life with our Father in Heaven. A man or woman who is sent by God will enhance the life you already have, but no one can give what Messiah Jesus can. He must be first in our lives, then we can know the fulfillment and worth that our hearts long for.

Lastly in the story of Gomer we see revealed the deep emotional healing and total redemption that only a loving ishi can provide. Falling into sin does not mean that a person is tainted forever, because by turning to Jesus/Yeshua as with any sin repented of, His Blood cleanses us. Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us.

As with any sin, if we turn to Jesus/Yeshua and repent, He will remove it completely and it will be as if it had never happened.

This is how much our Ishi loves us and is always calling us back to Him, and He wants us to live the abundant life He has provided free from guilt and shame. Just as Gomer returned to Hosea, we can return to Messiah, our Ishi.

The essential aspect of this story is for us to realize that God loves us so very much and longs for us to turn to Him and want to be with Him, just as the loving relationship between a husband and wife. No matter what we have done there is forgiveness. There is no guilt, grief, or shame that cannot be removed by the love God showed in sending His Son who shed His Blood so that all sin can be wiped away completely and forever. If we say that God cannot forgive us, we are denying His Almightiness and if we say we cannot forgive ourselves; or the shame is too deep, we are denying the power in the sacrificial Blood of Messiah.

Don’t allow the enemy to make you believe you are beyond redemption because when we turn to the Lord in humility and trust, He will not turn us away.

We do not comprehend nor understand the depth of the love of the Creator of the Universe but that is no reason to reject His merciful grace. You can be free today right now all guilt and shame removed forever. Your worth in God’s eyes has never decreased, and will remain the same as it ever was. Like Gomer returned to Hosea, you can return to God.

Days of Noah vs. Lot & Today.

Solomon had great wisdom and insight he said :

Everything that happens has happened before;

nothing is new,

nothing under the sun.

In Ecclesiastes 1:9-11 he wrote:

The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. 10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.

Taking this together with what Messiah Yeshua/Jesus told us confirming this fact in Matthew 24 and Luke 17:26—37 And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27 They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark…. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; 29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom.

Yeshua/Jesus said that the days of Noah and Lot would be like the days just prior to His return and the establishment of His Kingdom.

We hear this referred to many times and even more lately in light of recent events… wars and rumors of wars…

And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.

Matthew 24:6-8

This certainly sounds like things that are happening right now….

Maybe we should take another look at what the days of Noah and those of Lot were really like and compare them? It may give us more of an indication if our days are similar to theirs.

We are told that most people will be going about their normal activities, unaware of the times. When He returns, society will be degenerate and wicked, just as it was before the Flood came.

In the days of Noah and the days of Lot, only one family was protected. Yeshua/Jesus compared both to the End Times, so the same will be true just before His return.

And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him at His heart.

The Hebrew phrase,

acharit ha-yamim – אַחֲרִית הַיָּמִים

often translated,

“latter days”

refers to the “end of days, or “last days”,

mentioned in both the Old and New Testaments, and points to a critical period late in human history.

The Greek phrase “in the last days”

ἐν ἐσχάταις ἡμέραις

also refers to the prophesied “End of Days,”.

Strong’s Hebrew: 319.

אַחֲרִית (acharith)

— the after-part, end

The Lord God told Noah and Abraham for Lot, that judgement was at hand. Yeshua/Jesus was telling us that it will be the same just before His return.

Here are some similarities and differences between the two events, as we read them, how many are in evident in the world today?

In the days of Noah wickedness was universal.

In Lots’ days wickedness was universal and we read of the five cities that God destroyed.

The events before the destruction, Noah built the ark and preached righteousness not allowing the wickedness to affect his family.

Whereas Lot moved into the wicked city of Sodom and the evil of the city vexed his righteous soul. Lot offered to give his daughters to the wicked men of the city.

God Himself brought the judgment on the wicked. Genesis 6:13.

God Himself brought the judgment on the wicked. Genesis 19:23.

Noah saw the violence that existed during this time but no violence was committed against him.

Lot saw the violence that existed during his time and experienced violence against him from the homosexual men of Gomorrah.

Regarding Family: Noah’s sons married wives who became righteous removing themselves from the wicked society.

Lots daughters were betrothed to wicked men these men were destroyed in the wicked society.

Noah and his sons and their wives were in unity in their beliefs and their work on the ark. They stood together against those who were wicked in that generation.

Lot and his family had no family unity. His sons were not even in contact with him. His daughters were influenced by the wickedness of Sodom and his wife turned back and was destroyed.

The judgment in Noah’s time lasted many days. Genesis 1:11, 8:14.

The judgment and lots times lasted only part of the day. Genesis 19:23-27.

The judgment of the flood even included the highest mountains.

The judgment on Lot’s time was only in the valleys.

Noah brought living animals out of the judgment.

No animals were saved in the location of the judgment in Lots time.

God caused His Spirit to pass over the waters to cause the waters to subside. Genesis 8:1.

There is no mention of Spirit in the destruction in Lots time.

Noah did not know that judgment was over until God told him to leave the ark.

Lot did not know when the judgment was over and he feared that there was more to come so he fled to a cave even though judgment had ended.

Noah was not vexed by evil, he found grace in the eyes of God. Genesis 6:9. God said that Noah was a righteous man in the midst of an evil generation. It does not say that Noah was vexed by their unrighteous deeds. Righteousness is defined as keeping the Commandments of God in other words keeping Torah.

Lot was vexed by evil and apparently he had not told his family to keep the way of Torah according to 2Peter 2:8. He lived in Sodom one of the five cities that were destroyed.

Noah was told to gather food for himself and the animals.

Lot was not told to gather food.

Noah knew of the coming judgment he had been told by God that the earth was going to be destroyed by a flood 100 years before it happened. Genesis 6:13. After the ark was built, God told Noah that the flood was going to start in seven days. Genesis 7:4 There was no panic just simple obedience to God’s command.

Lot did not know of the coming judgment that God was going to bring on the city until the angels came to take them out of it. Abraham knew of the coming judgment because he commanded his children to follow the ways of God, however he interceded for the righteous in the cities that were to be destroyed.

Noah did all that God told him.

Lot argued with the angels about where he was to escape to. Genesis 19:18.

Noah and his sons worked for 100 years to prepare for the time of judgment.

Neither Lot nor his family worked to prepare for the coming judgment.

Noah was warned directly by God.

Angels brought the warning to Lot.

Noah was given specific plans

Lot was not given specific plans.

Noah was told that the judgment was on the whole world.

Lot was not told that the judgment was only on the five cities so he may have believed that it was on the whole world.

Noah was called a preacher of righteousness; and He preached repentance for 100 years to all who came to mock him for building the ark.

Lot had spoken little about righteousness as we can see by the reaction of those who wanted him to bring out the angels. Genesis 19:9.

As a preacher of righteousness, Noah and his family were known to be in opposition to the accepted way of life in his time, they did not fit in.

Lot and his family were well known in Sodom. Although he did not accept the life style of Sodom, he was not known to be in opposition to it until he objected his last night there. He also offered to give his daughters, something that Noah would have never done. Lot had lived in Sodom without affecting it for good. He and his family had fitted into life as usual there, he sat at the city gates which was a sign of a leader of the city. Genesis 19:1.

Sexual wickedness was rampant before the destruction, in the form of multiple wives one for pleasure and one for reproduction. This custom had started with Lamech and had progressed to rape and seduction. This was perpetrated by the sons of the rulers who took women by force, leaving children who never knew their father. When these children grew up they brought an increase in the violence in the world. Genesis 6:1-5.

Sexual wickedness before the destruction of Sodom had increased greatly in all the five cities. Homosexual men forced themselves on all strangers who had the misfortune to enter the city. Genesis 19:5.

Noah had a very close relationship with the Lord God and did not need anyone to intercede for him.

Lot may not have been saved if Abraham had did not interceded for him. Genesis 19:29.

The door was shut by God in Genesis 7:16.

The door was shut by angels in Genesis 19:10.

All of Noah’s family were saved because they obeyed God, however, none of the world was saved because they did not obey him. All of mankind are descendants of Noah and his sons after the flood.

Lot’s sons-in-law would not leave the city so they were destroyed. Lot’s wife disobeyed the angels instructions and she was destroyed. The men of the cities were destroyed because of their unrighteous deeds. Lot and his two daughters were saved by obeying although they did argue with the angels.

Conditions at the time of deliverance: Noah and his family walked onto the ark on the day the rain came. There was no panic or confusion, just obedience to God’s commands even though the earth was covered in violence/hamas.

With Lot and his family, there was panic and confusion and there was violence in the city of Sodom as well as in the other four cities.

Noah and his entire family including his daughters in law were taken into the Ark.

Lot and his family had to flee on foot, his sons in law would not leave the city and his wife looked back and they were destroyed.

Noah sent a raven and a dove to see if the waters were receding.

Lot and his daughters had no way to know if the judgment was over.

What was saved from the destruction? Noah saved all that he needed The Lord God told Noah to bring the animals on the Ark to save them. He had all that he needed to replenish after the flood was over.

Lot did not save anything. He was saved as someone who runs out of his burning house with nothing but clothes he was wearing. All his works were burned up.

For no one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.  Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work.… 1 Corinthians 3:12-13

The Lord God made a Covenant with Noah after the flood, to never again destroy the earth by water. He used the rainbow as a sign of the covenant. Genesis 8:20-22.

No covenant was made with Lot, however the Lord God did not make a covenant to never judge the earth by fire again.

After the destruction: Noah offered a sacrifice after the flood.

Lot was fearful of continuing destruction and fled to hide a cave.

Noah knew they were the only people left on earth and that they were to be fruitful and multiply.

Lots daughters believed that they were the last three people on the earth and could only repopulate the earth through incest with their father.

Noah and his sons were commanded to be fruitful and fill the earth and they did so. Genesis 9:1.

Lot and his daughters were not commanded to be fruitful and fill the earth but they did so in a sinful way.

God put the fear of man into all animals.

Lot and his daughters were fearful. Genesis 19:30.

Wine and sexual perversion after the destruction: Noah got drunk and was unaware of what took place. ‘His nakedness was seen by his son Ham.’

Lot got drunk and was unaware that his daughters had sexual relations with him.

God remembered Noah and caused the waters to subside.

Abraham, not Lot, was remembered by God and because of this, Lot was saved from the destruction of the fire. Genesis 19:29.

Dates are given for different stages of the judgment of the flood.

No date is given for the judgment by fire.

All mankind and all nations are descendants of Noah and his sons.

All of Lot’s descendants came through him and his daughters. Only the nations of Moab and Ammon, the two enemies of Israel came from Lot.

Honor and dishonor of their descendants: Noah’s descendants through Shem were men of honor whom the Lord God used; and this included Abraham, Isaac and Jacob together with Jacob’s 12 sons. God made a covenant with all of them. Some of Noah’s descendants through Ham were cursed; this included Amalek, who God said he would be at war with until the end of time.

Lot’s descendants were dishonored and were enemies of those under the Covenant. His descendants were born through incest with his own daughters , these are the people of Moab which means: ‘from father’. The other daughter named her son Benammi, which means: ‘son of my people.’ He became the father of the people of Ammon. This is the name of the capital of the nation of Jordan. Although Lot was related to Abraham, he did not follow in his ways.

The method of destruction: water destroyed the world in Noah’s day. Water is usually a substance that brings life because life cannot exist without it. The Lord God said He will never again destroy the Earth with a flood. Judgment came from the heavens and from the fountains of the deep.

Jude 1:7. “Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, of punishment.

Fire destroyed Sodom and the others cities in Lots’ day. Fire brings death and purification, the judgment came from the heavens. Genesis 19:23.We know that the destruction at the end of this age will be by fire. 2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

The extent of judgment: In Noah’s day, all animal life on the earth except what lived in the oceans and those on the Ark. Plant life recovered after the flood without any help from Noah or his family.

In Lot’s day, all life in the area of the five cities including plant life did not recover because the sulfur caused the soil to become too acidic, there is little that grows there even today.

In Noah’s day the wicked had no idea of the coming judgment, they were doing all the normal things of daily life.

In Lot’s day the wicked did not know of the coming judgment, they too were doing all the normal things of daily life.

In Noah’s day the wicked were taken out of the world and made examples for others who would want to live like them.

In Lot’s day the wicked were taken out of the world and made examples for others who would want to live like them.

Noah and his family were not taken out of the world.

Those who were delivered from Lot’s family were not taken out of the world.

In Noah’s day the judgment started in the daytime when the fountains of the deep burst forth. Genesis 7:11.

In Lot’s day the judgment started in the evening when the angels came, but the fire fell at dawn. Genesis 19:1.

Noah and his family could not see the judgment because they were in the ark with the window and door shut.

Lot and his family were told not to look at the judgment but his wife did, and she was destroyed together with the wicked.

Noah preached righteousness for 100 years without one convert because there was great spiritual blindness in the people.

In Lot’s day, the angels caused the wicked people to be struck with physical blindness.

Noah and his family were the only eight people out of the whole world, so the ratio of those saved to those destroyed could easily have been 1 in 1 million.

Lot and his two daughters were saved out of several small cities. The ratio could have been 3 out of 3000 or 1 in 1000 as those cities were small.

Noah and his family were transported in the ark above the mountains, they did not need to do anything to escape.

Lot and his daughters had to flee on foot over the rough ground. They had to make their own way in their own strength and could not carry much with them; they never left the surface of the earth.

After the flood, Noah and his family had a large place to live on top of the mountains. He may well have lived in the Ark after the animals had left and their home would have been 450’ x 75’ with 15 foot ceilings. Those who are righteous when Messiah returns will live in the new Jerusalem that comes down from heaven.

Lot and his daughters first went to the small city of Zoar then they became fearful and ended up living in a cave with very few possessions.

Those who are unrighteous and who see Messiah returning in great glory, will try to hide themselves in caves and rocks. Revelation 6:16 And they said to the mountains and to the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of the one seated on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb,

There are too many similarities today to the days of Noah and Lot to ignore and as violence/hamas is again filling the earth and Matthew 24:12 tells us because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

Many are falling away from the faith. Now is the time for our light to shine in the darkness and offer the good news of the gospel of the kingdom. It is time to tell people there is forgiveness of sin and of the grace and mercy we can receive through Messiah to restore our relationship with His Heavenly Father. Messiahs sacrificial death at calvary was on purpose to redeem us and give us eternal life.

If you have not received Yeshua/Jesus as your personal Savior and Lord and if you are not certain where your eternal future lies…make sure right now. Today is the day of salvation for we do not know the day nor the hour of His return…let’s all be ready …time is running out..

Shalom aleikhem

chaverim and mishpachah!

Peace to friends and family.

Shavua Tov, Have a blessed week.

Make certain Messiah Jesus/Yeshua is your Redeemer, Savior, Lord and soon returning King and that you have a personal relationship with Him.

It’s all about Life and Relationship, NOT Religion.

I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus/Yeshua is your Son and that He died on the cross at calvary to pay the price for my sin, so that I might be forgiven and have eternal life in the kingdom of Heaven. Father I believe that Jesus/Yeshua rose from the dead and I ask you to come into my life right now and be my personal Savior and Lord and I will worship you all the days of my life. Because your word is truth I say that I am now forgiven and born again and by faith I am washed clean with the blood of Jesus/Yeshua. Thank you that you have accepted me into your family in Jesus’/Yeshua’s name.

What Does Redemption of The Firstborn Mean?

Redemption of the Firstborn  –

Pidyon HaBen

 פדיון הבן

The blessing for this ceremony is also distinct –

al pidyon habechor =

for the redemption of the firstborn.

Some say

bechor

instead of

al pidyon haben – for the redemption of the son or

pidyon ha-ben – redemption of the son,

plural: Pidyon Ha-bonin, or Pidyon Ha-bens.

In Hebrew the word for redemption is

Pidyon   פדיון

Ha Ben הבן

means: of the son.

What is redemption and why would it be needed?

Is there a cost, a price for redemption?

If there is  a price – who is responsible to pay for it?

Pidyon- redemption, goes back to the days of Moses during the time the nation of Israel was in the wilderness on route from Egypt to the Promised Land.

Korah, who was a tribal leader in Israel, led a rebellion against Moses. As a member of the Levites, Korah was permitted to minister in the mishkan/tabernacle. However Korah was jealous of Aaron, the brother of Moses, who had been appointed High Priest, and he demanded that he be the one to serve as High Priest instead of Aaron.

The outcome of this rebellion is recorded in the Numbers as He, his followers, and their families and possessions were swallowed up by the ground in a judgment of God.

However in a wonderful picture of grace shown by our Heavenly Father, almost 400 years later, a few of his surviving descendants wrote some of the Psalms.

Psalm 49 is one of those credited to the sons of Korah; who, were fully aware of the consequences of sin and they wrote of redemption and its’ price in Psalm 49:6-9:

They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;  None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him;   (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)  That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.

In the above passage, it is clearly stated that while many choose to trust in their riches and even boast in them, there is at least one thing that all their riches are unable to pay for.  No amount of earthly riches can secure redemption and rescue from sin and corruption.

The word corruption used here is the word

pit

and refers to

the final destination of those who have rejected Our Heavenly Father and His Messiah.

As noted the word redemption in Hebrew is

Pidyon – פדיון

and in traditional Hebrew it refers to:

a price that must be paid: to redeem, to rescue, or to deliver someone.

Its’ root is a legal term that concerns:

the substitution required for a person to be delivered from bondage.

Pidyon HaBen is usually referred to as the

redemption of the firstborn.

It is a mitzvah/commandment in Hebraic life because the first and best of all things belong to our Heavenly Father and this includes the firstborn of all children. We see evidence of this in the lives of the early patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and even Jacob who received the blessing of the firstborn through transfer from Esau.

The firstborn child of every Israelite parent received the birthright, which made him the head of the entire family clan.

A pidyon haben,

or

redemption of the firstborn son,

is a ceremony where the father of a firstborn son/bechor, born to Israelite parents redeems his son/bechor by giving a Kohen or Levi (a priestly descendent of Aaron) five silver coins, thirty days after the baby’s birth and only if male and not by caesarean.

Interpretations differ in what the firstborn son is to be redeemed from, ranging from being redeemed from their firstborn status, which brought negative associations following the Ten Plagues. In Exodus the 10th plague was death to all first born in Egypt but the Israelites were spared because they followed God’s instructions. As a result God declared that every first born son and every firstborn of their animals belonged to Him. Because the Israelites had been saved by God’s hand, they were now to be servants and priests before Him.

Then the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me. Exodus 9:1

You are free, but still you are God’s servants, and you must not use your freedom as an excuse for doing wrong 1Peter 2:16

We are set free to serve Him, not ourselves.

Originally, the Israelites firstborn were the priestly class and would serve as the priests and ministers to the Lord. He was to be the priest (kohen) of the family. As the bechor, he was responsible to offer avodah /sacrifice.

Ever since the golden calf incident when they forfeited their status, the priesthood was transferred to the children of Aaron. Of all the tribes, only the tribe of Levi was not guilty of participating; because of this the Lord decreed that the Levites were to take the place of the firstborn sons of Israel. Numbers 3:11–12.

Luke 2:25 – 33

Several years after the Israelites departure from Egypt these firstborn sons became the priesthood of the Israelite nation.

However as The Lord began to reveal more of His plan for His people, He designated an entire tribe for this holy purpose. The sons of Levi were chosen as recorded in Numbers 8:14–18. However this presented a problem of what to do with the previously appointed firstborn sons.

In the Torah, (first 5 books of the Old Testament), God gives a solution by specifying that the firstborn sons

be redeemed and

bought back for service other than full-time priesthood.

Since the days of Moses the custom of pidyon ha ben has been a important event in the biblical life cycle. As mentioned in Numbers 18:6 the timing of pidyon ha ben is one month after a boy’s birth. In biblical times, this would require the father to take his new born son into the Tabernacle or Temple where he would offer a specific amount of money for the baby boys’ redemption. The exact amount is stated –  five shekels of Silver.

Because Joseph and Mary were obedient to the instructions given in Torah, they brought the newborn baby boy to the Temple in Jerusalem to fulfill their obligations.

This obligation was two fold:

1st according to Leviticus 12:8, to ceremonially cleanse the mother and make the required sacrifices.

Yeshua/Jesus’ family was not wealthy and in verse 24 we read that Joseph and Mary may have been relatively poor as they presented the less expensive offering of pigeons/doves.

The 2nd part was to redeem the firstborn son through the pidyon ha ben ceremony and Yeshua/Jesus was not exempt from this redemption; because every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord.

Exodus 11:45, 12:29 – 30 and Exodus 13:2, 12, 15 record the observance of the above.

The purification of the mother is described in Leviticus 12:1-8

The firstborn of every house was required to live a dedicated life, and to think of himself as consecrated to special duties. In Hebrews 12:23 it speaks of the firstborn and of the thought referring to the whole company of those who are the firstborn, as they are also the firstfruits of humanity James 1:18.

They brought Messiah to Jerusalem, to present Him to the Lord. Because the law required that by the end of forty days from His birth, He should be presented in the Temple and that the usual offerings should be made; it seems that Mary and Joseph considered it more convenient to go from Bethlehem, where He was born. It would seem a better proposition as this was only six miles away, instead of after Mary’s recovery, first taking Him to Nazareth, which was a great distance from Jerusalem. We can, reasonably enough believe that they waited in Bethlehem during all the days of her purification, and that they went straight to Jerusalem from Bethlehem.

They entered the temple, and offered the sacrifices necessary for the purification of women after child-bearing, who, according to custom, waited in the Outer Court until the ceremony was performed.

As it is written, Every male that openeth the womb,  And to offer a sacrifice, a pair of turtle doves.

Those who were wealthy were commanded to bring a lamb of the first year for a burnt-offering, and a turtle-dove, or a young pigeon, for a sin-offering.

It is interesting that Luke mentions the presentation of the child to the Lord before the offering of the sacrifice for the mother’s purification; but in fact this should have been before the presentation, because, until it was performed, the mother couldn’t enter the Temple; and Luke introduces both the parents as presenting the child?

The deeper meaning of:

present Him to the Lord –

meant that every first-born male child

among the Israelites was regarded as

holy to the Lord, Exodus 13:2.

By their being

holy unto the Lord

meant that

the office of priests belonged to them.

It was theirs

to be set apart to the service of God –

to offer sacrifice, and to perform the priestly duties.

It is probable that at first, these duties which were transferred onto the “father,” were, when he became infirm or died, transferred to the eldest son; and the duty of leading family worship should be performed by the eldest son. Afterward, God chose the tribe of Levi in the place of the eldest sons, to serve Him in the sanctuary, Numbers 8:13-18.

Yet it was still necessary to present the child to God, and it was required that it should be done with an offering.

Though most translations read their, it was only the mother who needed purifying from the uncleanness of childbearing.

It was in obedience to this law of Moses, that Mary presented her son unto the Lord,  in the

East Gate of the Court called Nicanor’s Gate,

(see last post for location of this gate);

where she herself would be sprinkled by the priest with

the blood of her sacrifice!

In her case the 2 birds, two turtle doves, or two young pigeons, the one for a burnt offering, the other for a sin offering.

In due time, we were all to be redeemed by that firstborn son and His Blood is over us.

not with corruptible things as silver and gold,

but with the precious blood of Christ. 1Pe. 1:18, 19.

The consuming of the mother’s burnt offering, and that she was sprinkled with the blood of her sin offering, were to find their eternal transferral, in the fullness of her first born son whose blood which cleanseth from all sin.

All was done obediently, according to the law of Moses.

 Leviticus 12:1

And here Mary appeared with her firstborn son, the true Messiah; and this was the first time of His coming into His temple, as was foretold, Malachi 3:1.

Luke 2:22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;  23  As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;  24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.

Hebrews 10:14 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified (set apart).

Chart of The Ancient Hebrew pictographs

and for the word Pidyon.

Pidyon, as used here, is spelled

 Pey Dalet Yood Vav Noon

פדיון

Pey is the picture of

the open mouth

and means to speak.

Dalet is the picture of

the door

and refers to a doorway, a place of decision,

or an entrance to life or death.

Yood

is the picture of

the hand or arm

and points us to a mighty work or deed.

Vav

is the picture of

the wooden peg or the iron nail

and means

to fasten or to secure two things that are separated from one another.

Noon

is the picture of the fish

and describes activity or life.

The message found in the pictographs is that:

He is declaring an entrance or a pathway that will require a mighty deed to secure life.

As we have read, NO amount of money will perform this mighty deed, something else will be needed.

Recall that Hebrew letters are also numbers, and each hold a certain meaning according to how they are used in the rest of the Bible.

They reveal a little more about this:

mighty deed that no amount of money can buy.

For more details on the Alefbet/Alphabet click link below

https://www.minimannamoments.com/ancient-pictographic-hebrew-language/

Pey is the number 80 and means a new beginning and a new birth.

Dalet is the number 4 and refers to creation.

Yood is the number 10 and stands for ordinal perfection.

Vav is the number and reveals man’s enmity/separation from God.

Noon is the number 50 and describes deliverance followed by rest.

The Sons of Korah wrote in the Psalms that no one is able to pay the price of redemption.

Did they leave us with a question as to how anyone will ever be delivered from bondage?

Through the meaning in the numbers there is something else found in Pidyon that brings great hope and it’s that this:

redemption will bring a new birth or a new beginning for all creation.  It has been ordained in heaven, and it is the answer to the enmity/separation between us and our Heavenly Father, and it will result in our deliverance followed by rest.

Hebrews 10:12 describes this person.

But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God.

Here we read of a man who was able to pay the price necessary for mankind to be delivered from the bondage of sin.

Mark 10: 45, identifies this man more fully, and the mighty deed/work which He did is also revealed:

For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

In Ps 49:15 We read that the Sons of Korah knew that God would someday provide a way for us to be redeemed.

But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me.

One other connection with the Torah requirement in the Mosaic Covenant and Messiah Yeshua/Jesus, is that because He was Mary’s firstborn son, and Mary was of the kingly lineage of the tribe of Judah; He was not of the priestly tribe of Levi or the sub clan of the kohanim; so, according to the directions given in the Torah, He must be redeemed. His presentation at the Temple was to have the Kohanim/Levites represent His avodah/His service then, was ironically fulfilled at the end of His life when He was killed by their counsel!

John 11:49–52

And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, 50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

Avodah. עֲבוֹדָה;

in Hebrew is literally “service”

the word jointly means work, worship, and sacred service.

Avodah, is the same word used for prayer and also the word for slavery, which is involuntary service.

There is irony here in that those appointed to redeem Him as His kohanim, according to the terms of the Mosaic covenant, were the very ones who made Him our Redeemer. In other words those who were appointed to represent Messiah Yeshua/Jesus before His Father God, were the very ones who later offered Him up as a sacrifice for our sins. Our Heavenly Father is truly God of all gods and King of all kings because His ways are so far beyond our ways!

In 1Tim 2:5,6 the mystery is completed and Paul reveals the name of the One who was able to pay the Pidyon:

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

Day of Atonement – Yom HaKippurim

Known in English as the

Day of Atonement,

Yom HaKippurim

יום כפור

It occurs 9 days after

Yom Teruah/The Feast of Trumpets/Day of Blowing.

It is celebrated on the 10th day of the 7th month in the Hebrew calendar.

(5th October 2022).

It was given originally to the sons of Israel/Yisra’El.

“Speak to the children of Yisra’El, saying, ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you have a rest, a remembrance of Teru‛ah,” Wayyiqra/Leviticus 23:24

The Annual Moedim/Appointed Times of the Lord

were set in by our Heavenly Father to remind us of His Plan and Purpose for our lives now and eternally. The very same God Who granted favor and mercy to all humanity by sending the Messiah, Jesus/Yeshua, to die for our redemption; will also send Him again to destroy His enemies and to separate the wheat from the tares, the sheep from the goats, and to provide the ultimate atonement/redemption for those who are His.

When you see all these things begin to come to pass look up for your redemption draws near. Luke 21:28

What does His Word tell us about this Kadosh/Holy/set-apart day?

Are there things that we are supposed to do and see and hear?

In studying the Scriptures about Yom HaKippurim / Day of Atonement, we could pray in the words of King David: Heavenly Father, please “open our eyes that we might behold wonderful things from your Torah” and see our returning Messiah Jesus/Yeshua in this moed/appointed Day.

Gods’ Word was given to us to speak of Him and we should seek to hear its’ voiceHis voice… especially during His appointed times/moedim.

What Does Scripture Say About Yom HaKippurim?

Yom HaKippurim

יום כּףּר,

Strong’s #3117 + #3725

means

“day [of] atonement”.

Atonement

is the Hebrew word kippur

and it comes from the word

kaphar

which means:

“to cover”.

The blood of atonement was used to cover and cleanse the spiritual uncleanness of the children of Israel/ Yisra’El.

Hebrews 10:4 tells us that the blood of bulls and goats will not take away sins. However there are numerous passages in the Torah, which tell us that the blood of bulls and goats will make atonement or temporary covering.

“For it is impossible for blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.” Ibrim/Hebrews 10:4

In reality we know that the

Atoning Blood of Messiah has covered and cleansed us.

He is our atoning sacrifice.

Wayyiqra/Leviticus 16:1-34 tells us of the casting of lots for the “scapegoat”

The word translated as “scapegoat”

In Strong’s #5799

is the Hebrew word:

עזאזל

azazel.

This word is only used to describe the “scapegoat” in Leviticus 16.

There is some debate among scholars about the literal meaning of the word.

The Brown-Driver-Briggs Lexicon translates it as:

“for absolute removal”.

Strong’s translates it as “goat of departure”.

The NAS Concordance translating it as “entire removal”.

The Septuagint, an early Greek translation of the Old Testament,

took the Hebrew as;

ez ozel [“the goat that departs”]

and translated it as:

tragos apopompaios [“goat sent out”].

This translation was used by the Latin Vulgate, which rendered the word as:

caper emissarius, or “emissary goat”.

William Tyndale rendered the Latin as

“(e)scape goat”

in his 1530 Bible and his translation was later used by the authors of the KJV 1611.

We know that bulls and goats cannot remove sin (Hebrews 10:4) we now understand the purpose of the “scapegoat” was to somehow take the uncleanness associated with sin away from the camp. The person who releases the goat then had to bathe to remove the “stain” of being in contact with the goat.

According to Leviticus 16:29-31 and 23:27

It is a day to “humble your souls”

Heb: ועניתם את נפשׁתיכם

v’initem et napheshoteykhem

Some translations treat this as

“afflict your souls [nephesh]”.

If anyone does not humble himself on this day that person shall be cut off from among his people. Leviticus 23:29.

It is an extremely serious penalty to be cut off from Israel/Yisra’El so we should make an effort to understand what is meant by

“humbling our souls”.

There are two passages in the Tanakh/Old Testament, that use the same words. The first comes from the Psalms where David said:

Malicious witnesses rise up; They ask me of things that I do not know. They repay me evil for good, To the bereavement of my soul. But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fasting, And my prayer kept returning to my bosom. I went about as though it were my friend or brother; I bowed down mourning, as one who sorrows for a mother. Tehillim/Psalm 35:11-14

The 2nd is from Isaiah:

‘Why have we fasted and You do not see? Why have we humbled ourselves and You do not notice?’ Behold, on the day of your fast you find your desire, And drive hard all your workers. Behold, you fast for contention and strife and to strike with a wicked fist. You do not fast like you do today to make your voice heard on high. Is it a fast like this which I choose, a day for a man to humble himself? Is it for bowing one’s head like a reed And for spreading out sackcloth and ashes as a bed? Will you call this a fast, even an acceptable day to the Lord? Yeshayahu/Isaiah 58:3-5.

Yom HaKippurim/Day of Atonement

pictures Messiah because He is

the Great High Priest

Who will bring about

a permanent atonement and cleansing for His people.

“Therefore, since we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, יהושע the Son of Elohim, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who was tried in all respects as we are, apart from sin. Therefore, let us come boldly to the throne of favour, in order to receive compassion, and find favour for timely help.” Ibrim/Hebrews 4:14-16

He is the One Who “stands in readiness” to

lead away our uncleanness

with the scapegoat, the goat of removal.

He is the scapegoat that will

bear our sins and take them away

“For Messiah has not entered into a set-apart place made by hand – figures of the true – but into the heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of Elohim on our behalf, not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters into the set-apart place year by year with blood not his own. For if so, He would have had to suffer often, since the foundation of the world. But now He has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the offering of Himself. And as it awaits men to die once, and after this the judgment, so also the Messiah, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time, apart from sin, to those waiting for Him, unto deliverance.” Ibrim/Hebrews 9:24-28

The self sacrifice that is necessary to atone for our sins is so far beyond what any of us is willing or able to do. It would take every single drop of our own blood to cover our own sins let alone for anothers’. Yet what purpose would this serve if we lost our lives in the process? The justice required by the Lord might be satisfied but His mercy and grace would not be fulfilled.

This Holiest of days in our Fathers Appointed Times/Moedim, is when the haCohen haGadol/the High Priest has to perform the sacrificial offering; to make atonement for the sins of the people through the shedding of innocent blood.

Hebrews 9:6-15

6But The Priests were always entering the outer Tabernacle and performing their ministry, 7But The High Priest would enter the inner Tabernacle once a year by himself with blood, which he was offering in the place of his soul and in the place of the evil doing of the people. 8But by this The Spirit of Holiness had taught that the way of holiness had not yet been revealed, as long as the first Tabernacle was standing.9And this was a symbol for that time in which gifts and sacrifices were offered, which were not able to perfect the conscience of him who offers them, 10Except in food and drink only, and in various washings, which are ordinances of the flesh that are established until the time of reformation.

11But The Messiah who has come has become The High Priest of the good things that he did, and he entered The Great and Perfect Tabernacle which is not made with hands, and was not from these created things. 12And he did not enter with blood of yearling goats and of calves, but with his own blood he entered the holy place one time and has achieved eternal redemption. 13For if the blood of kids and of calves and the ashes of a heifer were sprinkled on those who were defiled and it sanctified them for the purifying of their flesh, 14How much more therefore, will the blood of The Messiah, who by The Eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works that we may serve THE LIVING GOD?

15Because of this, he is The Mediator of The New Covenant, for in his death he is salvation to those who violated The First Covenant, that we, those who were called to eternal inheritance, would receive The Promise.

However much blood is in that sacrifice …it will eventually stop flowing and it will therefore never be enough.

The ONLY ONE Who can sympathize with our weaknesses yet is apart from sin (4:15) is Messiah Yeshua/Jesus and…. HE has come. As haCohen haGadol of the coming good things, He alone could enter the greater and more perfect tabernacle… neither through the blood of goats and calves but through His own innocent blood.

Atonement has been made

and Messiah has obtained age enduring redemption for us. When John declared in 1:29  Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! We know now this prophetic statement was completed 2000+ years ago.

Justice is satisfied and mercy fulfilled …once and for all…. The blood, His blood its everywhere and it’s alive.. not drying up, or running out… because, in Messiah there will always be enough. HalleluYah!

Dear Heavenly Father we humble ourselves before you as we think on this Holy time. Denying ourselves because You once denied Yourself for us. We bless your Name with a thankful heart for you have done for us what we could never do for ourselves. Our Father God, Lord, King, our Savior and Redeemer, we worship You and bow down before You in humility; by ourselves we are nothing but in You and in You alone we have everything because You are more than enough….

Chag Sameach Yom HaKippurim!

Heavenly Father I come to you in the Name of Jesus/Yeshua asking for forgiveness of my sins for which I am truly sorry. I repent of them all and turn away from my past.
