Whats In Your Naos? Part 3

We left the last post seeing how..

Our Heavenly Father uses objects and pictures to make His lessons clear to us.

According to scripture in the ark of the covenant were the items shown in the picture below:

One of the three items placed inside the Ark of the Covenant, was the Manna stored in a golden pot.

Manna was the miracle food that sustained the children of Israel during their journey through the wilderness;

it fell from heaven every night and they collected their daily needs every morning.

Ps 78:34; John 6:31.

Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written,

‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”

32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.

33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

This is significant as we recall Messiah’s words:

I AM the bread of life recorded in John 6:31, 35 and 51

This pot of manna was kept as a memorial

and it did not rot, decay, or perish

as in Messiah

there is no death, decay or corruption;

we shall not see corruption

That whoever believes in Him

should not perish,

but have eternal life. John 3:15

For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell;

neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One

to see corruption. Ps. 16:10

“I am the true bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will not die as your ancestors did (even though they ate the manna) but will live forever.”

English Standard Version

“This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”

Telling us to pray these words…in Matthew 6:9

Give us this day our daily Manna /Bread

The Word of God feeds us spiritually..

He brought the Word of God to the earth – Himself-

He was the Word made flesh and

His words and His Ruach/Spirit, are those which sustain us.

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Matt. 4:4.

This idiom means humans need more than just sustenance to have a fulfilled life; people have both spiritual needs and physical needs. Deuteronomy 8:2-3.

The Hebrew word for Sanctuary/Tabernacle is

Mishkan

and is made up of pictures of:

Water, Teeth, Palm/hand, and Fish/seedling.

If we remove the 2 middle picture letters;

Sheen and Kaf,

 (teeth and a Palm/hand);

from the word Mishkan;

a noteworthy word is formed with the remaining 2 letters

Mem and Noon which are the

Beginning and End/First and Last of the WORD..

It’s the Hebrew word Manna.

MN

Manna

  Noon

Mem

Tabernacle

מִשְׁכָּן

Noon        Kaf         Sheen     Mem

God uses the letters MEM and NOON,

  Noon

Mem

the picture of Waters and a Fish/Seedling,

for His miracle provision of life sustaining food

which are the same 2 letters we find as

the first and last letters

of the Hebrew word Mishkan or Tabernacle.

מִשְׁכָּן

Possible Pictographic Translation of Manna:

  Rain

that

brings

Life.

We have been used to hearing that the Hebrew word

Manna/Mem Nun,

literally means

What is it?

Here the Pictograph language gives us another unexpected meaning.

Instead of a reference to bread it says something else, which can be found in Exodus which relates the children of Israel’s first experience with Manna.

Exodus 16: 13b -14

And in the morning the dew lay round about the host. And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.

They were correct that it had

rained down from Heaven

and Jesus/Yeshua references this fact when He declared that

He came down from Heaven.

And that He is the true LIFE that comes from above.

SO MANNA

is connected with Bread and also connected with Water or Rain.

Interesting to note that Water and Bread were 2 of the most familiar metaphors used by Jesus/Yeshua; even using them together in

John 6:35

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

The water that we drink, in the letter MEM,

is from heaven to the earth;

again just as Messiah came from heaven to earth

and He is also the LIVING WATER.

Here’s an answer to a secret and

is the message to us within the letters:

The Manna – Mem Noon –

that first descended from Heaven to earth was given a name

MN

that would one day be a key

to open the door of understanding

and reveal an answer to a mystery of the

MishkaN/Tabernacle.

Recall, the 1st letter in any Hebrew word is usually the most important, since it gives the 1st clue as to what the word is all about.

So the first letter in Mishkan, the Mem, is the 1st clue that whatever is going on in the Mishkan/Tabernacle is something that has come down from Heaven.

The last letter in Mishkan, the Noon, is the clue that whatever has come down from Heaven has to do with LIFE.

Receiving Jesus/Yeshua as personal Savior and Lord

is just the beginning of a long road –

His WAY to His truth and His life.

It is so much more,

we need a deeper understanding

of that which we are entering into;

of what we are committing to;

what we are agreeing to!

It’s more than salvation of the cross,

and forgiveness of sins that have

been repented of and forsaken…

it’s a lifestyle change,

a mindset altered,

our future final destination reoriented…

and the beginning of understanding the enormity what Jesus/Yeshua did for us

and how God implemented His plan to redeem us

because He loves us so much

and precisely orchestrated our rescue.

Here the pertinence of the Old Testament is crucial

to our understanding of Gods Plan of the Ages.

Jesus/Yeshua came to show us the WAY

and He desires us to follow Him…so why are we still choosing to go our own way?

… maybe because we have not comprehended the enormity and seriousness of His actions …

our attitude of gratitude should be ablaze as the light shining in the darkness.

Is our zeal obvious to others?

Are we truly on fire for Him or are we shrinking violets?

Is our desire to do what He has planned for us, every moment of every day?

Do we even bother to ask Him what He wants us to be doing?

Or do we merely decide our own path and ask Him to bless it and then talk with Him when we remember, or when things get tough?

The Word tells us clearly that we are created for

His pleasure – not our own –

somewhere along the road we have got some crossed wires!

Are we choosing a spiritual temperature to suit our lifestyle, the one we prefer to live? and it may shock us to realize that this is simply not what Jesus/Yeshua calls us to.

Following Him is not doing our own thing/career, etc., etc., and it’s not as many tell themselves just for a few. We have to let go of how the world shapes us and tells us how to live; we have to shake off the ways of the worlds’ education and goals. Reject the opportunities for our prideful achievements. Shun the cultural trappings and mindsets of carnality and ethnic traditions of humanity.

Our true history is HIS STORY; not that of men’s successes and failures or the rise and fall of empires. We are citizens of the heavenlies, natives of a future city not built with human hands.

And we are the NAOS/miqdash of His Ruach.

While we inhabit these physical bodies we are supposed to be keeping them sin free, by walking in repentance and continually applying His blood to our lives; so we too can receive His spirit without measure; to do the works He has called us to do.

Jesus/Yeshua is the Ark we enter into…

He was the Ark of Gods’ Presence and,

as born-from-above-disciples,

we have become carriers, containers of that same Ruach –

Holy, set apart; coming out from among them and being separated unto Him, unto good works.

If a man therefore

PURGE HIMSELF

from these,

he shall be a vessel unto honour,

sanctified, and meet for the master’s use,

and prepared unto every good work.

2Tim.2:12

NOTE We are to PURGE OURSELVES!!

We are now to become the light of the world,

we are a sanctuary, a Naos, of His Ruach…

we are not contained within the physical Temples’ Holy of Holies Sanctuary, but free walking Arks of His Re-Newed Covenant….

Not confined to a building, but equipped to go out into all the world carrying the gospel, the good news of His redemptive plan of grace and mercy.

He tabernacled among us in the Mishkan,

then in the two Temples,

then in the Body of Yeshua/Jesus

and now in each of us.

Soon He will Tabernacle with us forever..

but meanwhile..

The question however remains true today.

What is in the internal Holy place of

worship, sacrifice and atonement –

what is in that sanctuary of the heart?

What’s in our Naos our

Sanctuary?

What spirit is residing in our miqdash?

Consider this:

He was referring to the

pattern of the Mishkan

and Temple layout.

The sinner entered the outer court of the Mishkan/Temple complex through the

East Gate.

This was the WAY in to the Outer Court where the Brazen Altar was.

Here the repentant sinner offered the penalty of this sin

in the form of an animal or bird as an innocent sacrifice..

The priest performed the sacrifice and

the blood shed was a covering for that sin.

The sacrifice was then consumed by the fire on the altar.

Signifying the Holy fire of God consuming all sin.

The High Priest was the only one allowed into the Holy of Holies with the blood to be placed on the Mercy Seat of the Ark.

Sinners could not go any further than the outer court and sin was tolerated only because the repentant sinner had to bring their sacrifice to this point where the altar was.

Jesus/Yeshua was the sacrifice laid on the altar/cross for us.

Once for all time.

The Bronze Laver was where the priests washed before entering the Holy Place or Inner Court.

Sin had been dealt with so entry was acceptable.

This was all a pattern

of how to approach a Holy God a /forgiving father.

The washing signifies water baptism – priests were purified; we are too washed and immersed in the living waters – then, to rise from them cleansed and in newness of life.

This is completing the born-from-above experience; as Jesus/Yeshua Himself was immersed in the Jordans living water and God spoke over the situation. He was overshadowed by Gods’ Holy Spirit/Ruach HaKodesh and this was indicative of being born-from-above/coming from above/heaven.

This process for us, cleanses us;

and as He is our High Priest

and according to scripture we are also priests,

(ministering to the Lord);

we can now enter the Inner court

where our souls can worship Him

at the Golden Altar of Incense;

which is also indicative of prayer.

As our High Priest, He alone is worthy to stand in the Holy of Holies before the Presence of the Lord God and intercede for us at the heavenly Mercy Seat.

Hebrews 8:1 Now the point in what we are saying is this:

we have such a high priest,  uone who is seated at the right hand

of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,

Romans 8:34. It is Christ who died, yea rather, who is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

We are ordinary priests and while still in the flesh cannot enter that Holy of Holies and so Messiah does that for us in the same pattern as the High Priest and Levite Priests.

Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit/enter the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 1Cor.15:50

Yet because of the Blood we can enter spiritually…

Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Here Jesus/Yeshua is also signified as the Menorah;

He is the light showing us the WAY..

When the Ark was placed in the Holy of Holies of the Temple in Jerusalem it is said that the only items inside were the 2 stones inscribed with the 10 commandments.

2Chron.5:10

The pot of Manna and the budding rod of Aaron had been removed.

Could this be because, symbolically as the manna was a wilderness food…

and when the children of Israel reached the promised land with its fruits they no longer needed the wilderness manna?

According to Rev.22:1-4 when we reach the Promised Land of Heaven we will feast on the fruits of the Tree of Life.

The budding rod was the confirming witness that Aaron was the High Priest before God in the wilderness Mishkan.

When they arrived in the Promised Land, Eleazer was confirmed as the next High Priest.

Today Messiah Jesus/Yeshua is our eternal High Priest

I am the light of the world….

He is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.

The Menorah was the only source of light for the priests to offer the incense and to see to eat.

Here we can also eat of Him.

He who eats and drink of me shall have eternal life

It was called the

Shulchan lechem panim – Bread of His presence

because it was where Aaron and his sons, the priests,

ate in His presence.

They were replaced every Shabbat with 12 new loaves.

His light illuminates our lives and we can see to do those things He has commanded us to do.

Sin cannot be present in the Inner Court/ Holy Place.

The one time a year, Yom Kippur, the HIGH PRIEST entered into the Holy of Holies / The SANCTUARY / Naos / miqdash

where the ark of the covenant was

There was no light –

only the shekinah glory of Gods Holy presence illuminated the small room when the High Priest entered

with the blood, to place

on the mercy seat.

Here is the place of intimate communion spirit to spirit –

face to face –

into the manifested presence of a Holy God.

The High Priest had to go

through the veil,

the curtain

separating the Inner Court/Holy Place

from the Holy of Holies.

On the curtain were the cherubim

guarding

the WAY

to the presence of God –

just as in Eden and also Revelation tells us they do in Heaven.

The pattern of the Mishkan is the pattern of Heaven first,

then on earth

and now

Yeshua/Jesus has become the WAY…

through Him.

He is the access to the Father – through Him.

The veil is torn

He has made

and become

the WAY

He is also our mediator of the renewed covenant in His blood.

His blood is on the mercy seat of the ark in Heaven

Heb.9:5; Rom.9:25.

John 14:6

I AM the Way the TRUTH and The LIFE

no man cometh to the Father but by Me.

He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

And is no doubt why the Psalmist said that

as far as the EAST is from the WEST

so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

Ps.103:12

The ONLY WAY in to the Tabernacle/Mishkan

was through the narrow gate on

West side

and the far end on the

East side

was where the kapporet Mercy Seat stood.

This is where the High Priest

placed the blood

that covered the sin/and

now

Messiahs blood removes our sins

not just covers them.

The east is from the west

so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

Ps.103:12

this is in reference to the pattern of the Mishkan!!!

WOW!

A Worthy Of Worship moment!

Destroy this temple and I will rebuild it.

It is also a pattern of ourselves

1Cor.6:19 and 1Cor 3:16
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
Know
ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

The Glory of the Lord will fill our Naos-

Sanctuary/Mishkan/Tabernacle.

Whats In Your Naos? Part 2

Before part 2, here is a brief summary of the Tabernacle, included for the benefit of
any readers who may not have seen previous posts…

Exodus 25 through 40.

The Tabernacle was the Place

Ha Makem’- ‘The Place’-המקום

where God would meet with His people, Israel.

However, before the Tabernacle was constructed God met with Moses in a temporary tent of meeting:

Moses would pitch a tent outside and some distance away from the camp of Israel.

Anyone inquiring of the Lord would go to the tent of meeting – OUTSIDE the camp.

As Moses went into the tent of meeting,

the pillar of cloud would come down

and stay at the entrance,

while the Lord spoke with Moses face-to-face.

The face to face meeting; פָנִים

Strongs 6440: panim or paneh

Phonetic Spelling: (paw-neem’)

(Moses met with Him in the Mishkan),

in the Throne of His Presence

the Womb of Grace and MerciesrachamIM.

https://www.minimannamoments.com/the-mysteries-of-im/

This is recorded in Exodus 33:7, 9.

Moses set up the tent of meeting as instructed by the LORD OUTSIDE of the camp of Israel..

because the Israelites had betrayed, and broken fellowship with Him at Mt. Sinai with the making and worship of the golden calf.

This was disobedience and faithlessness that God could not ignore. Understanding the rift between God and Israel is the shadow arch-type of God’s rift with all mankind.

This separation between God and Man if left un-mended will result in a permanent separation from our Creator called the eternal, (spiritual) death.

It is worse than physical death because it is a conscious death with no remedy, it’s permanent and unalterable.

This was why Jesus/Yeshua came –

He was and is the repairer of the breach.

God provided Moses with specific instructions to build a Tabernacle, a place of sacrifice and worship.

The tent of meeting was transformed into the Tabernacle according to the precise plans given to Moses by God. This is recorded in Exodus 25-27.

This new tent of meeting came to be called the

Mishkan or Tabernacle.

It could be taken up and moved each time the children of Israel changed locations as they wandered through the wilderness.

A literal meaning of the word

tabernacle or mishkan, is:

dwelling place.

God Himself designed all the furnishing and items that He instructed Moses to build.

The pattern or plans given to Moses were to be followed to the letter. There was nothing haphazard about the Mishkan/Tabernacle that God Himself designed.

It was so important that God specifically chose 2 men Bezalel and Oholiab and filled them with His own Spirit in order for them to be able to do the precise workmanship that He required.

For more on Bezalel click link below

https://www.minimannamoments.com/whats-the-connection-between-almonds-and-olive-oil-with-messiah-and-2-lampstands/

But more important than all the furnishings was the fact that the Tabernacle was the place where God came down to dwell among His people.

The Glory of the Tabernacle was not found in the architecture or ornate furnishings of the Tabernacle

but in the Glory of the LORD who made

His temporary dwelling place

in the Tabernacle among His people.

The Tabernacle was to be the center of Israel’s life.

Just as Jesus/Yeshua is to be the center of our lives today.

What makes the Tabernacle itself so very important and of great interest is the fact that the precise instructions that God gave Moses to build the Tabernacle were based on the pattern of a Heavenly Tabernacle

Exodus 25:9
According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.

Who serve unto the example and shadow of

HEAVENLY THINGS

as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the TABERNACLE:

for, See, saith he, that thou

make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.

Hebrews 8:5

The Outer Courtyard of the tent of meeting

was 150 feet long and 75 feet wide

and included the Tabernacle within it.

The centerpiece of this area was an

Brazen/Copper Altar for Burnt Offerings

and a

large Bronze/Copper Wash Basin/Laver

for the priests.

The Bronze/Copper items were made from the womens’ melted down mirrors that were made of burnished bronze/copper that were so shiny they could see their reflection in them, not mirrors of glass that we know today. This is why it was referred to as sea of glass and is a type of the

in Revelation 4:6 says, “Before the throne there was as it were a sea of glass, like crystal.”

Revelation 15:2 And I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who have the victory over the beast, over his image and over his mark and over the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of God.

And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.

The actual Tabernacle itself was 45 feet long and 15 feet wide.

It was divided into two sections.

The first section or Most Holy Place contained the Altar of Incense

a Golden Lampstand/Menorah,

and a Table with 12 loaves of bread/Shewbread

The second section was called the Holy of Holies

it was home for the Ark of the Covenant.

The Ark of the Covenant, among other consecrated items, contained the tablets on which the Ten Commandments were written.

For 40 years the Israelites relocated the Tabernacle, moving it with them as they travelled through the wilderness from Mount Sinai to the Promised Land.

After the children of Israel entered and conquered the land of Israel, Solomon, the son of King David, built the first permanent Temple in Jerusalem.

This magnificent Temple was also patterned after the Tabernacle.

In other words, the Temple replaced the Tabernacle, but the purpose of the Tabernacle and the precise way it was to be built did not change.

The Temple became a permanent structure built in Jerusalem as God had instructed; and it was the center of worship for the Children of Israel.

The Tabernacle is full of mysteries, some of which have yet to be solved; and its probably not an understatement that we could spend many years discovering the secrets hidden in just one of the items God designed to be inside His Tabernacle.

Amazingly, the overall purpose and the entire reason for the Tabernacle, can be seen by looking at the pictographic and numeric meaning of the four letters in the Hebrew word

Mishkan,

the word we translate into English as

Tabernacle.

Noon         Kaf         Sheen         Mem

is spelled

Alef

The first, the leader, the strength to carry out to completion. The Infinite Eternal Supreme Authority. The commander Represented in His Instruction. His Governing Spoken Established, Written, Certain, Established, Surety, Guarantor.

Tav TUh

The promise of DaBaR YaHUaH/ the word of ALaHYM. To be joined together with His restored creation forever and ever.

Consummated, achieved, completeness, restored.

HA Hey Hei

To reveal make evident

HA HEI. He reveals, makes known or evident, His identity His power.

Overt, undisguised, understandable.

Mem,

Hidden and concealed in the reign of darkness where the seed is planted gestation until the time of birthing The due date or Appointed Time

Brooding over Nurturing the comforter

Sheen, Shin ShYN

His Ruach His essence His being The fervent Ardency The intense fiery consuming passionate POWER of His Being evident in the work of His hand like a blazing fire a consuming passion Ruach HaQodesh or Kodesh.

Kaf, KaPh

The Begotten

So it could read…

To reveal, manifest what was unseen, the place of brooding over, (like in Genesis); nurturing by His Ruach, His Presence, to lead step by step in His pattern, a guide to follow a diagram given.

More Meaning of the

מִשְׁכָּן

found in the pictographs.

Mem is the picture of Water

Sheen is the Picture of Teeth

Kaf is the Picture of an open Palm

Noon is a Picture of a Fish/Seed.

The first letter in any Hebrew word is usually the most important, since it gives us the first clue as to what the word is all about.

Is there a connection between the Tabernacle and the waters of the pictograph for the letter MEM?

God is revealing something with the Picture of Water.

Recall that the LORD uses MEM to depict waters, like those that fill up seas and oceans, those that flow down streams and also that which falls as rain from the heavens.

We simply need to understand the context in which the picture is being used.

Understanding that the revelation regarding the Tabernacle/Mishkan is not only about what it is…as an object but

It’s about where it came from and its the key to unlocking this mystery because the precise plans for building this dwelling place with earthly Outer and Inner Courts came from above, the pattern came from His presence in the Heavenly court room.

Hebrews 8:5

Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the TABERNACLE: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.

The LORD of Heaven is going to come down from heavens courts and inhabit the Mishkan, or Tabernacle court and He wants us to keep in our minds focused on that fact.

When we see how water is connected, then the picture of Mem as Rain is fitting, as the rain comes down from above.

Although the letter Mem in the word Mishkan is not about actual rainwater, it’s about something that come down from above just like the rain/water comes down from above the precise plans for building the Tabernacle come from Heaven above.

and the ONE who is going to make the Tabernacle His DWELLING PLACE comes down from Heaven above. And will abide with His people inside the Tabernacle within the Holy of Holies.

The piece of furniture in the Holy of Holies was constructed of 2 parts:

The 1st part was called the Ark of the Covenant. It was a wooden chest/box made of Acacia wood and overlaid with pure gold.

The 2nd part was an ornate lid with 2 golden cherubim with their wings outstretched.

This ornate lid (pictured below), was placed on top of the Ark of the Covenant.

It was called the Mercy Seat.

The Kapporet.

God commanded Moses to put 3 things inside the Ark of the Covenant.

These were

a golden pot of Manna,

Aaron’s staff that had budded,

and the

2 stone tablets on which the 10 Commandments were written.

These 3 items were symbolic of the complaints that God had against His people.

The Manna was a reminder of how the Israelites complained about and were dismissive of God’s amazing provision

The budding rod of Aaron was a reminder of how the Israelites rejected God’s leadership.

The stone tablets on which were written the Ten Commandments was a reminder of how the Israelites had broken all of God’s laws.

Any one of these complaints would have been legal grounds for banishment and punishment.

However we must pay attention and look where these 3 illustrations of Israels’ sins of unworthiness and unfaithfulness are kept.

They are hidden inside the Ark of the Covenant, secreted away, kept out of mans view and

covered

by the

Mercy Seat.

God uses objects and pictures to make His lessons clear to man.

Yeshua/Jesus is our Ark

and our

sins are not only

covered

by His Blood which is now on the

Mercy Seat/Kapporet

but wiped away for ever…

and our lives are now

hidden

with Christ in God.

 Col. 3:3

What’s In Your Naos?

Naos is Greek for temple

but properly

means

SANCTUARY

Often translated temple however,

Sanctuary

is a more correct word.

Another word for

temple/sanctuary

in Hebrew is

HEYKAL

Palace/dwelling of the king

Spelled:

Hey Yod Kaf Lamed

The meaning of the Hebrew paleo pictographs tell us something:

Hey – Man with raised arms = Behold or, pay attention to what follows.

Yud – Arm and hand closed = a work or, a mighty deed.

Kaph – palm of hand = to cover, to allow, to open, to atone.

Lamed – shepherd staff = to shepherd, control, to have authority or the voice of authority.

The picture it gives could be:

Behold pay close attention

the temple is a place where

the mighty works of the one in authority

will be revealed.

This work or mighty deed is of course:

the atoning sacrifice of Yeshua/Jesus.

Each letter also has a number value:

Hey – 5 = Grace

Yud – 10 = something ordained in heaven

Kaf – 20 = Redemption

Lamed – 30 = points to a blood sacrifice.

It could be interpreted as the following:

The great work (Kaf)

we will behold (Hey)

is the blood sacrifice of Yeshua (Lamed)

which was

ordained by the Father in Heaven (Yud)

And:

This (Yud/10) work was carried out

under the Authority of His Father(Lamed/30)

and by His Grace (Hey/5)

will result in Redemption (Kaf/20)

The HEYKAL

is where God and His people

developed their relationship

and was prophetic…

the mystery which Paul revealed in

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (KJV) 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

There is no need of a rebuilt Temple/Hekel/Sanctuary for those who have His Ruach dwelling within… however all scripture must be fulfilled and the rebuilding of a 3rd Temple is in accordance with Gods’ plans to be carried out prior to Messiahs return.

Namely the situation described by Paul in

2 Thess. 2:3,4

This structure will not be for the benefit of our Heavenly Father or for Yeshua/Jesus return, but it is to fulfill prophecy as concerns the false Messiah and we are reminded by Paul that:

His Sanctuary is now is IN us.

The Sanctuary is the portion of the temple (and previously the wilderness tabernacle/mishkan); that was

set apart – Holy to the Lord.

Not the Holy Place but the Holy of Holies.

John 2:18 and 19 – 21. Jesus/Yeshua answered and said to them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

In Greek, Temple is ‘ieron.

The Letter h is the accent mark and is called

the hard breather.

Hieron

So what’s in a word? … does it matter?

Yes, because…

We are not to be like the Tabernacle/Mishkan building or the Temples of stone, where there was an outer court where sin was acceptable.

1Corinthians 3:16, 17; 16:19

Our bodies are now the sanctuariesNaosthe set apart place – His holy of holies….

This Naos/ Sanctuary is for His Holy Spirit to dwell/ abide.

Ruach HaKodesh.

The Holy Spirit of a Holy God cannot dwell where there is sin…

1 Corinthians 3:16 King James Version (KJV) 16 Know ye not that ye are the Naos of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

2 Cor. 3:18

And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

The more that we commune with Yeshua/Jesus and come into His presence,

more of the veil that divides will fall off

and we will be able to see more clearly.

Then more of His glory will abide within us, and then be reflected through us.

His glory will be seen upon us.

Glory

In Greek – doxa:  honor, glory

Original Word: δόξα, ης, ἡ
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine
Transliteration: doxa
Phonetic Spelling: (dox’-ah)
Definition: opinion (always good in NT), praise, honor, glory
Usage: honor, renown; glory, an especially divine quality, the unspoken manifestation of God, splendor.

Glory in Hebrew:

ū·ḵə·ḇō·wḏ

וּכְב֣וֹד

kabowd

Faith has its’ seat in the heart.

The kind of faith which believes in the God who created the Universe and Who also created us and a belief that He loves us enough to give His life for us.

John 3:16; 2 Corinthians 3:3.

It is engraved there. It is not written in ink, or engraved on stone, but it is written on the heart by the Spirit of God.

With the heart man believes with the mouth we confess

Therefore any professed belief that does not reach the heart, and has its home there, is most likely to be false and delusive being more head knowledge of the intellect and mind.

The Hebrew word for sanctuary is

mikdash (מקְדָּשׁ),

which comes from the root word

kadash (קָדַשׁ),

to be set apart as sacred.

A mikdash is therefore a

set apart space, or a holy place

that represents something treasured – a place of beauty and worship, a refuge, a place of rest.

Hebrew Translation. מִקְלָט.

More Hebrew words for sanctuary.

noun מִקְלָט. shelter, refuge, asylum, haven.

noun מִקדָשׁ. temple, shrine

miqdash

מִקְדָּשׁ

miqdash or miqqedash: a sacred place, sanctuary

Strong’s Hebrew: 4720. מִקְדָּשׁ

(miqdash or miqqedash) — a

chapel, hallowed part, holy place, sanctuary .

Or miqqdash (Exod. 15:17) {mik-ked-awsh’};

from qadash; a consecrated thing or place, especially, a palace, sanctuary (whether of Jehovah or of idols) or asylum — chapel, hallowed part, holy place, sanctuary.

מִשְׁכָּן

mishkan: dwelling place, tabernacle

Strong’s Hebrew: 4908

Original Word: מִשְׁכָּן
Transliteration: mishkan
Phonetic Spelling: (mish-kawn’)
Definition: dwelling place, tabernacle

In the Old Testament the word

miqdas [ v’D.qim] from qds, holy,

implying a distinction between space that is sacred versus profane; commonly refers to the worship sanctuary (e.g., Exod 25:8), where the Israelites offered their various kinds of offerings and sacrifices to the Lord under the supervision of the priesthood.

[The] Sanctuary

is a term in the Hebrew Bible which refers to the

inner sanctuary of the Tabernacle

where God’s presence appeared.

According to Hebrew Tradition, the area was defined by:

four pillars which held up

the veil of the covering,

under which the Ark of the Covenant was held above the floor.

Tabernacle, Hebrew Mishkan, dwelling, in Jewish history, the portable sanctuary constructed by Moses as a place of worship for the Hebrew tribes during the period of wandering that preceded their arrival in the Promised Land.

Moreover, the English translation becomes even more confusing when interpreters translate two entirely different Hebrew words

(אהל and משׁכן, ohel and mishkan, H168 and H4908),

by using the exact same English tabernacle word.

In the case of Exodus 26:7, this translation is especially hard to understand, as the two different Hebrew words are used so close in the same sentence.

Another word for

tabernacle or tent is:

OHEL

the Hebrew letters:

alef – hey – lamed

In the middle of a word h or hey

or man with raised arms means:

to reveal the heart or the core of.

Placed in the middle of the word for God it becomes the word

o-hel or

lamed hey alef (reading right to left)

this word for a tent or the tabernacle is presented as:

the heart of God revealed.

This shows that both your home and where you worship, reveals your god.

Lord who shall abide in thy tabernacle?

Who shall dwell in your holy hill?

Psalm 15:1

OHEL

The heart of God revealed.

God is EL = the letters alef and lamed

and H = hey behold revealed.

The tabernacle was the place of God’s revelation.

Our tent or home where we live is where our God is revealed.

Strongs#168

Again, when the letter H/hey is

in the middle of a word

it reveals all, especially the heart.

The god that we follow is revealed in the tent/home and in the tabernacle, the place of worship.

It is relevant not only for the home/physical structure or building we live in; but also the home within ourselves that we create for His Ruach HaKodesh/Holy Spirit to live/abide/dwell.

Our physical bodies become the home of spiritual power; the seat of spiritual influence and it can be the opposite of holy as Jesus/Yeshua warned in

Matthew 12:43-45

“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.

Impure/unclean spirits call peoples bodies their house!

What’s In our Naos/Sanctuary/tabernacle /house/home?

What’s in our OHEL?

Let the Lords words in John 14:23 be our desire and goal as Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

The Tabernacle no longer served a purpose after the building of Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem in 950 B.C.

His Holy Spirit cannot be where there is sin, so any where there is sin there is no presence of His Spirit/Ruach

This is recorded in

1 Samuel 4:21,22

Ichabod the glory has departed for the ark (dwelling place) of God has been taken

Ichabod definition is — used to express regret for departed glory.

Ichabod was born after his father’s death. His mother gave him this name on her death-bed to indicate that the “glory (had) departed from Israel” (1 Samuel 4:19)

and it was what Samson realized when he tried to do as he had always done and in Judges 16:20
Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!” He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him.

Sin is manifested rebellion against God’s commands and will for our life. It can be in many and take various forms in our lives.

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. 1Samuel 15:23

Consider this for a moment that: In other words, God deems rebellion to be the same or equal to witchcraft and stubbornness is just as good as kneeling or falling down before and worshipping a statue of another religions god or any other idol for that matter.

Another translation says:

For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry.

Rebellion definition is – opposition to one in authority or dominance.

Rebellion, uprising, or insurrection is a refusal of obedience or order. It refers to the open resistance against the orders of an established authority.

A rebellion originates from a sentiment of indignation and disapproval of a situation and then manifests itself by the refusal to submit or to obey the authority responsible for this situation.

Sin must be dealt with because we cannot approach a Holy God with any sin in us.

Jesus/Yeshua said He was the temple/ sanctuary when He referred to Himself and that when His body would be destroyed He would rebuild it in three days. Speaking of His future resurrection and glorified body.

He had the Ruach/Spirit without measure because

He was without sin and

His Fathers Spirit could dwell within Him to the fullness.

Mishkan is spelled

Mem, Sheen, Kaf and Noon.

מִשְׁכָּן

noon kaf sheen mem

(Read right to left)

Mishkan is the Hebrew word we translate into English as Tabernacle.

The Mishkan was a Pattern, showing the children of Israel

the process to approach the Holy presence of Adonai/YHVH.

Sin has to be dealt with before that can take place because, God and sin cannot coexist.

The life is in the blood and sin requires a price to be paid and wages of sin is death.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

So a sacrifice must be made and blood has to be spilled

Life has to be forfeit to cover the sin. And that life must be innocent without sin and without blemish clean and acceptable to the Lord.

Jesus/Yeshua became that innocent, clean, without blemish life.

He willingly gave His life, allowing His blood to be spilled.

His life was forfeit to cover our sins once and for all time.

The Pattern of the Mishkan and later both temples,

show God’s redemptive plan

in the structure of the building

and in all the furniture within.

Also in the priests clothing

and in the format of each of the ways

every action was carried out.

Jesus /Yeshua was literally the fulfillment of the Mishkan/Tabernacle and the Temples.

Both were just as our bodies are while on earth:

temporary physical dwelling places for God’s presence,

His Ruach HaKodesh/ רוח הקודש ‎,

Ruach HaKodesh is God the Creator:

In the Tanakh/Bible, the words breath and Spirit are 2 different translations of exactly the same word: רוח /ruach.

Of the 348 times ruach appears in the Tanakh, it is translated 321 times as spirit and only 27 times as breath.

It would seem that the Ruach Hakodesh is divine inspiration or prophetic inspiration and is not the same as what is generally taught in Christianity. No place in the Hebrew Scriptures is there any reference to a spirit divine in itself, or Holy Ghost, as distinct from a spirit that comes from God to inspire human beings.

His Ruach HaKodesh is called the Comforter, which is the word used for the advocate who goes before the judge on behalf of someone to plead his case.

We are told in this verse that this pleader, who comes from the Father at the request of Yeshua/Jesus, will teach us all things.

Ruach Ha-Kodesh (ROO-akh hak-KOH-desh)

Holy Spirit; the Holy Ghost

(Luke 3:16; 11:13; Eph. 1:13; 4:30; 1 Thess. 4:8;

Titus 3:5; 1 Cor. 6:9; Jude 1:20).

Occurs more than 90 times in the

ReNewed Testament/Brit Chadashah.

Hebrew: רוח הקודש, holy spirit

also transliterated ruacḥ ha-qodesh

is a term used in the Hebrew Bible and Jewish writings

to refer to the spirit of YHWH (רוח יהוה).

He fulfilled the pattern of the process to approach the Father’s presence with His Own Blood as the sacrificial atonement for all sin for all time, for who so ever will accept that that is exactly what He has done.

As High priest He entered into the

Holy- NAOS/ miqdash place –

the Holy of Holies

and placed His own blood on the

Mercy Seat of The Ark of the Covenant.

The kapporet.

This required Him going through the veil that hung between the Holy Place where the menorah/ showbread/ bronze altar of incense were and the Holy of Holies where the Ark was.

It is recorded that the temple veil/ curtain was torn at the moment of His death, opening the WAY to the father’s presence the Holy of Holies where the ark of the covenant was located.

I AM the WAY

His death was the acceptable sacrifice and we can now access God’s presence without any further sacrificial death needed and that means, no more priests are needed either; as

Jesus/Yeshua is our High Priest.

He became forever the WAY to the Father – the truth and the life.

The Life in His blood is eternal it will never die and He is alive for evermore.

Now we can also enter in through the veil

because it was torn for us.

The blood of bulls, goats, lambs and birds dries and decays; His blood contains the eternal nature of the God of all creation who sits on the eternity of eternities.

This is life everlasting, full of glory.

The blood continually speaks and cries mercy for us.

The Blood still speaks because it still has a voice.

Ever speaking from the Mercy seat of the ark… His blood covenant with us.

How is it possible? Because the very life of God is in The Blood of His Son.. His blood is still alive it has not dried up and never will, The life of the creator is eternal in nature so it is alive forevermore just as His Son is life everlasting and full of glory.

Hebrew Scriptures devote more time and attention to the Tabernacle, and everything contained inside the Tabernacle than to any other single thing. So it would seem we need to pay more attention to this pattern too…

Significant items found inside the Tabernacle would include

the Altar of Burnt Offering,

the Laver,

the Table of Showbread,

the Lampstand,

the Altar of Incense,

the Ark of the Covenant with

the Mercy Seat.

the Ark of the Covenant contained

the stone tablets on which were written the ten commandments,

the manna preserved in a clay jar,

the budding staff of Aaron

As we have already noted:

Mishkan is spelled

Mem, Sheen, Kaf and Noon.

Mishkan is the Hebrew word we translate into English as Tabernacle.

Noon         Kaf         Sheen         Mem

Transliteration: mishkan

Phonetic Spelling: (mish-kawn’)

There is one major theme revealed in the pictures and numbers  of the Hebrew word pictures that we translate as Tabernacle.

It is interesting to see that all the other mysteries contained in all the sacrifices, ceremonies furnishings, construction and architecture of the Tabernacle have their root in this one Eternal Truth.

The Tabernacle was built on the earth

but

it is actually a Shadow, a Type,

of something everlasting in the heavenlies…

and it was shown to Moses in the book of Exodus!

Conclusion in Part 2..

What Is The Connection Between Two Mountains The Ark Of The Covenant And Messiah Being Thirsty? Part 3

The ancient Hebrew understanding of these 2 words-

blessings and curses is

the keeping or breaking

of the commandments of God

is not about mechanical obedience and disobedience of His commands but rather our attitude towards them.

If you love me, keep my commandments. John 14:21-24
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Will we cherish His commands or will we throw them on the ground and walk on them?

Heavenly Father/Avinu in Jesus/Yeshuas’ Name

may we have

a heart to know,

eyes to see,

and ears to hear.

Truth itself lies on neither mountain but in the valley between.

Here flow the living waters of Jacobs’ well.

Photo above from 1934 – the well is now enclosed.

The 12 tribes were present

and also the High Priest

together with the priesthood

who stood in the valley

with the container of that covenant agreement

– the marriage vows – the ark of the covenant.

Joshua stood beside the ark.

Joshua was a type and shadow of Mashiach/Messiah,

taking Gods people into the promised land;

just as Yeshua/Jesus has made the Way into the promised land/presence of our Heavenly Father.

The ark was representative of God’s throne on earth

containing the presence of God with them

Jesus/Yeshua was the living ark

containing the presence of God with us – Emmanuel.

The Tabernacle of Ancient Israel

was a sanctuary

which was given in a vision to Moses

as a pattern

and constructed by the children of Israel.

God’s promise was that He would dwell within the Holy of Holies above the Mercy Seat of the Ark of the Covenant.

And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among (in) them – Exodus 25:8

Sacrifices continued to be brought once the Jews arrived in the Land of Israel,

first in the Mishkan

which stood in Gilgal for 14 years, until 1259 BCE,

then in the Tabernacle at Shiloh

for the 369 years of its existence—1259–891 BCE,

and then in the First and Second Holy Temples in Jerusalem

which stood for 410 and 420 years respectively:

833–423 BCE; 353 BCE–69 CE.

In this imagery, the relationship of Moses to Messiah on earth, parallels that of Jesus/Yeshua and the Father/Av/Avinu in heaven:

Ex.25:22: “there . . . I [Jesus representing the Father] will meet with you [Moses a type of Christ; cf. Deut.18:18; Heb.3:1-6];

there are many points of typological symbolism between Moses and Messiah in scripture.

The ark was representative of the real ark in heaven.

And Joshua stood beside the Ark

The Tabernacle and the Ark are also a type of Messiah:

just as was Noahs ark… we are to get into the ark/into Jesus/Yeshua and we are to live and abide IN HIM.

In Him we live and move and have our being.

We are to remember what the Word says,

All scripture is given by inspiration of God,

 (God-breathed)

and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: … 2Tim.3:16

When we look at the scriptures we must remember that.

When it came to the Scriptures,

that was the view of Jesus/Yeshua and

that was the view of the apostles, and mustn’t that also be our view?

The Scriptures don’t just contain the Word of God, or just point to religious experience, they are the Words of God.

No surprise that each and every detail and Word about the tabernacle has spiritual significance?

As we look to the tabernacle structure itself and its unique pieces of redemptive furniture; there is great symbolism and typology found in them.

Remember, everything was a finger pointing to the Messiah.

The tabernacle, as a type, designed specifically and in detail by God, would point to the character and aspects of the ministry of Messiah.

1 – The altar – Gods willingness to accept Jesus/Yeshuas’ sacrifice Heb. 13:10

1 – On Atonement Day the High Priest offered a sacrifice for the sins of the people.

Lev 16:15, 29-31

1 On Nisan 14   33CE Yeshua/Jesus sacrificed His life on our behalf.

Heb. 10;5-10; 1John 2:1,2

2 The Holy place – Yeshua/Jesus’s spirit – begotten condition.

Matt. 3:16, 17; Romans 8:14-17; Heb. 5:4-6.

2 The High Priest Jesus/Yeshua. Heb. 9:11

The curtain – Yeshua/Jesus’ fleshly body – the barrier that separated earthly life from heavenly life. 1Cor 15:44, 50; Heb 6:19, 20; 10:19,20

After His resurrection Messiah passed to the other side of the curtain’ by ascending to heaven to appear before the person of God for us. Heb. 9:24-28

The Most Holy – Heaven. Heb. 9:24

3 Once inside the Most Holy the high priest sprinkled some of the blood of the sacrifice before the ark of the covenant. Lev. 16:12-14.

3 By presenting the value of His shed blood Jesus provided genuine atonement for our sins. Heb. 9:12-24; 1Peter 3:21,22.

The more we become familiar with the Tabernacle/Mishkan, the more we become familiar with Messiah and all that He means to us.

Messiah in the Mishkan:

A copy of reality – what the tabernacle pictured

The veil taken away in Messiah revealing.

The holy of holies – the lifechaim.

The altar of incensepraise and worship.

The Holy place – the truthemet.

The golden candlestick/menorahHis Holy Spirit.

The brazen/bronze laversanctification.

The ark of the covenant – the Fathers presence.

The outer court – the way/derech – the door/dalet

The brazen/bronze altar – the cross and the blood.

The table of showbread – the Word of God/Yeshua/Jesus the word made flesh.

Heb. 10:20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,

Col. 2:17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.

Jn. 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

It is a Representation of the True Tabernacle in Heaven:

The Lord wants us to be aware of His nature and character. Even the angels don’t fully understand the nature and character of God but they learn from watching His dealings with His church (Eph 3).

In reality things are happening in the heavenly dimension and the Lord wants to reveal to us what took place in heaven after the resurrection of Jesus/Yeshua.

There is a real tabernacle in the heavenlies and Messiah really appeared before the throne of heaven as the Lamb of God (Rev 5).

There is no doubt that some of these things are a mystery but the more we draw close to God and His Word the more He draws close to us.

Heb. 9:11. But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.

The Presence Within the Holy of Holies Dwells Within the Believer in Jesus/Yeshua:

Jesus/Yeshua said: I am the temple (Mishkan) of God.

When the glory (Hebrew: Sh’chinah) would come swirling down like a funnel or tornado right through the roof of the Holy of Holies and His Presence would manifest on the mercy seat between the cherubim after the blood was sprinkled, that was the Mishkan.

That Presence was what Jesus/Yeshua said dwelt within Him.

Paul said about the church, Know ye not that you are the temple/sanctuary/ Mishkan of God?

The Tabernacle or Mishkan means tent of meeting. It represents the Shekhina or indwelling presence of God.

Gods Glory filled the tabernacle.

A cloud covered it by day and a fire by night Ex.40:34, 38; Num. 9:15.

The tabernacle was also a place of protection or hiding place Ps.27:5

Jesus/Yeshua is the Gate/Door. John 10:7

and the Narrow WAY. Matt.7:13

Exodus 26

We, as the body of Christ, have the same Presence dwelling within us.

Today, God doesn’t dwell in buildings – now He dwells within His people.

1 Cor. 6:19. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

The Ark of the Covenant was a picture of the Messiah: Jesus Christ/Yeshua HaMashiach. It speaks not only speaks of Messiah’s work in atonement, but of who He really is, i.e. His Personhood.

The Ark was a box made of Acacia wood, (just as the cross was), overlaid with gold. Acacia wood speaks of the indestructible humanity of Jesus/Yeshua. As the wood represents His humanity then the gold both inside and outside the ark represent His deity.

In the case of Noahs Ark –

The pitch protected the people inside, making a water-tight seal,

and Messiahs’ blood covers our sins and protects us

from the wrath of God.

God Himself became flesh and suffered the agonies of the human experience. He was tempted, He was weary, He got hungry and thirsty; He had to learn the Scriptures, obedience and to hear God’s voice; and then to be led by His Fathers Spirit/Ruach HaKodesh as a man.

Does the Acacia wood seem to tell us that He was 100% man and the pure gold that overlaid the wood teach us that He was 100% God?

Jesus/Yeshua said:

unless you believe that I AM you will die in your sins.

He used the same words (Hebrew: eheyay asher aheyay) as at the time when the Lord spoke to Moses at the burning bush!

Stone found on Mt.Gerizim.

The Jewish Messiah was none other than JeHoVah/YHVH Himself visiting His people and becoming their savior by dying for the sins of the world and that is the etymology of the name Jesus/Yeshua.

Hebrew. Y’shua = ‘Yaweh has become salvation’.

Jesus/Yeshua condemned the religious leaders for not recognizing the day of their visitation.

The crown of gold around the top of the ark speaks of the Lord Jesus Christ as King of kings and Lord of lords.

Jesus/Yeshua overcame the onslaught of opposition that was set against Him His whole life by the religious leaders, the wealthy Jewish aristocracy, Rome itself, and even all the power of the enemy. He overcame even death itself and rose triumphantly and was given a crown, and glory, and honor, because He is the King. According to John it was Jesus/Yeshua who Isaiah saw seated on the throne of glory with the angels crying ‘holy, holy, holy.’

The unbroken tables of stone set forth Messiah as the One who perfectly kept the Law and never broke God’s Commandments. The Bible says that Hecommitted no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth. In Him dwelt the law of God perfectly (stone tables).

Jesus/Yeshua felt the pressure of temptation at its full intensity yet He never sinned.

Aaron’s rod that budded also speaks of Jesus/Yeshua, the priesthood of God fully; something that had died and supernaturally came to life again.

Jesus/Yeshua said,

I am the resurrection and the life.

The golden pot of manna speaks of Jesus/Yeshua as the bread of God in abundance, who came down from heaven to bring food,

(the bread of life, the Word of God,)

to a world in darkness and dying of hunger.

The Ark of the Covenant was where Gods justice and judgement toward sin was satisfied. It is referred to almost 200 times in the Old Testament.

Covenant

The Biblical definition for covenant is a binding agreement between two parties.

The Greek word Diatheke (Testament).

The Hebrew word for covenant is b’rit and actually means:

to cut the covenant.

It was cut by the shedding of blood and the walking between the two pieces of flesh (Gen. 15).

A b’rit could not be broken.

When you enter into a covenant you make a solemn promise of love and protection to one another and the promise is made everything that is mine is therefore yours.

There were some traditional steps in cutting the ancient covenant:

The robe (life) was removed.

The belt (strength) was removed

A sacrifice was cut in two pieces.

Each would walk between the pieces

Intermingle the blood of the right hand. (scar)

Receive the others name.

Sit at a table together

Plant a memorial

Scripture mentions several covenants made between man and man, such as Jacob and Laban, and David and Jonathan.

It all points to Jesus/Yeshua.

Even the golden poles speak of the

ever living and ever present Savior

who is with us in all our journeying and

will never leave us nor forsake us.

In the history of the ark there are striking resemblances to the ministry of Messiah Jesus/Yeshua our Lord:

The ark went before the people – Jesus/Yeshua went before them:

John 10:4 And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.

The ark was in the middle of God’s people – Jesus is in His people:

John 14:20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

The people were to follow the ark – We are to follow Jesus:

Luke 5:27-28 After these things He went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he left all, rose up, and followed Him.

The ark was always first to lead them.

It was death to those that were enemies of God.

The ark brought blessings and curses.

Isa 53:2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.

Isa 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Matt 5:17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.

1 Pet 2:22 “Who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth”;

Gal 4:4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

Jn 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.

Jn 6:32 Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven.

Jn 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Jn 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

When Jesus/Yeshua spoke to the woman

at the very same location

He Himself was the container and carrier of the covenant –

the renewed covenant that would be cut with His Blood.

He was standing/sitting in the valley between the 2 mountains and offering the choice.

He was also representative of the priesthood and our High Priest; the coming Mashiach to them and to us:

the ark of His presence

the carrier of the gift of Gods promise of salvation.

It could also refer to the multitudes in Ezekiels valley of decision!

Which will people choose?

Shamar – keep obey and receive blessing

or

Parar – break …disobey and be cursed

trampling underfoot the offer of living water in Jesus/Yeshua?

How shall we escape from these curses and receive God’s blessings when we can never perfectly obey God’s law?

We are to march from the Ebal, the Mount of Cursing to Gerizim, the Mount of Blessing,

through

the perfect obedience of another Man.

Above: Mount Ebal and Mt. Gerizim looking west.

We stand daily between the mountains and

daily choose Gerizim life and blessing abiding in Him.

We like Joshua have the ark beside us it is Jesus/Yeshua.

Yehoshua and Yeshua from the same root word – Savior and Redeemer.

Like Old Covenant Israel, we the holy nation of the New Covenant only have a foretaste of God’s blessings.

We enjoy these blessings now, spiritually and even materially.

Unlike the Samaritans and the Jews, we do not have to go to Gerizim or Jerusalem to worship and receive blessings from God, because Christ has been sacrificed on his Mount Ebal, the altar of Calvary.

This is why after His sacrifice for all the elect from the whole world, Jesus/Yeshua commanded His disciples to go and teach all nations… because salvation has expanded from Jerusalem, to Judea and all Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

Through Messiah’s sacrifice, God has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places” (Eph 1:3).

But the perfect blessings of Mount Gerizim would only come when we finally dwell in the new heaven and new earth, where we will dwell with God forever.

All of us still dwell between Mount Ebal and Mount Gerizim.

We look back to Mount Ebal when we remember His sacrifice to remove God’s curse on us when we were still lost sinners; but then we also remember Mount Gerizim as we enjoy our blessings in this life while waiting for the fullness of our blessings in the life to come.

Another parallel is found in Matt 25:32-46 The day is coming when Messiah will be in the midst of two companies, those on the right, the sheep, and those on the left, the goats.

One group receives Gerizim/ blessings and the other Ebal/cursing!

Shechem is on the tribal border of Ephraim in the south and Manasseh in the north Mt Ebal was in Manasseh and Mt Gerazim in Ephraim. This is interesting from the standpoint that Manasseh and Ephraim were the sons of Joseph with his Egyptian wife and therefore half Egyptian, representing the heathen world being embraced by the tribes of Israel! As Jacob accepted/adopted Josephs 2 sons as his own.

Messiah is now our High Priest

Jesus the Great High Priest. 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace …Hebrews 4:14-16

and the priesthood that stood with Joshua is now declared in 1Peter 2:9

9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Truth itself

lies on neither mountain

but in

the valley between.

Here flow the living waters of Jacobs well.

Jesus/Yeshua

is the WAY the TRUTH and the LIFE

The Source of LIVING WATER!

The Hebrew word for truth is `Emet, which refers to a truth that has proven itself reliable. You could translate it “faithfulness” or even “reliability.” `Emet is a word that describes God; He is a God of truth, so our relationship to God must be according to truth.

Interestingly, Jesus/Yeshua said the same thing in this same spot when He told the woman at Jacob’s well that the worshippers God seeks are those who worship Him in “spirit and in truth” (John 4:23-24)—worship with one’s inside, the spirit, not just the outside. Jesus/Yeshua said: “in spirit and in truth;”

Joshua/Yehoshua said: “in sincerity and truth.”

Did Jesus/Yeshua had Joshua’s words in mind as He sat near Shechem where Joshua spoke?

Joshua also tells them to:

put away the gods which your fathers served.

He calls them together at Shechem as if to say:

“Remember how Abram put away his idols and came here, and remember God’s promise to Abram in this spot? Remember how Jacob put away his idols in this spot? Remember how you yourselves shouted the blessings and the curses in this spot? Do you want God’s blessing in the land? Then you too put away your idols in this spot.”

We should put away what is wrong and embrace what is right—or better, who is right, because Joshua says again at the end of v 14: “serve the LORD.”

Then comes the most famous verse in the whole book of Joshua: “And if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD” (24:15).

“So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and made for them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem… Then Joshua dismissed the people, each to his inheritance” (vv. 25, 28).

As they left Shechem they were to remember the past and live in light of it. We too, as we live the lives God has given us, should remember from where God, in His grace, took us—from a down-hill slide to destruction into a relationship with His Son. We should remember how God, in His grace, has taken care of us since then in spite of our continued disobedience.  In light of God’s faithful past in our own lives, we should personally renew a whole-hearted commitment to the Lord today. As that was Joshua’s challenge to Israel at Shechem, and it is a good one for us to heed too.

The well was between the borders of Manasseh and Ephrain Josephs 2 sons who were born to Joseph and his Egyptian wife symbolic of the in grafting of sheep from other as they were accepted into the tribes of the children of Israel.

The ark in the valley of decision was symbolic of future Messiah bridging the gap and making the WAY back to the Father…restoring broken fellowship/relationship and removing the need for any further sacrifice for sin/disobedience and the curse which was a result of that choice.

Messiah was the flow of living waters that He offered to the Samaritan woman at the well of Jacob situated at the base of Mt Ebal… that would wash away all the result of sin after repentant hearts turned from ebal/curse to Gerizim/blessing.

His Truth – The Truth was in the valley between –along with the High Priest, the mercy seat of the ark where He became our blood sacrifice, our High Priest and the full manifestation of all that the Mishkan represented symbolically, and included the rejected Samaritans.

His love and offer of eternal life is all encompassing He was rejected so that we could be included.

He is the truth and that is like Joshua and the ark between the 2 mountains…

He is the Ark and He is the living waters that He offered to the Samarian woman;

and when we are thirsty like He was,

we are to drink deeply of Him and choose the blessing of Gerizim through our obedience to His commands;

while we guard, protect, preserve and cherish His covenant with us sealed in Messiah’s blood.

As the Samaritan woman was looking for Messiah the first time He came, we are to be keeping watch for His soon return!

Shema Yisrael Adonai Eloheinu Adonai Echad.

we are to fear no evil for

He is already there…

put your trust in Messiah, whose sacrifice was the once for all fulfillment of the animal sacrifices on the altar of Mount Ebal, then we can march upward to the heavenly Mount Zion, the mountain of God’s blessings.
