Time for a change of focus?
We are in the season of the 10 Days of Awe
in Hebrew it is
Yamim nora’im – ימים נוראים
These moedim appointed times of the spiritual year as given by our heavenly Father can be found in Leviticus 23.
These 10 days are a time to change our focus off of ourselves and our lives and look towards the Lord; in that we focus our attention on Him and our relationship with Him. It is a time of repentance and remembering what He has provided for us and that He is and always will be the Lamb of God Who gave His life for us; that His shed blood is on the kapporet crying mercy and forgiveness on our behalf.
We are to look only to the Creator of heaven and earth and we are warned in Isaiah 2:22 who points to the necessity of placing trust in Him.
“Cease ye from man, whose breath/spirit is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?”

This last week the 7th month and the first day is commanded in Leviticus 23:23-25
ראש השנה), (literally “head of the year”),

Feast of trumpets is the common name for this moed, despite the fact that it is not a feast and is only linked with trumpets, shofars or rams horns by inference, shabaton in the verse.
שַׁבָּתוֹן, ‘shabbaton‘ meaning ‘special Sabbath’.
“On the seventh month, on the first day of that month, you shall have a shabbaton [a day of rest], zichron tru’a, mikra kodesh [a day set aside for gathering], do not work,

There are a few facts that we can clearly see from this instruction. First we know that this moed falls on the new moon, so it would follow that it shares similar instructions with the other 11/12 new moons that occur every calendar year. The new moon determines the beginning of each Hebrew month on Israel’s calendar, unlike the Gregorian calendar followed by the western worlds system. it is not listed in Lev. 23, there are specific sacrifices commanded for each new moon and the silver trumpets are to be blown. Numbers/Bmidbar 10:10.
Secondly, like many other moadiym, this moed is a holy convocation or sacred assembly.
Thirdly, on this day unlike the other ‘no regular work days,’
‘rest’
is specifically commanded, so this day is to be more restful than even the days of the spring moadiym/moedim.

The unique feature of this moed is found in the words
zik ron t’ruah
זִכְרוֹן תְּרוּעָה
but the context here does not offer much help in understanding its meaning.
Reference for Hebrew text : https://www.blueletterbible.org/kjv/lev/23/24/p0/t_conc_113024
Literally the words can be rendered:
remembrance – zik’ron (with) loud blasts (of sound) – t’ruah.
“zik” (זִק) means “sound.”
“ron” (רוֹן) means “joy” or “song.”
“t’ruah” (תְּרוּעָה) refers to the “blast” or “sound” of the shofar.
In other words we are supposed to remember or memorialize something. This is to done with, or caused by, loud blasts of sound. Psalm 81:3 invites us into a moment of celebration and reflection. The call to “blow the trumpet” in this verse emphasizes a significant time, marked by the new moon is referenced, a full moon and a feast day too.
This pattern only occurs on the 1st and 7th months. Because there is no special significance to the 1st months new moon as this one, is it meaning that the t’ruah can be made through the blowing of the shofar?

In Josh 6:20, there is a connection between t’ruah and the shofar but only by association.
And the people shouted – rua and blew – taka with the shofarot and it came to pass when the people shouted – rua with a great shout – t’ruah g’dolah and the wall fell flat.
Although the shofar is mentioned
it is not what made the t’ruah… the people did!
In other scriptures also, t’ruah is the sound of people shouting and making noise and loud sounds with their mouths. In other scriptures t’ruah is the sound of the shofar, as on Yom haKipuriym in the year of Jubilee, a shout of praise shout of joy and loud blasts of sound. Leviticus 25:9.

When truah is connected to the command for zikron it is for remembrance. To remember why we are celebrating these moedim after the long hot summer.
This zikron truah is the season of remembering the incredible provision, protection, atonement and deliverance of Messiah. We are to remember how great He is, of His goodness, faithfulness and loving kindness.
This moed has a strong command to it, however the traditions of Judaism have made it into the High Holy Day, second only to Yom Kippur. The traditions around this day are many and it is observed with great reverence. Already noted, traditionally it is known as Rosh Hashanah which literally means ‘head of the year.’ Judaism recognizes the 1st day of the 7th month as the beginning of the new civil year, now 5786. One of the main features of Rosh Hashanah is the blowing of the shofar, which according to Judaism fulfills the command to make t’ruah. Because this moed has become so closely linked with the shofar some Messianics and Christians have connected it with prophetic scriptures dealing with referring to the ‘day of the Lord’ or the 1 Thess. ‘catching away’; which has evolved to be tagged as ‘the rapture’. Since this moed has no direct scriptural link to the shofar, is there really any solid ground for making such a prophetic jump?
There is much confusion around this saying as it has been taken out of context and consequently taken on a life of its own; becoming a doctrine in some denominations. Earlier posts have addressed this subject.
This year more than most previous years, many ‘prophetic voices’ were pointing to the moed last week as the rapture day. The days came and went and once again disappointment settled in. The scripture ‘cease from men… ‘ quoted above, is to warn us not to put our hope in human dating. We are not to trust in those who state what, and when, our Heavenly Father, Creator of the universe is going to do things. Not all dreams are from the Lord God of Heaven and if they don’t line up with scripture they may be supernatural but are not of divine origin.
Recall the scripture, 2 Corinthians 11:14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.
By masquerading as an angel of light, Satan seeks to imitate the appearance of goodness and divine truth, making his deceptions more convincing.
However well meaning these youtube videos on the internet are, many times they give false hope and misdirect our focus, making people look for the wrong thing. And when that hope is dashed, it can lead to loss of faith, depression and disillusioned thought processes that take people away from the truth of the Word. Our hope is to be placed firmly in Messiahs promises, in our Fathers plan and in His Word. The scriptures are clear, Yeshua/Jesus own words are those we are to pin our hope on. Not peoples words.
In Matthew 24:36 He said clearly
“But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

Not even Him, the Son. ….So how do these prophetic voices know?
He will return, He said, as a thief, when no one is expecting Him.
A thief comes when no one is not only watching but no one is expecting.
This is so we will live according to His commandments every day, a lifestyle, and not just when we think He is coming on a certain day.
The Matthew 13;24 reference is another reason to think…why we are looking for a quick escape?….Here it’s the tares who are taken first, not the wheat. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”
Cease from men … The enemy will use our fears to give us false hope of escaping persecution and troubled times, however we should not be in fear; but in faith that our Heavenly Father is true to His word and He has everything under control. We are to be busy about our Fathers business, doing with all our might what He has called us to do. Doing the work of His kingdom. We know all things will be fulfilled but in His timing not when it suits us, thinking we are going to avoid hardships. Every day 1000’s of believers around the world are experiencing disasters and unthinkable situations, needing relief far more than those in the west. Matthew 24:13 says He who endures to the end will be saved.

As believers in Yeshua/Jesus we have plenty to celebrate. . He will not leave us nor forsake us, we are to trust only in Him, not in people.
We are to place our hope in Him and in a day when you least expect your Lord will come.
The Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Luke 12:40).

We are to place our hope in His words, not peoples; we are to have faith in His promises, not peoples; because they are human and subject to failure. Our Father will not and cannot ever fail. Heaven and earth will pass away but my words will never pass away…Matthew 24:35
In Hebrews 13:5 The Amplified translation leaves us in no doubt of His promise “He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [ Assuredly not!]”.

During these 10 days of awe, the fall moedim, let’s focus on the Lord, His will, plan and purpose. Let’s rejoice in the remembrance of what Messiah has done and will do when He does return. Previous posts on the fall moedim are listed on Homepage. Only Our Heavenly Father is right – He is Truth – so our opinions are irrelevant, we are to simply study for ourselves and so, let the reader decide.

I’m sure that many readers spent countless childhood hours with a parent learning how to do things by watching, listening and then doing them. That’s how we were taught practical applications, they would say, ‘pay attention, watch me and listen to what I say, now you do it.’ It was in everything from cleaning, cooking, how to use tools, , etc., etc., the list is endless and is the greatest legacy they could have ever given us. Character development and practical information on how to behave was by example; and this is exactly how Messiah taught His followers. His disciples who became the emissaries /apostles, were with Him, watched Him, listened to Him and then were sent out to do what He had taught them. We learn so much by example, by what we see and hear all around us; and it’s why we must be mindful that those who we emulate are true disciples of Messiah. If they are not walking the walk of the Word of God, if they are not walking before the Father, whether it’s a congregational leader, a parent, a spouse, or a friend then we must not emulate them or walk their walk. We must not follow their lead, Messiah said
‘Follow Me’.

Paul said in 1 Cor.11:1 ‘follow me as I follow Christ’.
Not follow me!
We should by now be out of our spiritual childhood years. Hebrews 5:12 is a warning to believers who are not spiritually mature. We are supposed to have a good understanding of Scripture so that we can teach others.
By now you should be teachers because you have been a long time in training: But even now you need to be taught the primary writings of the word of God; but you are still in need of milk, and not strong meat.
We are to encourage others to be grown up children of Adonai who like Enoch was walking with Him. Genesis 5:24 and in Genesis 17:1 Abraham was told to walk before Him.

Later the people of Israel are ordered to walk behind Him in Deuteronomy. The different positions may be that it depends on the circumstances at the time.

The children of Israel have been studying scripture for thousands of years and the rabbis have many writings that give greater understanding by way of their culture and lifestyles.
Here is one that may reveal the heart of our heavenly Father in teaching us about the spiritual walk of a true believer.
Walking is a natural instinct but a child must learn to walk, a father does this by putting the child before him and stands a few feet away; and then spreads his arms wide and encourages the child to come to him for a hug. The child will begin to walk toward him without thinking about the fact they are walking because they want that hug from their father. All the while the father is there to catch the child if he starts to fall. This is how the rabbis explain this passage telling Abram to walk before Him. He is teaching Abram to walk the righteous walk, which leads to the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. This is for new believers, first He will teach us to walk that righteous life and He is there to catch us as the loving, caring Father that He is. However there are times, as in Deuteronomy 31:8, Israel is commanded to walk behind Adonai. This is when the child walks behind his father to follow in his footsteps, and learn from his example, being mentored by his father. Likewise after a new believer has learned to walk and grown into spiritual childhood, he will walk behind our Heavenly Father, follow Him and learn to do what Messiah Yeshua/Jesus would do in every situation.

Next we become a spiritual adult and here is where we walk with our Heavenly Father ministering to others by and with His Holy Spirit, serving Him in close relationship and enjoying each others presence walking a life pleasing to Him.
Isaiah 40:31 Those who wait on the Lord shall walk and not faint.
To walk and not faint is the highest stretch possible as a measure of strength and is the text for all of our steady and enduring qualities. This word walk is used to express the character of a person. People look at our lives what we do where we go and who we spend time with; this is our walk.

In the account in John 1:35- 36, John was looking at Yeshua/Jesus as He walked and He said,
‘behold the Lamb of God’.
In the scriptures everything is vivid and real, there’s nothing abstract or obscure, our Heavenly Father does not say ‘Be spiritual’, but He says
‘walk before me’
Genesis 17:1
HEB: אֵ֣ל שַׁדַּ֔י הִתְהַלֵּ֥ךְ לְפָנַ֖י וֶהְיֵ֥ה
NAS: Almighty; Walk before
KJV: God; walk before me,
INT: God Almighty Walk before become
Strongs# 1980 halak
We will always look for excitement and distractions in life when we are in an un healthy condition either spiritually, physically or emotionally. If we insist on pursuing only exciting entertainment, it will result in the destruction of our spirituality; then in our physical life this leads to our efforts to counterfeit the work of the Holy Spirit, and in our emotional life it leads to obsessions and to moral destruction.
Walking in Adonai’s presence is dependent on our commitment to keep Him before us continually, it’s not dependent on a particular circumstance or location and our problems arise when we refuse to place our trust in the reality of His presence. Once we are grounded on the truth of the reality of His presence and not just a simple awareness of it, but an understanding of the reality of it; then the experience of Ps. 46:2 will be ours too. We will know that He has been here all the time and that He will and in fact He is directing us in this and that situation already.
If our everyday decisions are not according to His will He will press through them bringing restraint to our spirit and it’s then that we must be quiet and wait for the direction of His presence.
In Hebrew walk is halak הלך Hei Lamed Kap
halak: To go, walk, come, proceed, move
Original Word: הָלַךְ
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: halak
Pronunciation: hah-lahk
Phonetic Spelling: (haw-lak’)
הָלַךְ (hālak) appears about 1,549 times in the Old Testament, making it one of the most pervasive verbs in the Hebrew canon. The range of usage moves from simple physical motion to the comprehensive idea of a person’s life-direction. Scripture thus employs the verb to speak of footsteps across desert sands, the inner journey of faith, the moral path of obedience, and even the future march of redemption.
From Eden onward, covenant fellowship is illustrated by walking with God. Genesis 3:8 records the LORD “walking in the garden in the cool of the day.”
Enoch “walked with God, and he was no more, for God took him” (Genesis 5:24).
Similar wording appears of Noah (Genesis 6:9). In covenant stipulations the same imagery recurs: “I will walk among you and be your God” (Leviticus 26:12).

Blessing depends not merely on believing in God’s existence but on walking in relational harmony with Him.
Because Israel’s way of life before God is depicted as a walk, הָלַךְ it becomes a technical term for moral and ethical conduct. Deuteronomy 5:33 commands, “You shall walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you.”
Psalms contrasts two paths: “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked” (Psalm 1:1).
Prophets confront a covenant breach in the same way: “They have walked after their own counsels” (Hosea 11:2).
Here faith is proved genuine in daily steps of obedience.
Prophets also use הָלַךְ to herald coming restoration. Isaiah foresees a highway of holiness: “And a highway will be there… No lion will be on it… but the redeemed will walk there” (Isaiah 35:8-9). Micah promises, “We will walk in the name of the LORD our God forever and ever” (Micah 4:5).
Zechariah pictures future priestly purity: “If you will walk in My ways and keep My charge, then you will also govern My house” (Zechariah 3:7).
The repeated verb looks forward to the consummated kingdom in which God’s people walk securely.
Proverbs repeatedly urges the young to choose companions carefully because “He who walks with the wise will become wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed” (Proverbs 13:20). Wisdom is not merely a mental acquisition; it is a disciplined walk.
In Psalm 23 the word for walk here is halak which is translated 146 different ways in the NASB. The common denominator for all its usages is simply to be going somewhere. Halak is a journey with a destination. It is a simple walk to a destination, not a race, not a cautious walk but simply a normal journey to a destination. This whole Psalm speaks of a life journey. From the beginning the Lord is pictured as a shepherd who keeps us from want, and this life’s journey is not to gain our basic needs. On this journey we need to pause, stop for an occasional rest where our Heavenly Father supplies green pastures and refreshing waters to restore our soul which gets beaten and battered during this journey.

Proverbs 10:9 He who walks in integrity walks securely, One translation reads He who walks purely walks securely.. When we walk in close relationship with the Lord we will consistently choose to be obedient and faithful to do all that He requires of us and in that covenant relationship our walk, our life is safe and secure; and that is walking the walk.
Rosh Hashanah is Tuesday and Wednesday of next week…keep looking up!

Hebrews 11:6 tells us clearly that it is
impossible to please our Heavenly Father
without a certain attribute….
This means that to please Him we need that certain attribute,
that gift…
we need faith.
This faith is both a gift from our Heavenly Father and a response to His revelation, as seen in Ephesians 2:8-9, which emphasizes that faith is a gift of grace. The faith that overcomes the world is active and living…
Most likely the most preached on topic and through the years many facets have been explored by many believers…Below are just a few
thoughts on faith to ponder and linger on….
Faith and obedience are connected and so are faith and grace.
The level of our growth in grace /chen, is revealed by the way we look at obedience.
Hebrews 5:8; John 10:30. I and the Father are one.

Hebrews 11:6… without it, it’s impossible to please God.
By pleasing the Father we are also pleasing Messiah.
It is finished, He has done all He was and is going to do to provide us with everything we need.
We have been given ‘the measure of faith’ but how big is that measure?
Matthew 17:20 Mustard seed faith means nothing will be impossible for us.
Our Heavenly Father does not reward us for our faith.
We do not earn anything through faith.
Faith brings us into the right relationship with
our Heavenly Father and Messiah.

It gives Him His opportunity to work.
Faith worketh by love, Gal.5:6,
and the trying or testing of it works patience. James 1:3.
Faith is active opposition to commonsense which is mistaken enthusiasm and narrow-mindedness.
Common sense in opposition to faith demonstrates a mistaken reliance on reason as the basis for truth.
The life of faith brings the two above into proper relationship.
A life of faith is just that, a life of faith, it’s not a life of emotional enjoyment of His blessing.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things unseen, those things which are not yet manifested to the natural physical eye.
In the Genesis of our faith, life it was narrow and intense and centered around a small amount of experience that had as much emotion as faith in it. And it was full of light and sweetness, like a honeymoon in a marriage, then life gets real and we face real challenges. ‘The rubber hits the road’, our Heavenly Father withdraws His conscious blessings to teach us to walk by faith. He teaches us to stop looking to people for channels of blessing and to meet all our needs and solve all our problems but to look to Him alone and allow Him to choose the who and how avenues of provision.
We are now worth much more to the Lord than in the days of our initial exuberance with our thrilling testimony.

Faith by its very nature must be tested and tried by trials, situations and circumstances which reveal who and what we depend on and look to for help and answers. The real trial of faith is that our Heavenly Father’s character must be proven as trustworthy in our own minds, it is not simply that we find it difficult to trust Him.
Faith being worked out into reality must experience times of unbroken isolation.
Never confuse the trial of faith with the ordinary discipline of life; because a great deal of what we call the trial of faith is the inevitable result of being alive.
Faith as the Bible teaches it, is faith in our Heavenly Father coming against everything that contradicts Him. It’s a faith that says I will remain true to His character whatever He may do.
The highest and greatest expression of faith in the whole word of God from Genesis to Revelation is Job 13:15:
though he slay me yet will I trust him….
and next is in Daniel when the three Hebrews were in the fiery furnace... our God will deliver us and if not we will still not bow...
Common sense and faith are as different from each other as the natural life is from the spiritual and as impulsiveness is from inspiration.
Faith is a force of the Spirit of YHVH and nothing connected to His kingdom works or operates without it.
That’s why the measure of faith is given to all.
Nothing Yeshua/Jesus said is commonsense….
it is revelation sense and is complete,
whereas common sense falls short; yet faith must be tested and tried before it becomes real in your life.
Romans 8 :28 says ..
all things must work together with condition, so that no matter what happens, the transforming power of His providence transforms perfect faith into reality. Faith always works in a personal way because the Fathers purpose is to see that perfect faith is made real His children.
For every detail of common sense in life, theres a truth our Father has revealed by which we can prove in our practical experience what we believe Him to be.
Faith is a tremendously active principle that always puts Messiah first. The life of faith says: Lord you said it, it looks totally irrational, but I’m going to step out boldly trusting in your word. Matthew 6:33
Turning intellectual faith into our personal possession is always a fight and not just sometimes. We are to fight the good fight of faith because it is a good fight.
He will bring us into particular circumstances to educate and strengthen our faith because the nature of our faith is to make the object of our faith very real to us. Until we know Messiah, God is merely a concept and we can’t have faith in Him, but once we hear the words: He who has seen me has seen the Father John 14:9; we immediately know and have something that’s real and our faith is as limitless as Yahweh Himself.

Faith is the entire person in the right relationship with our Heavenly Father through the power of the Spirit of Yeshua Messiah.
It is not impossible to please Him if we have faith in Him, that He is able to do super abundantly above all that we can ask or even imagine; and that we live by that faith and walk in that faith.…our faith is the victory, that overcomes the world. 1 John 5:4 refers to putting our trust in the saving work of Messiah Yeshua/Jesus.

He who believes in me
out of his heart
will flow……
He who believes in Me [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Me], as the Scripture has said, ‘From his innermost being will flow continually rivers of living water.’” John 7:38.
Our Heavenly Fathers purpose is not just to make us beautiful grapes but to be those He can squeeze the sweet juice out of. We are crushed to make that wine of joy because our spiritual life cannot be measured by success as the world measures success, but only by what He pours through us… His living water… and we cannot measure that at all. His purpose is not to develop us as an individual person but to make us exactly like Himself. If we want to know what we are to become then we must take the time to look at His life.
His life was characterized by self expenditure and it’s not what we gain by the life our Heavenly Father gave us but rather what He pours through us when we get out of His Way. Unlike the ways of this world, His teaching and lifestyle was always the opposite of self realization.
We are all familiar with the story of Mary of Bethany who broke her alabaster flask of pure spikenard.
More importantly is the fact that Messiah said what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her wherever the gospel is preached; and here we are remembering her actions once again.
Wherever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, which this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her. Matthew 26:13
There is a spiritual key in this scripture to remind the reader that If we want Messiah to be joy-filled…
then we need to do what Mary did
because as He said in verse 10:
she has done a beautiful thing for Me.
Mary was not bound by any particular set of rules because she was totally surrendered to Him and honestly didn’t care what people thought. She was free from public opinion and not in bondage to religious tradition or any denominational doctrine.
Can we say the same?
What she did was an act of total surrender, she was emptying herself before Messiah by pouring out all that was of value to her.
It was a picture of her self pouring out her life for Him.
No one else but Yeshua/Jesus saw its true meaning and it touched Him so deeply that He brought everyones attention to what she was doing.
There were those who criticized her and called it a waste but Yeshua/ Jesus saw it as an act of supreme devotion. He poured out His life and His Father allowed Him to be that extravagant example by willingly laying down His physical and spiritual life that through it the world might be saved. John 3:17.
He is calling us to do the same because...
He who believes in Me
out of His heart will flow living waters.
Are we prepared to pour out our lives for Him?
When we do, when we break the (alabaster) flask of our life, other lives will be continually refreshed.
Being broken is not the same as being cracked, we are cracked when external circumstances cause the injuries which are incurred from following our own ways. When we choose to be broken for Him, is when we stop seeking our own satisfaction and decide to pour out our lives before Him.
If you have not yet done so...
it’s time to break the flask.
And it takes faith to do it…
Psalm 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
There is no self denial possible without full surrender.

Father I believe that Jesus rose from the dead and I ask you to come into my life right now and be my personal Savior and Lord and I will worship you all the days of my life. Because your word is truth I say that I am now forgiven and born again and by faith I am washed clean with the blood of Jesus. Thank you that you have accepted me into your family in Jesus’ name. Amen.
