Climbing Mountains and Leaving For Home – Comings and Goings

Having just completed the 49 days of Counting the Omer.

This season runs from the First Fruits – בִּכּוּרִים – Bikkurim/Resurrection

to

Pentecost/Shavuot/שָׁבוּעוֹת which begins on the 50th day from פסח – Pesach/Passover.

We remember Yeshua/Jesus was with them for 40 days after His Resurrection and appeared to many during that time, up to the day He returned Home to heaven/shamayim.

1Cor. 5:16. After that, He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.

In John 20:17 we are told that on the first day of the week after Passover/Pesach, Jesus/Yeshua appeared to Mary Magdalene, (Miriam of Magdala).

The women that came to the tomb (Mary the Mother of James, Salome, and Joanna), then a first appearance to Peter. He also appeared to the rest of the 12 Disciples with Thomas absent, later He appeared to them with Thomas present.

The occasion recorded in 1 Corinthians 15:1-11, to 500 at one time, then to James (presumably James the brother of Jesus), then to all the Apostles, and last to Paul himself.

There was also the meeting with the 2 disciples on the Emmaus road.

The 40th day of the Omer was when His Ascension took place and the promise was given to those present that He will return the same way they saw Him go.

His second coming shall be in like manner as Acts 1:10-11 And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them.

His Cross is the door/Dalet by which whosoever will can enter into the eternal life to be with the Father.

Dalet door of the cross

Because of His resurrection, Jesus/Yeshua, has the right to give eternal life to anyone, and by His ascension our Savior entered heaven, keeping the door open for humanity.

His previous Transfiguration which began on another Mountain was completed on the Mountain of Ascension.

The Transfiguration was a manifestation of His glory a powerful demonstration of His divine nature, which He possessed prior to coming to earth in a human body.

Before Abraham was I AM. John 8:58

Undoubtedly, the purpose of His transfiguration, into at least a portion of His heavenly glory, was so that those of His disciples who were closest to Him, could gain a greater understanding of Who He was. Surely He underwent a dramatic change in appearance when the disciples saw Him in His glory.

After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them “his face did shine as the sun,” “and his garments became glistering, exceeding white, so as no fuller on earth can whiten them.”

Luke 9:27; Matthew 17:1-8.

One of the purposes of the Transfiguration may have been to strengthen the faith of the disciples in His divine nature before they experienced the shock of the difficult days ahead of them.

In early times, the mount of the Transfiguration had become known as the holy mount. (2 Peter 1:18). It seems to have been known by the faithful, and one tradition identified it with Mount Thabor/Tabor.

The other view, and probably more likely one, is that Mount Hermon was the site of the transfiguration.

Hermon means: Devoted or Sanctified!

Mount Hermon from the Sea of Galilee

It is in the far north, the location of Caesarea Philippi, at the southwestern foothills; 25 miles northeast of the Sea of Galilee to the Golan Heights.

It is situated on a terrace 1,150 feet high overlooking a lush fertile valley. Here also, is the easternmost source for the Jordan River.

It is one of the four major headwaters.

During the Hellenistic period (323 to 31 B.C.), this city was originally called Panias (also spelled Paneas) because of its close association with the Greco-Roman god Pan. The modern name, Banias, is an Arabic corruption of the original.

In order to distinguish it from the harbor city on the Mediterranean called Caesarea Maritima, it became known as Caesarea Philippi. Philip, one of Herod the Great’s sons, renamed it so in honor of Emperor Augustus in 2 B.C.

Here in Caesarea Philippi, there was once a magnificent temple which dominated the landscape, constructed of white marble by Herod the Great to the godhead of Caesar. An earthquake in 363 C.E likely destroyed the city.

There is a cave immediately to the north of Caesarea Philippi.

This cave was said to be the birthplace of the Greco-Roman god Pan/Faunus, the god of nature, fields, forests, mountains, flocks and shepherds.

The pagan worshipers would make sacrifices at the mouth of the cave where they had built a sanctuary to Pan/Faunus.

It would seem to make sense for the transfiguration to take place in that region where Messiah had been ministering and where Peter made his confession.

Not coincidentally, at the base of this mountain was the place known as the gates of Hades, (gates of hell).

To the pagan mind, the cave at Caesarea Philippi created a gate to the underworld (Hades), where they believed fertility gods took up residence during the winter.

This location was especially unique because it stood at the base of a cliff where spring water flowed. At one time, the water ran directly from the mouth of a cave set in the bottom of the cliff. This region is referred to in the Old Testament by the name Baal-gad, which is described in the northernmost conquest of Joshua as being in the Valley of Lebanon below Mount Hermon (Josh. 11:17; 12:7; 13:5; also see: Judges 3:3; 1 Chron. 5:23).

The name Baal-gad meant literally Master Luck, the name of a god of fortune who may later have been identified with Pan. One good reason the Bride of Messiah should refrain from using the term good luck when offering encouragement to one another; but rather offer shalom and blessings to each other in Jesus/Yeshuas name.

This region was the northernmost extent of Yeshua/Jesus’ ministry and no doubt He found some privacy here with His disciples in this non-Jewish region, no less, because it was beyond the jurisdiction of Galilee’s ruler, Herod Antipas. It was here in the district of Caesarea Philippi, not long before before His final journey to Jerusalem and crucifixion that He asked the 12 disciples,

Who do you say that I am?

Matt.16:15.

It is a very important point that Jesus/Yeshua chose to ask this question here, since there were few areas anywhere else with more religious significance; and because it was filled with the temples of ancient Syrian Baal worship. Historians have identified at least 14 such temples, it was a place beneath the shadow of ancient gods.

Imagine the scene, Jesus/Yeshua was standing in an area with the temples of the Syrian gods, a place where the Greek gods were believed to look down, and the place where the most important river in Israel has its source, (the Jordan river), and asked them Who they thought He was.

Messiah knew what He was doing when choosing the 3 disciples, Peter, James and John to follow Him to the summit of Mount Hermon. His choice was not random and because of His well-defined objective, He was not concerned the rest would feel rejected or resentful but did what needed to be done. Peter would testify later, saying:

“for we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the father honor and glory when such a voice came to him from the excellent glory: “this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased.” and we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with him on the HOLY MOUNTAIN.” 2 peter 1.16-18

Some may wonder why He didn’t choose His beloved Mount of Olives, or where He heard the prayer of His servant/prophet Elijah, and responded with fire on Mount Carmel? Or even the Mount of Beatitudes, where He taught, revealing the secrets of eternal life? Why did He choose the highest and most difficult mountain to climb in Israel?

Psalm 133 gives us an answer:

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments.

It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord commanded the blessing – life forevermore.”

Yeshua/Jesus chose Mount Hermon, because He wanted to point out to His disciples what it represents, as described in the Psalm.

It was prophetic because it spoke of unity, harmony and perfect peace/shalom, among the children of God in the Kingdom of Heaven; and accurately portrays the picture of our Heavenly Fathers’ family gathered around His throne. He expresses His joy and delight in seeing His children around Him, the fruit of the sacrifice of His first born, Jesus/Yeshua.

Comparing the joy to: like the precious oil upon the head.

This precious oil upon the head represents the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the form of a physical anointing/Shavuot/Pentecost; and it is something that can only be understood by those who have had this experience.

Like the dew of Mount Hermon is the reference to the sources of water that form the rivers, which merge together forming the River Jordan. Mount Hermon is the water source for all of Israel. Water is life/chaim, it is impossible to live without its existence and in those days, the greatest wealth of a community was water, for that reason, settlements were always built around wells/water sources. Another reason He said, John 4:14; but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

When the Psalmist writes, the dew of Hermon that descends upon the mountains of Zion, he is portraying the fullness of life that Gods’ children enjoy in His presence.

Mount Hermon could be said to be a sanctuary that is invisible to the eyes of the wicked, being revealed to the chosen ones, because of its splendor and spiritual significance, no wonder the Messiah chose it from among the others and,

from it,

God commands the blessing

and life/chaim/lifes, forevermore!

It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord commanded the blessing – life forevermore.”

Small wonder the devil tried to usurp it for his own!

Because of this significance, no doubt Messiah deliberately set Himself against the world’s religions and was asking to be compared with them. Here in this setting, is where Peter boldly replies with his great confession,

You are the Messiah/the Christ, the Son of the living God. Matt. 16:16.

Now the significance of this tremendous statement of faith becomes clearer and it changed everything for the disciples.

Then Yeshua/Jesus responds in Matt. 16:17-18 Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell [literally, Hades] shall not prevail against it.

Here His reference to the cave and the gates of Hades at Mount Hermon, makes complete sense!

It is plain from Scripture that His ascension from another mountain, that of Mount of Olives; was a literal, bodily return to heaven. He rose from the ground gradually and visibly, observed by the disciples. Straining to catch a last glimpse of Yeshua/Jesus, when a cloud hid Him from their view, then, 2 angels appeared and promised the onlookers…in just the same way that you have watched Him go. Acts 1:11.

The daily route Jesus/Yeshua took in and out of the city passed over the Mount of Olives. From ancient times the revered rise overlooking Jerusalem from east was seen with importance.

The Mount of Olives is a mountain ridge east of and adjacent to Jerusalem’s Old City. It is named for the olive groves that once covered its slopes. He led the disciples over the summit and onto the eastern slope of the Mount of Olives. Interestingly, the journey was what is defined as a Sabbath’s journey; or a little more than 1/2 mile.

Mark:11:1; [Luke:19:29];[Luke:24:50

The ascension was the ultimate, indisputable evidence that Jesus Christ/Yeshua HaMashiach was triumphant, conquering ha satan/the adversary and all his hosts. Here is the extent of His victory, but it also reveals the measure of the power which has been bestowed upon His saints to carry out His work on earth until He returns.

It emphasizes the fact that we are given the serious responsibility of putting His will into effect on earth, as He reigns from heaven.

Matthew 6:9-13 verse 6:10.

The Rabbi/Teacher’s parting words commissioned His people to make disciples of every creature among the nations throughout the earth (Mt. 28:18-20; Mk. 16:15-16; Lk. 24:47).

This was 10 days before Shavuot and the Holy Spirit/Ruach HaKodesh outpouring.

Pesach/Passover is incomplete and Shavuot/Pentecost obstructed and the Second Coming of Messiah impossible without His Ascension!

Acts 2:5  And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

https://www.minimannamoments.com/the-look-of-shavuot/

This reference to Cloven Tongues may have been an indication to them that the fire was not strange fire but Holy acceptable fire from heaven.

Leviticus 11:3. Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is cloven footed, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat.

However one of the main meanings to them was that Pentecost/Shavuot was the celebration of the giving of Torah in the wilderness and the manifested presence of God came as fire and remained with them by night for 40 years; and furthermore, fire was always known as a cleansing agent.

This was the presence of God, the impartation of His spirit infilling the properly prepared vessels; igniting that zeal to go and make disciples of all nations.

One final interesting point is that, a critical scene was repeated post resurrection but pre ascension.

The location was beside the Sea of Galilee in Luke 5:1-11; Matt.4:18-22; Mark 1:16-20.

Notably the place/HaMakem, of Calling.

See

https://www.minimannamoments.com/have-we-heard-it/

https://www.minimannamoments.com/the-calling-part-2/

Here in Matthew 4:22, Yeshua/Jesus called them and they left everything to follow Him….. (Have we?)…

But not until after He told them them to let down their nets for a catch. Which they did and pulled in a huge haul of fish.

He stated He would make them fishers of men. Then in John 21, He is again in Galilee beside the sea and tells them to let down their nets for a catch.

Once again the nets were filled to overflowing.

He tells them to come and eat.

Again the reference to feeding them for He is the bread of life.

This is at the end of His time with them.

We see the reference to

the beginning and the end

the first and the last

the Alef and Tav

the Alpha and Omega,

(Rev.22:13)

start and finish of their time with Him.

The catch of fish to becomes the catching of men,

catching souls for the kingdom of the Heavens.

The 2nd time was the place of commissioning.

A question arises always where did the fire, hot coals, fish and bread come from?

The coals/ Stones were hot so it would seem that He had been there a while.

Bring some fish He says.

Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught. John 21:10

The bread wouldn’t have been the flat crisp sort so that it could be broken, not a soft loaf like we usually think of.

This makes another question. Where did He get the bread from, was it another miracle?

Did He turn some of the stones beside the sea of Galilee into bread?

Stones that look very much like bread!

This was the very subject of an earlier temptation the devil used against Him, to prove that He was the Son of God/YHWH.

Now it was no temptation, but instead, a provision to feed His children-mishpachah/disciples-talmidim/friends-cheverim.

He was and is the Son of the Living God, the Creator of the universe, who took the elements of the dirt of the earth He created to form us. Surely then, as the devil came testing/ tempting Him, He was able to do just that… or it would not have been by its’ very definition – a temptation?

What we do know is everything points to Jesus as Messiah, savior and He points always to the father. Everything has meaning whether we fully understand it or not.

Pentecost/Shavuot was a ‘second giving’, of the Torah.

A giving of Himself, of His risen Spirit/Ruach;

to fill them and fire them up.

His Torah/Word is no longer written on stone but in their,

and our,

hearts of flesh.

He is the living Torah, the living Word made flesh and is still living amongst us.

Knowledge is not the end goal here in these posts… but Relationship is.

Knowledge and understanding, are simply an aid to a deeper understanding of the One who gave His life for us.

This Shavuot /Pentecost allow the Ruach/Spirit of Holy Fire to do His complete work in us that we become vessels fit for the Masters use.

The purpose being that so many more souls are added to His kingdom.

As we are climbing the mountains with Him following His lead know we are soon leaving for home too. It’s possible that when He said earlier meet me in Galilee it was also related to meet me in the kingdom of God because Galilee was a home where the meeting could go on without any distraction! Did Yeshua/Jesus choose Galilee to show them how they would also join Him in the Kingdom of God, the kingdom of His Heavens?

Keep your eyes upon Jesus/Yeshua.

Look full in His wonderful face

and the things of this world will grow strangely dim

in the light of His glory and grace.

Be ready… Look to the Son!

When we look at this do we see son rise or sun set?

Is There A Connection Between Vav VavVav and Faithful Talmidim?

Is There A Connection Between 6 66 and Faithful Disciples?

6 66 Not what we thought?

We saw in a previous post (link below) that 6 is the numerical value of the letter VAV in the Hebrew Alefbet,

https://www.minimannamoments.com/in-times-of-need-and-during-days-of-uncertainty-whos-got-our-vav/

and we are no doubt aware of the inference to the multiple of it as 666 from the reference in Revelation 13:17

Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is six hundred threescore and six.

In Revelation 13, The beast is identified as the number of a man and gave these numbers as the name of the antichrist. Meaning: The one against Christ – christ means anointed, so it is against the anointing. It is referring to more than just one individual as it’s a spiritual influence that is totally opposed to His Holy Spirit/Ruach HaKodesh, the living God/YHVH and Jesus/Yeshua Messiah. This spiritual influence was already in the world back in the days Jesus/Yeshua was here.

It is anti messiah/anti anointing and part of the beast system in the worlds matrix/construct.

We must understand that since the time of the Early Church up until now, the spirit of Antichrist has already been at work, preparing the way for the Antichrist to take center stage, lawlessness is already at work. (2 Thessalonians 2:7).

And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. 1 John 4:3

What ever is opposed to Gods’ ways, is antichrist in spirit, influence and action.

When the reference system of chapter and the verses were added as an aid to the Scriptures it was not without interesting assignments of the numbers. Notice for example, how many scriptures with the reference 3:16 in different books are significant in their content.

Most famous being John 3:16.

For a list of all the 3:16’s click link below:

https://www.minimannamoments.com/316-2/

So what is the connection between a faithful talmidim/true disciple and 666?

תלמידם  – TALMIDIM – [tal-mee-DEEM] – Disciples

As we know, nothing in the Word of God is there by coincidence, so it is a noteworthy comment that a particular scripture in John’s gospel has these specific numbers as its reference.

666 vav vav vav

6 in Hebrew has a meaning of the number for man/humans and is used for both the letter W and V.

The letter Waw/Vav is the sixth letter of the Aleph-Bet/ alef-beis, having the numeric value of six.

The pictograph for Vav looks like a tent peg, whereas the classical Hebrew script (ketav Ashurit) is constructed of a vertical line and conjoined Yod.

The meaning of the word vav is “hook,” as a connecting hook used when the mishkan (tabernacle) was assembled.

In the Bible, the number 6 symbolizes man and human weakness, the evils of Satan and the manifestation of sin. As such, it represents “Adamic man,” who was created in Genesis 2.

Man was created on the sixth day. Men are appointed 6 days to labor. A Hebrew slave was to serve six years and be released in the 7th year.

If you are new to mmm link below for the pictographs:

https://www.minimannamoments.com/ancient-pictographic-hebrew-language/

We could see it then as a triple point being made to humanity, especially in relation to the subject content of the verse here in John, which is also a very critical scripture.

John 6:66

From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

The number of this 6.66 beast causes listeners to scoff and not believe in truth when spoken, and its name is backsliding, giving up… however as talmidim, we are called to

endure to the end…

John 6:66 in Context from 6:53

6:53 Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.

54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

55 For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed.

56 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.

57 As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me.

58 This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.”

59 These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum.

Many Disciples Turn Away.

Then said Jesus to the twelve, Will ye also go away? John 6:67

60 Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this, said, “This is a hard saying; who can understand it?”

63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. 64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.

They went away backwards!

His teachings were just too hard for them to accept and believe. The direction here is backward, not simply stopping where they were, but they reversed their position; losing anything they may have gained by having been in His presence.

When what He requires of us does not fit our paradigm, when it is too inconvenient, or may cause discomfort and interrupt our daily routine, are we any different from the grumbler’s? Do we say it is too hard a thing for us to do?

They were disciples/talmidim and by the very definition of the word, they were used to discipline. Yes, some of His sayings were hard so hard they left off from following Him..

It makes one wonder, where do we get this picture that following Jesus/Yeshua and being a ‘Christian’, is like a picnic on a sunny day with everything absolutely perfect, skipping through flower filled meadows with birds singing, animals frolicking in springtime youthful play? So much of our thinking is pure fantasy and not based on the reality of His Word, especially Messiahs words. We project the love side/ aspect almost with a bias and neglect the seriousness of the scriptural issues at stake. He said, in this world you will have tribulation. It is part of our training, in order to build up our faith, so if we are not experiencing tests and trials then it would seem we are not being trained. That is why we are to rejoice….we are maturing!

James 1:2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, a whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

We are in a battle, a fight for life itself, eternal souls are in the balance and the Way, His WAY is narrow, the way is hard, it is uphill, the path is steep, that road is full of pitfalls and we need Him every step of this Way.

No wonder He said few there are that find it.

So we must need to look because He said those that seek Me will find Me. Prov. 8:17

When? How?

When we seek/ look for Him with our whole heart.

Chevarim and Mishpachah, we are in perilous times

BUT we are NOT to fear… He said they would come.

2 Timothy 3 (NKJV) Perilous Times and Perilous Men. 3 But know this, that in the last days [] perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, [] unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

None of this life in the Spirit is automatic and being saved is not an end in itself,

it is the start of a new life with His spirit within.

Yeshua/Jesus says we must stop living to protect the life of the flesh. It’s not the real us, and it cannot be redeemed; it can only be quickened to accommodate our walk spiritually.

Being filled with His Spirit is not an end, it’s the power to walk the WAY/Derekh, it’s the strength to follow Him and to find that ancient path of holiness. We are a peculiar people, set apart, we are to be in contrast to the world. We are not to be absorbed into it but separate from it and willingly embrace the hard sayings. Don’t be seduced and don’t succumb to the 6 66 and end up following Him no more.

In John 6:53-59 He was referencing the tabernacle /Mishkan and the eating of the showbread of His presence, and the Passover lamb of unleavened bread and 4 cups of the Seder meal.

He was saying.. I am here to fulfill this appointed time, I am the Passover lamb, THE sacrifice to take away all sin.

The ones who left Him may have been confused, because cannibalism was very evident in many pagan worship rituals 2000+ years ago; and some of the listeners may have thought mistakenly, He was meaning to literally eat Him.

And they did not comprehend what He meant, for in their minds, how could what He said be possible? Firstly, that He was alive and secondly, that He was saying He was from heaven… to them, the facts did not add up.

Confusion is a great tool of the enemy, it causes many to fall away through lack of clarity and understanding. Let’s not be of those who fall away for any reason, but of those who press on, like Paul, to the prize of the high-calling.

If we don’t believe or think tests, trials and hardships are what we are supposed to experience in life. Read what happened to all the apostles and disciples. Only John lived a full life, all the others were killed for their faith. Pauls life as an apostle/ a sent one, to the Gentiles, was a series of horrific events. Recorded in 2 Corinthians 11:25.

Paul’s ship sinks on the way to Rome.

Those whose lives bear hardship and trials seem to be those whose lives are dedicated to His calling. Compare any of the apostles to today’s ministries. There’s something very inconsistent with the Scriptures and the modern western lifestyles. When compared with the true church/ ecclesia we must be discerning as we follow Him along the narrow way that leads to the dalet, the door, Yeshua/Jesus. Through Him, we enter everlasting life and like the camel through the eye of the needle, whose load had to be removed before it could go through the small door into the city. We too must off load all that we carry unnecessarily and lay it down, as well as all the burdens that prevent us following Him whole heartedly.

John 6:66 (Context.)

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. 64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.

This should give us pause for thought, for He knows the intent of our hearts whatever we say or do to those around us.

Another more positive angle on 666 is the numerical value of the letters vav vav vav; when added together = 18 which is the same value of the letters for chai – the Hebrew word for life.

Chet (ח) and Yud (י)

חי

which signifies life and represents being alive.

There is life/chai/18 in 6.66 when we don’t reject His hard sayings and ways.

In John 6:66 The word, Talmidim/disciples, meaning students.

This is not a reference to His inner circle of 12 men; or of the 12 apostles, for they are distinguished from these in the next verse; nor any of the 70 disciples, for their names were written in heaven, and could not apostatize totally and finally, as these did.

For we read that John spoke up…

He and the others knew Messiah had the words of eternal life..

It is referring to some of the multitude of the disciples, who followed Messiah, heard Him, and professed to believe in Him, and were baptized in His name, but were not true disciples, only nominal ones.

They withdrew themselves from His ministry, they dropped their profession of faith in Him, and relinquished Him as a Savior and Redeemer and Lord: for when it became clear that He would not be made their king, or a temporal redeemer; and then talking of Himself as the bread of life, and of coming to Him, in a sense they did not understand.

They turned their backs on Him; and as the words may be literally read,

returned to the things that were behind;

to the world, and to their old ways and old companions/habits, to satan and their own hearts lusts; like the dog to its vomit, and the swine to its wallowing in the mire: their true picture is drawn, in the parable of the unclean spirit going out of the man, and returning, (Matthew 12:43).

this is why Paul says forget the things behind…if we focus on them they can lure us backwards…

And they returned to their previous teachers, the Scribes and Pharisees, and to the law of works, and to seek for righteousness by it; setting up their own righteousness, and not submitting to the righteousness of Jesus Christ/Yeshua HaMashiach; they looked back and drew back,

and walked no more with him;
never returned to Him anymore,

or went with Him from place to place as before:

never attended on His ministry again

or had any intimacy/friendship and fellowship with Him:

and so it commonly is with apostates who turn from the profession of Jesus Christ/Yeshua HaMashiach; they seldom or ever return, or are recovered; it is difficult, if not impossible, which is sometimes the case, to renew them again to repentance. Only He can touch their hearts as we pray for their teshuvah/repentance.

תלמידם. talmidim-

A plural Hebrew noun meaning “disciples” in its truest sense: those who leave family to study and follow the ways of their teacher [rabbi].

They study not only to learn what their teacher knows but to become the type of man their teacher is.

We are to endure to the end and this is the reason for the warning and why if we yield to 6.66 turn away and follow Him no more, it is more than likely those individuals will succumb to the 666 system that John spoke of in writing the Revelation of the resurrected Messiah Yeshua/Jesus.

From the time many of his disciples/talmidim went back and walked with Him no more.

It’s a moment of truth,

it’s the time when the rubber hits the road.

When the test of our commitment is proved, because when Our Father gives us a clear understanding of His will, by His spirit, through His word, 1John 1:7, we must walk in the light of it. We are constrained by love to abide by our decisions and commitment to do what we have said we will do, what we have promised the Lord in our covenant agreement. We do not swear in vain we are bound by oath.

If we know to do it and don’t, we will sink to a level of bondage that the Lord never had in mind for us.

The point of revealing, our personal apocalypse of who Messiah is, and the reality of His redemptive work in us has a profound effect, in that we should be so changed from our former self so as to be almost unrecognizable.

The Lord Jesus/Yeshua our Rabbi (teacher), in us – the hope of glory. If He is in us then it should be obvious in every aspect of our new creation reality.

Do people know you by your affiliation to Jesus/Yeshua or by some other imagery? What we present to the world and to others in it, is how we really want them to see and know us.

Is it by our designer clothes labels, what we wear. Do we buy the latest fashion to be the same as everyone else? Are we known by where we live or our status in the community, our belongings and our worldly prosperity and success in our chosen field, or are we workers in His vineyard, seeking His face, His kingdom and His pleasure.

Are our lives acceptable in His sight?

Acts 26:19 is a key.

If we are mentally disobeying the heavenly vision it will make us a slave to ideas and to viewpoints that are completely at odds to those of Jesus/Yeshua. We as disciples, are not to look at others and say. If he/she can prosper with those views/ beliefs why can’t I?

We must walk in the light on the revealing/ the vision/ the picture that has been given to us and not compare it with those of others. If we find that one of our favorite and strongly held beliefs or views on things clashes with the heavenly vision. i.e.

That which has been revealed to us in scripture and what is truth and righteousness in all its ways, we must not begin to argue and bend His scriptures to fit our personal dreams, desires and goals.

The moment we do that we will fall into one of the snares of the devil, which is the pride of life, a sense of prosperity and personal rights/ of entitlement/ will surface in us and these are the things that Jesus/Yeshua placed no value on, as He indicated to the rich young ruler. These are the works that will be burned up, they are wood hay and stubble.

In fact these things are the root foundation of everything foreign to Him and His life and He was opposed to them in every way.

Luke 12:15 He said, one’s life does not consist of the abundance of possessions.

If we don’t see or understand this, it is because we are choosing to ignore the foundational principles of His teaching and many even say I don’t want that for my life, but I want this, I want to do that, I want my own way.

We tend to lie back and relax, leaning on the memory of wonderful experiences of the past, when His will was first revealed to us. However if these standards of discipleship have been revealed to us by His light and we don’t try to measure up to them, or even feel the need to have a desire to do so – then we begin to backslide. The movement of a walk is by its very nature/essence a movement forward, it’s action, not static or reverse.

And it means our conscience does not respond to the truth, the choice to respond is left to our free will. We can never be the same after the unveiling of a truth, when personal apocalypse comes, there has to be a reaction; and all actions have consequences and future outcomes, either directly or indirectly.

This moment in time shines His light upon us and He marks us as a disciple, we either continue and press forward with even more zeal and devotion; or as someone who walked with Him no more, turn to go backwards.

In our lives:

Turmoil/Ra comes from reacting to people.

Peace/Shalom is born of response to His Spirit.

Darkness is always related to light – the one always follows the other.

God/YHWH/Yehoveh, made the evening and the morning and called it day.

Our experience is a daily combination of evening and morning darkness and light

We go to sleep/ rest as the darkness comes and rise into the light in the morning

Psalm 139:12

Darkness and light are all the same to God – this is because His light penetrates the darkness and as we walk by faith and allow His light in, the darkness will flee.

So the connection to a true disciple is found in the scripture John 6:66

666 From the time many of His disciples/talmidim went back and walked with Him no more.

The antichrist spirit influences humanity in three areas, the world, the flesh, the devil! against our spirits, souls and bodies, which is why this Scripture 1 Thess. 5:23 is important.

Days are coming when people are going to see the unbelievable and hear of truths that have been hidden from the public view. Jesus/Yeshua warned us that peoples hearts would fail them for fear of seeing things coming upon the earth…

What will we do?

Who will we believe and who will we follow??

Will hard sayings and our physical senses cause us to follow Him no longer?

There are 4 options:

Are we walking towards Him,

or away from Him

or are we walking WITH Him

The only WAY we should see this direction

is if we are following Him

or are we

between 2 minds?

“How long halt ye between two opinions?” (I Kings 18:21).

These are the words of the prophet Elijah. They were spoken to a large group of people on Mount Carmel. They had departed from God.

Elijah warned the people to make a choice

1 Kings 18:21 The term “halt you” in the King James’ Version (“falter,” NKJV) provides a literal picture of what Elijah means.

It suggests a person staggering, unable to catch his balance, and failing to accomplish anything of any consequence because his mind is divided.

The person in such a circumstance cannot get a grip on life. These people were wavering back and forth, which the scriptures record was typical of the Israelites. The Bible shows in many places that the people continued to worship God, yet also served their idols

Essentially, they tried to worship both the true God and pagan idols, which suggests a divided mind. “No man can serve two masters; for . . . he will hate the one and love the other” (Matthew 6:24). But the one that he hates is still a part of his mind, and it will cause problems.

In Elijah’s word-picture, he is indicating that though nothing is wrong with the rest of the body, because the mind has no focus, the body’s efforts have no direction. This sets up a situation where, at best, there will be little movement—that is, little accomplished—and at worst, there will be no forward movement at all, but just staggering, first this way then that. That sort of situation produces nothing.

Elijah is quite instructive here. He began to prophesy in a time of immediate crisis, one that would become far worse before it ever improved. There was tremendous evil to overcome. His ministry took place about 150 years before Israel was to fall, becoming the Lost Ten Tribes, so God was beginning to make a powerful witness to them. Elijah’s work was to reveal the true God to Israel in a time of growing national crisis. (sound familiar?)

Elijah prepared the way for Elisha, who had a double portion of Elijah’s spirit and did many more miracles. In this regard, Elijah was a type of John the Baptist, and Elisha, a type of JesusYeshua. God’s pattern is being established. He sends someone long before the real crisis reaches its peak, while it is building.

Elijah says disturbing things. This is a prophet’s job, a hallmark of a prophet of God. People like to feel comfortable. The only trouble is that people like to feel comfortable in moral mediocrity. They become “settled on their lees,” as it says in Zephaniah 1:12.

The prophet comes along and troubles people by awakening them to their sins, making them feel guilty about their relationships with God and each other. He awakens them to their spiritual and moral responsibilities. These Israelites were lethargic in terms of true, spiritual matters.

When an individual is freezing to death, he feels a pleasant numbness that he does not want to end, so he just goes to sleep as he is freezing to death. However, when heat is applied, and blood begins rushing into the affected areas, pain immediately occurs. Even though it hurts, the pain is indicative of rescue and cure. God sends a prophet to people who have become cold in their relationship with Him, like they are spiritually freezing to death, and although they want to stay that way, the prophet turns the heat up, and so they become angry with him, often accusing him of causing their pain, when he is actually working to reverse their condition.

A prophet’s life is never a happy situation Jeremiah is an example of this, he moaned and complained to God,

“This is more difficult than You ever told me it would be.”

He didn’t like the position God put him in and wanted people to like him. However, he was faithful and did his job even though he was in trouble his whole life.

There are several ideas as to exactly what Elijah meant by How long will you falter between two opinions? One is that he likens them to a bird in a tree that cannot make up its mind where it wants to settle down, so it just keeps hopping around.

How long are you going to hop from branch to branch?

Another idea is that it pictures a person shifting his weight from one foot to the other, indicating a degree of lameness.

A third is that he is describing somebody teetering on a tightrope and trying to maintain his balance.

Whatever the case, there is no doubt about Elijah’s intent: “How long will you keep shifting from one opinion to the other?” Their spiritual lethargy for the true God made them uncommitted. Their commitment went one way, and then it went the other way.

Once Elijah began preaching, their conscience pricked them, and it encouraged them to worship the true God. But their carnality and their fear of men persuaded them to worship Baal, because they wanted to be friends with their fellow Israelites. They were straddling the fence in a precarious state of imbalance, attempting to combine the worship of God with the more popular worship of Baal and Asherah but it will not work.

When Elijah preached his message, it put the people in a bind because they knew their conscience was telling them that they had to commit themselves to God or to Baal. It disturbed them. Only the individual could decide which side he would be on, because Elijah made it clear, God does not want you the way you are. Either you are going to be committed to Him or not. If you will not be committed to Him, you are going to die.”

This indeed was a hard saying!

The lesson for us becomes clear, because Jesus/Yeshua says the same thing in Matthew 6:24; 12:25. The Sovereign Creator is not a God who allows His favor to be bought. He is a loving Master who only is to be simply obeyed and served – and only on His terms/covenant which we often fail to understand.

The devil never lets men halt if he can help it. That is the last thing he would ever think of doing. He keeps them so fully occupied, and so on the go, driving hard for the things of the world and of the flesh, that they have not time to halt. It is hard to get them to listen for 2 minutes because he pushes them in business, pleasure, family, consequences, anything that will take their/our attention.

We have heard the references to the days of Elijah

אֵלִיָּהוּ

Eliyahu

This name is written two different ways – אליה,

pronounced as eliy-yahu

or

אליהו, pronounced as eliy-yahu / ay-lee-yaw’-hoo

meaning, My God is Yahweh /YHWH.

In Malachi 4:5  I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful Day of the LORD. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.

(He may have been referring to John/ Yochanan’s ministry)

and

because of that scripture in Jesus/Yeshuas day, they thought John the Baptist was Elijah returned.

In Matt 17:12 Jesus said: But I say to you, behold, Elijah has come, and they did not know him, and they have done unto him everything whatsoever they wished;

We think of John as the metaphorical Elijah, or re reading Messiah’s words, it may have been Elijahs spirit in Johns flesh body as in the same way we read Elisha had a double portion of Elijahs spirit!? Interesting concept…. as there is much we do not understand regarding spiritual matters and this generation is probably about to get a wake up call concerning what is real and what is not! God is God and He can do whatever He pleases. We limit Him by the parameters of our own understanding and reduce Him to mortal abilities and finite actions.

John called people to repentance and a life of obedience, preparing the people of his generation for the coming of the Messiah Jesus/Yeshua, the One who had come

to seek and to save what was lost. (Luke 19:10)

and to establish the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18).

The days of Elijah were days of upheaval trials famine darkness and war, yet it was also preparing the WAY of the Lord…we are here again Gods pattern comes full circle and days of repentance

We are the voices crying in the wilderness we are the voice of the yovel calling for repentance and salvation…

Lets continue to prepare ourselves for Shavuot so His fire may fall on us and that we are so filled with His Holiness that all within us that is not of His spirit is consumed.

Then all that remains are vessels full of His Light, His Glory; and His sayings will not be so hard that we will follow Him no more – but rather be the beacon of hope to the world in darkness, the light on the hill, the burning lamp whose oil will not fail. Why? Because we are filled with all the fullness of His presence continually and people will see Jesus/Yeshua, the Light of the world in us.

Next time we see or hear 666 lets remember John 6.66 and whose we are and who we serve!

Remember He said…

It Has Been Said We Are The Elijah Generation…If we are then we are in for a wild and serious ride……

Shalom shalom mishpachah/family and cheverim/friends! You are loved and appreciated and prayed for daily.

Who or What is the Mystery of the Choter? or is it Both?

Why is any of this important?

Why do we need to focus on these things?

Simply because we have grown up with a western based Christianity with a primarily Greek mindset. We focus more on the Renewed Covenant /New Testament and neglect the Old where our true roots are to be found, beyond the Greco/roman church doctrines and dogmas. These, at best, have forgotten, or at worst ignore and even deny the essential roots of the faith in a Messianic Savior. This Messianic Savior who was from the tribe of Israel and whose ancestors trace back to Adam through Jacob, Isaac, Abraham, Moses, et al.

We are reminded to include the whole of God’s Word, not just the bits we like or make us feel good.

The particulars of God’s Word are of utmost importance, even the very words (2 Timothy 2:15), but we must study to understand the words in their context and in light of the whole counsel of God: “For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God” (Acts 20:27).

Everything ultimately points to Jesus/Yeshua and to see Him in all the details of all the scriptures is the wonder of His Living Word. And it should bring us not only delight and great joy; but serve to support the faith and trust in the God whose design is perfect in every aspect of His creation.

The One who took the time to put it in a form that we can read, see and comprehend the miracle that we are and to choose the unsurpassed and incomparable offer of forgiveness/redemption/salvation; which He has made to those called according to His purpose.

The reason we are to study to show ourselves approved, is that by so doing, we come to know Him and the power of His resurrection; as Paul said in Phil.3:10.

These posts, hopefully, are an aid for those with limited time and resources, to be able to enjoy the revealing that Daniel spoke of in the future days. These are those in which we are privileged to be alive! That the prophets desired to see. 1Peter 1:12

We know the familiar stories and yet we still see through a glass darkly, however as we dig together, He continually reveals more of Himself by Ruach HaKodesh to those whose desires are truly toward Him.

חֹטֵר

choter
Phonetic Spelling: (kho’-ter)
Definition: branch or twig, a rod

Choter is a Hebrew word for branch, rod, offshoot or twig and here in 11:1 Isaiah uses it prophetically.

Any interpretation of prophecy by its very nature is both mysterious and miraculous, because the very boundaries of time and eternity were crossed in that moment when our Heavenly Father told us the future before it was ever lived; and realizing this can leave us with the feeling of having touched eternity.

Choter or sometimes spelled Hoter; it is pronounced Koter and the letters CH sound hard like a K, and it’s only found 2 x in this form in scripture. The word choter/hoter,  meaning branch or twig. We can see that the literal meaning leads to a more metaphorical one.

Confusion and misunderstanding come in translations from the original language because more than twenty different Hebrew and Greek words are used to connote this growth; they have been translated variously as a branch, shoot, sprout, tendril, or twig; and include Natser, Netzer, semah, sheresh, Anaph branch, to name a few.

נצר H5342 Netser

There are 11 verses with the branch as a type and 118 occurrences in 14 translations.

Also the Hebrew word for Staff is matteh (masculine), and can be pronounced either mat-teh or mat-tah. It is defined as a branch, tribe, rod, staff, or standard (4294); as in Aarons staff which budded!

For this post we will look specifically at Hoter/Choter and two other Hebrew words which are also translated branch. Netser refers to young branches or sprouts.

The imagery of stumps, roots, shoots, and branches is Messianic and reappears throughout the prophets, especially in Isaiah and Jeremiah.

Tsemakh is a noun that comes from the Hebrew verb for sprouting or shooting.

Tsemakh

The verb is often used in connection with these messianic names and links with other names for example in Jer. 23:5-6; 33:15-16; Zech. 3:8.

Netser Phonetic Spelling: nay’-tser

נֵצֶר

Strongs #: 5342

Bible reference: Isa. 11:1

A shoot [khoter] will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.

Strong’s Concordance number: 6780

Bible references: Zech. 3:8; 6:12

Listen, High Priest Joshua, you and your associates seated before you, who are men symbolic of things to come: I am going to bring my servant, the Branch.

Two similar prophetic names of Jesus/Yeshua, are the Branch of the Lord and the Righteous Branch -Tsemakh tsedaqah. Zechariah connected the messianic term with the role of the servant of the Lord.

The two Hebrew words for Branch are obviously interchanged. One is tsemach (transliterated zemach), and used in all the verses for branch except the major messianic link in Isaiah 11:1 and 2 others, 1 in Isaiah and 1 in Daniel; where natser, (transliterated Nazer) is found. Jesus/Yeshua is called this latter word literally. The hometown of Jesus/Yeshua is Nazareth (Fem. plural of Nazer is Nazeroth).

We can understand further meaning in prophesy from the literal meaning of the actual text in the Hebrew language, that which defies the rules of normal translation. These instances are usually associated with an ironic play on words.

This is the use of double meaning/double entendre; or a similarity in sound and meaning, that continues the idea in the context of a passage as the form of the word may continue to be used in the passage to carry along what is being spoken about.

Even though the subtlety of the use of play on words is lost in translation it should not be thought of as useless decoration. It is a part of the inspired thought processes and in at least one case, it is a vehicle of miraculous revelation.

Branch of the Lord.

Note For New Readers:

The point of this post is not to focus on which word, or the variations of how its spelled, and which is correct; but is rather for the meaning and application to our lives as we follow Jesus our Messiah in the WAY; which is the real aim and goal of mmm.

Just reading about a subject will not do much good if we don’t think on its application to us personally and then prayerfully apply that revealed knowledge to our life and ministry.

The Words of scripture are living and alive and need to be living and alive in us if we are to grow and mature and flower and bear fruit.

All these metaphors, allegories and parables are more than stories and information, they are the meat of the Word that feeds us.

Milk and Meat.

A perfect metaphor for the degrees of maturity required to partake of spiritual food analogous to that required for physical food. It is important that we know where to begin with the milk of God’s word, and that we recognized the necessity for growth in understanding the milk so that we can go on to understand the meat.

1Cor. 3:2

As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ.

Eph 4:13-15

In Isaiah 11:1 both the words

Choter חטֶר

and

Natser נצר

are together in the same verse.

Natser/Netzer is another Hebrew word for branch.

There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.

Significantly it is in context with a prophetic declaration of One Who will come in the future that will be known as a Branch and will also ‘function’ as a Branch.

From Isaiah 11:1 There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his Roots.

חטֶר

One definition of this word is: of any division extending like a branch; any arm or part connected with the main body of thing;

Isaiah’s use of the Hebrew word nazer or branch and of nazeroth which is obviously identical with Nazareth in form;(simply remove the vowels). Isaiah uses other related forms of the same word which have meaning when seeing them in their connection to Nazarene fulfillment of that which was spoken by the prophets.

It was not uncommon for the prophets to depict the Messiah as a new shoot or branch growing from David’s stock, even though that tree would be cutoff. Isaiah proclaims that a shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse.

Messiah came into the world as a child, a baby, it could be said from the genealogy recorded in Matthew, He was a tiny shoot from an old sawed-off stump. God brings amazing new things out of old stumps!!!

Jesus/Yeshua fulfilled the prophecies about the branch by springing up from David and the tribe of Judah to become the Priest-king of the Kingdom of God.

Real Facts that help us understand/digest the Scriptures: Indigenous to Israel, there is a tree that is practically indestructible even when chopped and cut down, new trees grow from the shoots that sprout from the stump, the base and root system. Even when it is burned, regrowth quickly starts from the roots and brings forth new branches.

This is the olive tree and it has a complex root system that is particularly strong and symbolizes a strong grip on the ground. These roots can find their way through cracks in rocks as they search for deep sources of water.

In Israel, olive trees flower in the spring when temps reach 70 degrees F. and will not flower before 5 years of age.

In all these descriptions note the details that bear reflection upon the characteristics that should be in the life of a disciple!

The olive tree is another one most frequently mentioned in the Bible. Scripture writers used olive tree imagery to describe Jesus/Yeshuas’ roots in the tribe of Judah and the relationship of Jews and Gentiles. Jesus/Yeshua also uses the analogy of the relationship of the Grapevine to the branches, to describe His relationship with His disciples:

“I am the vine; you are the branches” John 5:15.

The branches derive their very existence and ability to produce fruit from the vine. Detached, the branches cease to live or produce. Likewise, apart from Jesus/Yeshua, an individual does not have either spiritual life or fruit.

When an olive tree is very old;

(often reaching ages of hundreds and some even 1,000’s of years growth;) and having reached its maximum yield, It is common for farmers to cut it down to improve its future growth.

Before long, new shoots emerge from the old stump, and the tree begins once again to produce olives.

This aspect of the olive tree provides an image of Isaiah’s prophecy,

‘A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from His roots a Branch will bear fruit’ (Isa. 11:1).

As a descendant of David, Jesus//Yeshua was the shoot from the stump of Jesse (David’s father).

The word has a great variety of possible translations and it is linked to Nazarene, Nazarenes, or Nazareth and is translated: keep, keeping, kept, watchman, watchers, besieged, preserve, preserver, subtle, hidden things, monuments, and BRANCH.

In most scriptures it’s translated as: keep, in the sense of guarding and keeping something safe.

It is translated three times as branch in Isaiah and one time in Daniel.

When Isaiah uses the word it must at least raise a curious interest for the believer. Due to the possibility of play on words or double meaning in contexts that are obviously messianic: it is an amazing reference to Jesus/Yeshua.

It is certain that they point to Jesus/Yeshua as the Messiah because of His connection with Nazareth and because Here also was a virgin named Miriam/Mary.

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin‘s name was Mary. (Lk. 1:26-27)

He is called the Nazarene in Matthew 2:23. And He came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

Orthodox Jews will not mention Jesus/Yeshuas name and they certainly will not call Him Christ /Messiah since calling Him Christ/Messiah, would be a confession of what they do not yet believe.

He is most often referred to by Orthodox Jewish scholars as The Nazarene. In Hebrew. Notsri;

נוצרי

There is apparently no word in the modern Hebrew language corresponding to the word Christian; so Christians are referred to as: the Nazarenes or Notsriym,

The Nazarene literally means:

the one who is the branch!

Consequently His name is The Branch, literally fulfilling this prophecy and amazingly so called, even by those who believe in Him the least.

Israel tour guides have been known to lead tourists to stand next to an ancient Olive Tree.

Then they point to the bottom of the tree, where new shoots come up from the ground, and say for example:

This town is called Nazareth and the root of that word is netzer. These shoots coming up out of the ground are called netzers.

Obviously Jewish tour guides don’t recognize the significance of this word however, However, it’s clear to those who know Jesus/Yeshua as Messiah.

Nazareth today, above and an old picture below.

Here in the town where some of the people from the line of David had resettled after exile, is also where Jesus/Yeshua grew up, the prophesied (Is. 11:1) shoot

The English word for netzer emerged from the root of Jesse (David’s father).

Here the Root of Jesse is written in Hebrew, Shoresh Yishai.

Jesus/Yeshuas own words in His prayer in John 17:

“That all of them may be ONE, Father…”

is foundational to understanding the purpose of Netzer.

The warning words of the Prophets had been realized, the tree had been felled and all hope had been dashed, and the kingdom that once was had been broken in two. God’s promise to David (son of Jesse), of an heir who would reign forever, had apparently failed.

Or had it?

What do we SEE?

Connection Link to previous post below:

Then a shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse,
and a branch from his roots will bear fruit.

The tree was the kingdom of Israel, which had been divided into two, Israel and Judah, after Solomon departed the scene. Israel, the northern kingdom, was about to be carried off into captivity by Assyria. That was the prophecy of earlier chapters. However, a remnant of Israel would return from exile, but only a remnant, and would turn to the LORD in faith.

Then Isaiah spoke of an “anointing” that would lift the burden of the oppressor off their shoulders and would completely destroy the yoke from off their neck; Isaiah 10:27. The power of the enemy would be broken. And then, a shoot would grow from the stump of Jesse.

A remnant and a shoot, it seems so little, so small and yet, that is so often how God does His work. Indeed, in Zechariah 4:10, He says, Do not despise these small beginnings.

As the Old Testament frequently notes; e.g. in Jer. 11:16, Hosea 14:6, the olive tree is beautiful.

The faithful followers of God/Jesus/Yeshua, are compared to vigorous olive trees, and their children are said to be like the shoots that appear at the tree’s roots, guaranteeing its survival and future generations.

In Rom. 11:11-24, the New Testament uses olive trees to help illustrate the plan of salvation and Paul describes ‘Christians’ as either natural olive branches, those of Hebrew/Israeli background, or olive branches that have been grafted onto Jesus/Yeshua, those who are heathen/Goyim/Gentiles.

As branches grafted into Jesus/Yeshua, ‘Christians’ will only bear fruit if we are attached to and have a personal relationship with Him and are walking in His WAY.

In the same chapter Paul draws attention to grafting a branch into a stock. It was usual for a farmer to take a wild root or stock and graft into it a cultivated scion.

That was not the case with Israel, the cultivated olive tree; the branches broken off were replaced by wild olive shoots, in other words, Gentile believers. When the Deliverer from Zion comes, however, it will be easy for Hm to restore Israel to its rightful position (vs. 25-27).

The olive tree provides an excellent lesson for non Jewish disciples.

Because Jesus/Yeshua was rejected as Messiah, God cut many Jewish branches down, however,

He did not uproot the tree.

The shoot of Jesus/Yeshua and the branches of His Gentile followers grew from a Jewish stump. As His followers/disciples, we are branches growing from Jewish roots.

The picture of the olive tree is a constant reminder that Jesus/Yeshua is our source of life; our branch springs from Jewish roots. The beautiful olive tree reminds us of God’s eternal plan of salvation and His expectation that all His branches will bear abundant fruit.

Branch is capitalized six times in the Old Testament inferring the understanding of a title name. The Hebrew word used in five of them, semah, simply means sprout, growth, or branch.

The remaining occurrence has the word hoter, meaning: branch or twig…..

As usual the post ‘grew’ in length while assembling!

Both the conclusion and paleo pictograph meaning coming in part 2.

What’s The Connection Between Almonds and Olive Oil with Messiah and Lamp stands? Part 2

We left Part 1 with the question:

Why were they told to make the Menorah with shape of almond blossom and not olives, vines or figs???

Scripture records that the pattern for the Menorah was given by God to Moses and almonds have specific meaning which was understood. We have seen the connection between the almond shaped receptacle for the olive oil at the top of each branch of the menorah. Only the Priest could tend the wicks and light them.

The next connection to Almonds was the Rod of Aaron:

Numbers 17:8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

8 Now on the next day Moses went into the tent of the testimony; and behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi had sprouted and put forth buds and produced blossoms, and it bore ripe almonds. 9 Moses then brought out all the rods from the presence of the LORD to all the sons of Israel; and they looked, and each man took his rod.

Aaron’s Rod not only leafed out the next day, it also had flower buds, flowers, and even ripe almonds on the same stick! (Numbers 17:8).

Num. 17:1-5 God spoke to Moses: “Speak to the People of Israel. Get staffs from them—twelve staffs in all, one from the leader of each of their ancestral tribes. Write each man’s name on his staff. Start with Aaron; write Aaron’s name on the staff of Levi and then proceed with the rest, a staff for the leader of each ancestral tribe.”

The man’s name written on the sticks showed that it was the original one, but the growth in various stages of maturity also proves that no one had cut an almond branch and put it in its place.

Sometimes tribes are called Shevatim, which also means: supple BRANCH (still attached to the tree); sometimes they are called Matot, which means hard stick, cut off from the tree.

Although obvious that branches are alive and supple and growing when still attached to the tree and draw their strength from it and its roots; it must be noted that as we are grafted in, we too must stay connected to the tree of life. In our case this is Messiah Jesus/Yeshua HaMashiach, in order to stay alive and grow.

Aaron had his own staff. And it was Aaron’s staff which became a “serpent” before Pharaoh and which swallowed up the “serpents” of the magicians (Exodus 7:9-12).

Possible symbolic prophetic meaning that death would be swallowed up in life.

The spiritual shown subduing and overcoming the natural. The Creator shown superior over His creation – good triumphing over evil.

Aarons staff was from the almond tree and every tree bears the fruit God created it to produce.

In Ex. 25:31-36 The golden candlestick is recorded and in Isaiah 11:1 the prophetic word declared that…

A shoot, rod or branch (cutting) is how olive trees are reproduced. Just as we are grafted in to Him and He reproduces Himself in us.

1 A shoot (rod) will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots a BRANCH will bear fruit.
The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—
the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might,
the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—
and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.

He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes,
    or decide by what he hears with his ears;

but with righteousness he will judge the needy,
with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth.
He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth;
with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.
Righteousness will be his belt
and faithfulness the sash around his waist.

The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD

Here the 7 Spirits of God are listed right along side the BRANCH connecting them there are 7 lamps and there is a confirming reference by John in Rev 4:5 – 7 lamps – 7 spirits.

Num 17:8-10; Jer 1:11-12

Has similar language

The budding of the staff/literally the BRANCH of an almond tree, is symbolic of resurrection life and fullness of God

and is typified in three elements connected to the menorah.

The Bud

the Flower

and

the Fruit.

See chart below for other symbolism.

The Priest is a picture of Yeshua/Jesus and represents man to God.

The Budding is a picture that assures us that HE IS our High Priest.

Apocalypse of the menorah – (revealing the meaning) – and the significance of the almond tree.

The shape reminds the onlooker of a flowering tree of life.

The Menorah was made from 1 piece and resembling a tree with branches, tradition says it also represents the tree of life that was present in the beginning – Beresheet.

The Tree of Life is in the Beginning – Genesis and at the end – Revelation.

On each of the six side arms were 3 golden almond blossoms and together with the 4 on the center shaft, there were exactly 22 almond blossoms. Between the 22 flowers, there are 21 connections. From the lowest flower to the top flower on the shaft to the 6 lamps, there are 3×8+3=27 connections, and together with the highest connection from the top flower on the shaft to the middle lamp, there are a total of 28 (4×7) connections. Together they are 50 parts + 7 lamps.

In Israel, toward the end of January, while the rest of the trees continue their winter slumber, the Almond Tree is the first to awaken to life and blooms.

Therefore, the white almond blossom is a symbol of life and purity.

God paid attention to the details from the very beginning; for He commanded that every single almond blossom on the Menorah should consist of three parts, namely, the cups, buds and blossoms (petals). Together they are 3 x 22=66 single flower parts.

The Menorah stood in the Tabernacle and in Solomon’s Temple. The Menorah also stood in the Temple of Herod in Jerusalem when Jesus was crucified.

The BIBLE: 7 parts, 49 scrolls with 66/70 books = the word of God = the light in this dark world.

Three of the many 7’s in Scripture:

7 Appointed Times

7 Spirits of God

7 Days of the week, etc.

Some symbolism meanings:

The pattern of the menorah was for 3 decorative cups to be on each of the 6 branches only on the main center branch was there to be 4 cups.

4 cups of the Passover meal! For the servant/shamash, was at the center of the Menorah.

The cups of the menorah remind the bride of the cups she drank during the marriage vows with her bridegroom at His Appointed Feasts, vowing to be His faithful bride.

The cups on the menorah and the branches were designed in the shape of open almond blossoms because as already noted, the almond tree represents first fruits and in Israel is the first tree to bloom after the winter. Just as we saw in song of Solomon.. the winter is past the spring has come she was watching for her beloved.

Jesus/Yeshua is the First Fruits from the dead and we are His first fruits. We like the rod of Aaron were dead outside of Jesus/Yeshua. When He redeemed us and was resurrected, then He raised us from death to life and we became His First Fruits. Ezek. 37:1-4

Was it also a reference to the burning bush or the almond tree or the type of sage that grows in Israel? Unless it is very clear, we don’t need to caught up too much in symbolism! However, there are some very clear ones with the blossoms and almond shapes.

How does an almond tree grow?

And what we can learn?

Today the temple of God is where He lives now, within the heart of the believer.

If believers do not know how to maintain the light of the menorah or preserve the bread of His presence, how will the bride know the timing of her wedding or be prepared to join her bridegroom?

The menorah is the only light in the Holy place.

Oil has been provided for the brides journey to light her way but, the oil can only be useful if the menorah has been maintained and the wicks are trimmed. Tended to daily by the priest.

Without the light the bride is unable to see the word, which is the bread of His presence and her path WAY Will be darkened. Maintaining the menorah will allow her to see clearly and find her way to her wedding.

The Lamp stand, the Menorah, represents the Messiah of Israel in John 8:12 Jesus said, I am the light of the world.

As the Bridegroom of Israel, He will light the path/WAY, to reveal the WAY of the bride.

The menorah is also a symbol of the brides mission.

As the Mishkan is to be made in the pattern given, when the bride walks in Jesus/Yeshua’s right ways, she will reflect His light to the nations. Isaiah 42:7

It is said that pure gold is one of the easiest metals to work with. It can be beaten into a transparent gold foil over 500 times thinner than the human hair. God required that the menorah was to be made using one piece of pure gold.

The cups of the menorah:

The pattern of the menorah required three decorative cups to be on each of the six branches extending from the lampstand.

The 3 cups of the six branches of the menorah are symbols which represent the commandment for the Israelites to come before the Lord at His Moedim/Appointed Times/ feasts, three times a year to worship Him. Deut. 16:16 – Devarim.

Only on the main shaft itself were there to be 4 cups. The cups on the menorah remind the bride of the cups she drank during the marriage vows with her bridegroom at His appointed feasts, vowing to be His faithful bride.

The first cup represents the cup of acceptance that the bride will drink at the first feast in the spring at the Passover and the 7 day Feast of Unleavened Bread.

The second cup represents the cup of betrothal the bride drinks at the second feast in late spring or early summer called the feast of Shavuot /Pentecost.

The third cup represents the cup the bride will drink at the 3rd Feast in the Autumn /Fall at the feast of Tabernacles/Sukkot. This will be the wedding (Yom Kippur/ atonement) and celebration cup at the wedding supper of the lamb. Sukkot/ tabernacles).

Only on the main shaft of the menorah, which is also called the branch, is there a 4th cup.

This BRANCH represents Messiah Jesus/Yeshua and the 4th cup represents the cup He drank on our behalf at His death – the cup of bitterness.

He took our cup in fulfillment of the law of jealousy, regarding a wife suspected of being unfaithful to her husband. Ex. 5:11-18; 25-28.

Believers are the ‘unfaithful bride’. In Jesus’s faithfulness to His bride and in fulfillment to the covenant He made with her, He took our cup and drank our judgment and our death upon Himself. This is the cup of judgment that sets us free and brought about our salvation and deliverance. Numbers 5:5 – 31; Luke 22:42.

The cups on the Menorah and the BRANCHES, were designed in the shape of open almond blossoms. The almond tree represents first fruits and as already noted, is the earliest tree to bloom after the winter in Israel. Jesus/Yeshua is the first fruits from the dead and we are His first fruits. We were dead (in our sins) outside of Jesus/Yeshua, when He redeemed us and raised us from death to life we became His first fruits. Ezek. 37:1–4.

The buds and blossoms of the menorah:

Gods’ pattern for the Menorah was to have buds and blossoms on the main branch as well as on the six branches. They were to be placed directly below the cups. These buds and blossoms represent how believers will start to bear seed and glorify Yeshua/Jesus bearing much fruit when they abide in His word. A solid piece of gold in the shape of a Menorah cannot stand on its own without some internal strength to support it.

Jesus/Yeshua has been tried and He is the living testimony, the true Menorah, the Light of the world. Only He can keep the covenant perfectly. His testimony is revealed in His Feasts/Appointed times/Moedim. He will be faithful to fulfill all that He has promised and appointed concerning His heirs.

The almond Blossom turns into fruit that contains an edible seed called a nut.

Almond in Hebrew is Shaqad (Strongs#H 8246 from the root verb Strongs# 8245) meaning to diligently watch.

Jeremiah 1:11 – 12

What do you see Jeremiah?

You have seen correctly for I am watching to see that My Word is fulfilled.

The bride is to diligently watch her ways, by rightly walking in His instructions and being obedient to His commandments as she eagerly waits for the return of her bridegroom, Jesus the Messiah/ Yeshua HaMashiach.

(Heres a reference back to the Song of Solomon 2:10–12.)

Notice the description begins at the base of the menorah and rises up through the description from the ground up from the earth to the heaven.

Base – shaft – knops and cups/blossoms in order.

When it begins before spring, the tree has only small buds on the branch, life is trying to push through.

It bends towards the light, receiving its’ nourishment from the stem to which it is attached; then the bud bursts into blossoms/flower and it gets its’ nutrients from the sun.

Then the blossom fades and falls away leaving a tiny green knop.

Even as a bud, technically it has within it the almond but that is not what we see. With continual feeding of the flower, it matures into the green shape of an almond, with a velvet like covering, which finally matures into a nut.

The outer shell is hard, pitted and tan in color. When fully ripe, inside this shell is the kernel or nut or fruit, which is protected from the elements.

It is always moving upwards to the light. Aarons rod showed all the stages of growth and had come to life.

When a branch is cut from a tree it loses its source of life and becomes a dead stick, a dead piece of almond wood that Aaron used as a staff to walk with; until it was submitted under the authority of God when it was imbued with new life and purpose.

This is just like our lives, death to life, everything with God is from death to life. This is symbolic of resurrection of coming back to life from death.

However, while the sacrifice of Jesus/Yeshua gives us atonement (כַּפָּרָה) with God, the resurrection of the Messiah (i.e., techiyat ha-Mashiach: תְּחִיַּת הַמָּשִׁיחַ) justifies His work of salvation on behalf of the sinner and forever vindicates the righteousness of God.

Techiyat HaMaitim – המתים תחיית –

The Resurrection Of The Dead

Interesting note: We have seen that the Almond tree blossoms first, before all other trees in the spring and yet, it will be the last to drop its leaves in the fall; while the Olive tree is the last fruit to be harvested in the fall.

The husbandman of the orchard watches carefully for the Almond trees to bloom and burst forth in color; it is the signal to begin pruning his Olive trees! Those pruned are interior branches hidden from the light that would produce no fruit. Soon these broken off branches, littering the ground will be gathered, bundled and burned!  The pruned tree can then reach for the sun, breathe and will spend the growing season developing good fruit.

At end of January /February, trees are clothed in spectacular white for only 2 weeks. It comes for a season and then its gone. Jesus’ resurrection is always likened to the blossoms of the almond tree and in 1Cor. 15:20-23 but now Christ is risen the first fruits!

Is the almond saying: this is how I am performing my word, He will die and will resurrect as the first fruits?

This interesting relationship between the Almond tree and the Olive tree illustrates our own relationship with the God of Israel – if we make the connections that exist between the Menorah of the Tabernacle….(described as an Almond Tree Ex 25:31-40) and the Oil for the Menorah which comes from the Olive Tree. This oil is to be brought to the Priest by the Children of Israel continually….(Ex 27:20).  In the natural earthly realm, the almond and olive trees represent the First and the Last to produce fruit.

In the spiritual realm, the inner intimate Holy Place of the Tabernacle – the almond tree and the oil come together and become one to produce and contain the light.

Helped by linen wicks, the olive oil in the almond-shaped cups bring forth the light that shines toward the bread, wine and incense on the table in the same room.

John 17:21.. that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.

According to John 6:29  … the ‘work’ of God is this: that you believe in Him whom He sent.

Oil represents both Word of Truth and Holy Spirit and it could be said that it is the work of the children of Israel to bring pure oil to keep the lamp of the tabernacle burning. (Ex 27:20)

They were to bring the pure olive oil representing Truth and Instruction of His Word (Torah) and the Holy Spirit (Ruach).  Jesus/Yeshua/The Word, said that we would… worship the Father in Spirit and Truth. (John 4:24)

When we think this through, we see that the gold Menorah shaped like an almond tree, together with the pure oil from the olives representing the Torah and Spirit; becomes symbolic of the burning bush/tree that would not consume itself.

Our God is a consuming fire to those who are not one with Him, and if we are one with Him will not be consumed. We can draw near and become one with Him because of the finished work of Messiah….if we believe that He is the One sent forth from the Father.

No one comes to the Father except through Messiah. Even as Jesus/Yeshua told the Samaritan woman: the Father is seeking those who will one day worship Him in Spirit and in Truth; represented spiritually by the pure Olive Oil brought continually by the Children of Israel to the Priest tending the Menorah.

Matthew 5:16  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Are our lives like the Menorah giving His Light and Life to a dying world?
