Isaiah 41:10,

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Yea.

It’s a word we read but we may not stop to consider what it really means in the context of the sentence. On first glance, we may assume it is just a KJV, older word used in the modern English language for yes.

The word

yea

in Hebrew is

אַף־

’ap̄-

Pronounced: af

Strongs: 637

In modern English we would say,

But, better yet…”

ap – yea – better yet.

Think of other verses that have the word yea in them,

and insert

But better yet….

For example Psalm 23

Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

But better yet….

though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

It is a great encouragement to us but better yet means,

it is more to us than we thought at first.

We need this encouragement because n this world we will have tribulation:

In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, John 16:33

These are words from Messiah, Himself, not only to those with Him at the time He said them; but to all His followers down through the ages.. With the warning comes hope and comfort, because He says

I will be with you even to the end of the age. Matt.28:20

Isaiah encourages us with this promise in chapter 41:10, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

And this promise is still in effect and true to us today.

We will all experience times of testing and trial, Peter tells us to think it not strange Beloved, concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 1Peter 4:12-13

We are told that, far from being strange and surprising in God’s plan, these fiery trials are “necessary.”

Instead he urges them to be sober and to pray, 1 Peter 4:7; and to help one another through the trials. 1 Peter 4:8–11.

In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith — more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire— may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

In Acts 14:22 we are reminded that tests and trials are necessary. “Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God”

This is a godly “must. It’s the same word and the same concept as Peter says in

The fiery ordeal that is coming upon us to test us is not strange.

Why is it necessary? Its the question many ask, why do believers/christians suffer?

The answer is because it’s God’s refining judgment in our lives, working maturity in trust towards our Father, so that our faith may result in our Heavenly Father receiving praise, glory and honor. Whatever trials come our way, we should not be surprised, simply place our spirit/souls and bodies in the hands of our faithful Creator, and don’t be ashamed of Messiah and His gospel of the Kingdom,. Rejoice in hope, and fill our lives by planting good seeds, while walking obediently in His will and His ways.

The trials and testings of our faith reveal to us, where we are in our faith walk with the Lord. He already knows where we are.

Many of us will never experience true hardship or enduring circumstances that are unthinkable in a modern western society. Books like the Insanity of God and Fox’s book of Martyrs among countless others, reveal a faith in God beyond what many believers will ever have to show. And yet, we will all experience situations where we will be required to rely on our faith and trust implicitly in our Savior.

This is why there are so many verses of encouragement and promises of protection, assuring us that He is with us through every trial we face whatever they may be.

In Isaiah 41:10 for that is exactly what this verse is saying.  When we face a real threat, God is telling us not to fear. Many times when we read the word fear, it is in reference to the fear of the Lord not as in terror or being afraid, but having reverential respect for Who God is.

In this verse the word for fear used here is a fear is for one’s own personal safety.  The reason we need not fear is because God is with us – Emanuel.

He continues, saying, “Be not dismayed.”

In Hebrew, the word dismayed here is

 tisheta

which has a Semitic root meaning

to be blind.

Be dismayed –

תִּשְׁתָּ֖ע   tista

tisheta – tsht – tet sheen tet תִּשְׁתָּ֖

Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance 8159

depart, be dim, be dismayed, look away, regard, have respect, spare, turn

A primitive root; to gaze at or about (properly, for help); by implication, to inspect, consider, compassionate, be nonplussed (as looking around in amazement) or bewildered -blind to- depart, be dim, be dismayed, look (away), regard, have respect, spare, turn.

If a person is really terrified, that fear causes an irrational reaction, and they are blind to what is actually happening, as their imagination runs wild about what is about to occur.

Here our Heavenly Father is reassuring us saying

“I am with you.”

In those days there were many gods being worshipped and demanding all kinds of sacrifices for favors, but not one of them was promising,

I am already with you

as Our Heavenly Father was.

In the next verse He says that

He will strengthen us.

The word

strengthen

in Hebrew is

‘amas

which from its Semitic root carries the idea of

imparting courage.

Also spelled immatz

אִמַּצְתִּ֙יךָ֙ 553   אִמַּצְ

’im·maṣ·tî·ḵā

He promises that:

We will receive courage at the moment we need it.

The next word is the word

yea.

As already noted, in Hebrew

אַף

this word is

‘ap  or aph

In all the various Semitic languages, Ap is a common word and in the old Testament it is rendered as:

even, indeed, surely, how then, how much more, and also;

and in its Semitic root we saw how it has the idea of:

how much more.

and in today’s language we would say something similar to:

But, better yet.

We could read it as our Father is telling us that

not only will

He give us courage but better yet,

He will help us.

עֲזַרְתִּ֔יךָ

In Hebrew there is an interesting meaning for the word

help.

It’s the word

azaretika

עֲזַרְתִּ֔יךָ

   5826 עֲזַרְ

Phonetic Spelling:

aw-zar’

Definition: to help, succor

עָזַר ʻâzar, aw-zar’;

a primitive root; to surround, i.e. protect or aid:—help, succour.

‘ă·zar·tî·ḵā,

In the Old Testament it is rendered as :

even, indeed, surely, how then, how much more, and also.

Its Semitic root however, has the idea of

how much more.

From the root word 5826

‘azar

and gives the concept of:

protection

with the idea of

supporting us and assisting us in the battle

not as in a controlling person who completely takes over.

In other words we still need to participate in the fight, but He is telling us, not to worry He has got our back.

Isaiah 52:12 For you will not leave in a hurry nor flee in …

For the LORD will go ahead of you; yes, the God of Israel will protect you from behind.

2 For you shall not go out with haste, Nor go by flight; For the Lord will go before you, And the God of Israel will be your rear guard

God is our rearguard

and for those in the military,

Our Heavenly Father has our 6!

There’s one more word that has

better yet  -‘ap – אַף

before it,

and that is:

God will not only give us courage to enter this fight, but better yet, He has our backs/our six;

but even better than all of the previous promises,

He is upholding us.

The Hebrew 8851 word for

upholding is tamar

I will uphold you

te·maḵ·tî·ḵā  – תְּמַכְתִּ֖יךָ

This word in its root form means:

to take hold, hold fast,

or glue oneself to something.

Think of this, and visualize that our loving Heavenly Father not only gives us courage and protects our backs, but He will glue Himself to us, literally sticking with us!

Our confident assurance is that Father God is not only watching our back, but most importantly His presence is glued to us.

The more we stare at an overwhelming situation, our confidence in our reasoning quickly fades, However as we turn from it towards our Savior, it is quickly replaced by confidence in our Heavenly Father Who loves us.

Even if we don’t yet feel that we have all this courage and support, God promises that it will be there when we need it. Isaiah 41:10 assures us of that. He will never be caught off guard because in Psalms 121:4: we are assured “Behold, he that keepth Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.”

Isaiah 41:10, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

History records that King Solomon had twenty armed bodyguards, elite warriors guarding him every night as he slept. We have a security greater than any king or president, we have the God of all creation keeping watch over us.

Psalms 121:4: Behold, he that keepth Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.

He is a body guard who does not slumber or sleeps. He is on duty every moment of each day 24/7.  Our Heavenly bodyguard does not slumber and he also does not sleep.

In Hebrew sleep – ישן

Yod Shin Nun

yashan

Our Father God does not live in time like we do. He created time for us while we are in the earth. It is almost impossible for us to understand it from this physical realms’ perspective. He is not only with us every moment of every day, but we also have the added assurance that He never slumbers nor sleeps.

Why does it say both slumber and sleep?

The word sleep in Hebrew is yashan.  It means: to sleep, but is can also mean: to grow old.  The creator of the universe will never grow old. Obviously It is impossible to outlive God.  He is there with us never growing too old or feeble to help us or encourage us.

Slumber in Hebrew is num

which means; a half sleep that is to get drowsy or have a tendency to doze off. We hear of many kinds of accidents which happen not because the operator or driver fell asleep; but because they were drowsy and not paying attention. Our Heavenly Father has His full attention on us both night and day, He will never sleep nor will His attention be diverted by drowsiness or slumber.

The word keepth in Hebrew is shamar

which means:

to be a body guard, one who watches over to protect

As our body guard, He is unlike other body guards who need to sleep because God needs no sleep and He watches over us 24/7.

Are sleep and slumber the same thing?

Not if we understand it in the sense that, there may be a guard who is self-disciplined enough to not slumber, but obviously however self disciplined he, is he is going to have to sleep some time; the body cannot function properly without the sleep that God designed our bodies to need.  Here we are assured that our Heavenly Father does not slumber and neither does He sleep.

The Hebrew word yashan – sleep, is spelled

Yod – Shin – Nun

The letters of the word many give us some insight, teaching us more than what we think of when we think of sleep; and it helps us to understand what the people in David’s day thought when they heard that God does not yashan or sleep.

The first letter to

ישן

yeshan – sleep

is the

Yod which teaches us:

to be careful not to be so focused on future events that we miss what is happening in the present.  When it is written, the letter Yod is hanging in the air and has no connection to the ground.   The fact that God never sleeps means, he has His attention focused on the now moment. Whatever we are going through in that very moment He is there focused and fully aware of it.

In yashan

The second letter is the Shin.  The Shin represents:  The fiery passion of God, His deep love for us is always available, He is never too tired or sick to give us His attention.  He is ready to share His passion with us whenever we are ready, making Himself available to us any moment, not when He just feels like it, and we have to wait for Him to wake up.

Nun is the last letter which reveals that our Heavenly Father will never be distracted nor will he let his attention be diverted because he needs to sleep. He is attentive to us all day and all night.

From this we can take great comfort when He says that He will stand guard over us and never sleep it means that He will watch and protection is for every moment in our lives until we see Him face to face.  He is watching over us right now, no matter what we are going through.   Because He does not sleep means, His watches carefully over us and makes his passions available to us at any time, and He is never too tired to pour out His love on us. Finally we must accept the fact that He does not sleep means, that there is nothing to divert His attention away from us.

By declaring that He is watching over us and never slumbers or sleeps, He is telling us that there are no holes or gaps in His protective covering. There is no better place of security than to put ourselves under His care.

Every reader, be comforted and encouraged, whatever is going on in the world around us….Remember…

Yea- ap – how much more

is He with us /Emanuel, through every test and fiery trial because,

as the word keepth / shamar / means to be a body guard 24/7 One who always has our back and because he never slumbers /num  nor sleeps/yashan. Do not fear and do not be afraid for the tests and trials.. He has overcome the world. John 16:33

Occupy Till I Come

Anyone who has been following Messiah Yeshua/Jesus for any length of time is painfully aware of the fact we are in an ongoing war. It is not simply a physical war but one that originates in the realm of the spirit. This war will not stop until Messiah returns; which is why He told us to..

occupy til He comes!

Luke 19:13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

When He said that, it is a call to build and extend the Kingdom of Heaven using/applying all the resources, gifting’s and talents that our Heavenly Father has imparted to us for His purposes.

And because the war is not a physical one we are told that

are not carnal/physical in 2 Cor. 10 :4 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;

They are mighty through Him.

The enemy’s warfare and battle plans are rooted way back in ancient millennia, he is not new at the tactics he uses against us; which is why we need the insight provided by Ruach HaKodesh/Holy Spirit, so we can wage a victorious warfare. There is one kind of warfare which we now term as guerilla warfare which does not play by any known or mutually agreed rules or strategies. This is where the enemy knows that those they are in conflict with are so strong that they cannot win; but nevertheless they hope to gain a victory by wearing down the enemies troops with a type of guerilla warfare or terrorism. Daniel 7:25 tells us this that the wearing out of the saints is a very well used strategy.

This is the kind of persistent and unabated assault that brings us to the point of just wanting to give up; it’s summed up in the word attrition. It involves consistent harassment which causes extreme frustration causing one thing after another to hinder distract and we often say the idiom: like having a spanner in the works! Everything we try to do is plagued by annoyances, irritations and aggravations. Certainly most readers will have had these kinds of experiences at one time or another.

The scriptures are written for us for many reasons 2 Tim. 1:7 & 3:16 to encourage and educate and we are most certainly not alone in our fight.

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: His Word is for teaching and for showing people what is wrong in their lives. It is useful for correcting faults and teaching the right way to live.

One great example of how the enemies tactics occur is in the life of Nehemiah when he returned to Israel from the Babylonian captivity and discovered that the land had been taken over by many people from other nations including the Amorites and Moabites. These new occupants resisted the Israelites when they began to return to their homeland. One reason they feared the Israelites was because of their support from Persia, the then most powerful nation in the world. The people who had taken over Israel knew that victory over the Persian Empire supported Israelites, was a war they could not win; but they could harass them to the point they might give up and go back to Persia. This war of attrition has never stopped and is still evident today both against nations and individuals.

For those readers who may not recall that the story of Nehemiah and Ezra takes place at the time of the return of Israel from captivity where they were exiled.  The Northern ten tribes of Israel, Samaria were taken into captivity by the Assyrian Empire.  After the collapse of the Assyrian Empire, the Babylonian Empire became the world empire and the Northern ten tribes of Israel were scattered throughout the world.  The Southern Kingdom, Judah, remained unconquered until the rise of the Babylonian Empire, which finally conquered Judah and took them away from their homeland.

During their captivity Babylon fell to the Persian Empire.  Daniel was a favorite of the Persian King Cyrus the Great (559-530 BC) and the Jews enjoyed favorable status with the Persian Empire.  This, however, resulted in much jealousy among the people of the other conquered nations. This jealousy was evident in the story of Haman who plotted to have the Jews destroyed. The plan was thwarted because of the courage of Esther (a Jew) who was then the Queen of Persia and had much favor with her husband King Xerxes who was the grandson of Cyrus the Great (486-465 BC).  Esther’s step son King Araxerxes I (465-424 B.C.) granted a decree that allowed Nehemiah and Ezra to lead their people back to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple under the protection of the Persian Empire.  This is almost a repeat of Jewish History beginning in 1948 AD when the United Nations granted Israel the right to return to their homeland.

The responsibilities on King Artaxerxes and the increasing threats of war from other nations became so great that he put his son Susa in charge over the Israelites. Susa was the grandson of Esther and sadly had no respect for her or the fact that she was Jewish and so Israels support from Persia broke down.

Both Nehemiah and Ezra had faith that even when Persia’s support failed them The Lord God Almighty would not ever fail them. If God wanted Jerusalem to be rebuilt He could and would do it, without the help of the Persian Empire. This proved true however, the lack of support from Persia did give their enemies some confidence to further harass Israel.

God never fails us but sometimes people give up before they see the answer to their prayers and needs, failing to simply trust in our heavenly Father and His timing and provision.

We read in Ezra 4:4: “Then the people of the land weakened the hands of Judah and troubled them in building.”

So it would appear that the battle including these acts of attrition were effective.

The expression

their hands were weakened

is an ancient idiom meaning

to become discouraged and fearful.

The word weakened

in Hebrew is

meraphim

spelled mem resh pei yod mem

Ezra 4:4
HEB: עַם־ הָאָ֔רֶץ מְרַפִּ֖ים יְדֵ֣י עַם־
NAS: of the land discouraged the people
KJV: of the land weakened the hands
INT: the people of the land weakened the hands the people

מְרַפִּ֖ים

Meraphim comes from the root word

rapah

which means:

to sink down or to loosen one’s grip.

The word is found in a Piel (intensive) form so it really has the idea of:

just letting go.

In other words,

just giving up.

It’s not a strange thing to experience, and no doubt most readers have felt that way at times during both personal lives and in ministry. Sometimes It can seem as if individuals just focus on and take aim at you from every angle, criticize, condemn, and accuse you of things that you never said, did or intended. Nothing is going the way that was hoped or planned and if we are not vigilant with our hearts, eventually, a person can become discouraged and then they meraphim or give up. Sometimes ending up with deep resentment and bitterness. Those in ministry are getting no response, no one seems to want to support them and they face one obstacle after another; it seems the enemy is relentless. The idiom of the last straw, the final blow to all the fighting and pressing in falls on us and its all designed with the goal of getting us to give up- to merephim.

The constant harassment by their enemies caused the Israelites to become so weary, tired and discouraged from the mocking rhetoric. The attacks were not actually physical to them personally, but while they were building the walls their homes were robbed and their crops destroyed. This persisted and when Nehemiah returned after a visit back to Persia, he found the people had merephim – weakened and given up.

They had given up working on the walls to protect their own interests and they had fallen into spiritual paganism and idolatry.

Ezra encouraged the people and stirred them up to complete their mission

and so did Nehemiah.

This is where we get our well known phrase in

Nehemiah 8:10:

The Joy of the Lord is our strength.

We will not fulfill God’s work for us if we fall prey to the work of the enemy, to his war of attrition and his terrorist attacks against us like Judah did, and allow negative thinking and words to control us. Instead, we need to fill our hearts with the Word of God like Ezra did, by finding a congregation, assembly or fellowship of like-minded believers where you can encourage each other with songs of worship, praise and joy, and then enter into the joy of the Lord. When we encourage others with songs and testimonies of praise and joy and they in turn encourage us, together we will stop the enemy dead in his tracks. For where you were merephim – weak, the joy of the Lord will make us strong.

Ezra 4:4: “Then the people of the land weakened the hands of Judah and troubled them in building.”

There is a personal application for us individually in our own spiritual walk with our Heavenly Father and Paul, gives us a solution in Ephesians 15:19: “Speak to one another with Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.”

We must not allow the work of the enemy to succeed against us like Judah did, and allow negative thinking and words to control us.

Instead we need to fill our hearts with the Word of God like Ezra did and encourage each other with words from scripture.

The Hebrew letters resh-pei in the word for weakened, reveal an interesting insight and it may be this is what has happened with those in charge of some countries and their citizens.

The Resh – people have become judgmental;

Pei – people talk to much; and the

resulting in them becoming self-deceived.

Are countries inflicting a war of attrition against themselves and thereby weakening themselves? If this way of life continues, no doubt many will give up.

Here as in Exodus 19:2.

many need to

face the mountain.

As the Body of Messiah, we are to have a combined mission and goal and the more united we become as one with Him, He is us and we in Him; that common commitment and devotion to the Fathers’ will, plan and purpose will transform any barriers that prevent victory. It will turn them into stepping stones on our way to achieving that which our Heavenly Father has called us to do. It seems that until we are faced with an insurmountable mountain, our petty differences will not diminish. And until we are delivered from pride and ego and put our focus and intent on hearing, receiving and being a doer of His Word, any forward motion and spiritual maturity is hindered and splintered.

Proverbs 22:10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

Cast out the scorner/scoffer/tormentor and strife will go, for where there is strife there is every evil work. James 3:16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every evil practice.

Prov 13:10. Among the proud there are always contentions: but they that do all things with counsel, are ruled by wisdom.

Arrogance leads only to strife, but wisdom is with the well-advised.

Strife can develop when a difference of opinion becomes the priority in a relationship. Strife and war or fighting are inseparable.

Strife is always accompanied by pride and an unteachable spirit.

Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.

For where envying and strife is, there is confusion. Where emulation, zeal, and rivalry exist, there also are sedition, anarchy, restless disturbance, and every villainous act. The whole state is evil, and utterly contrary to the rule of the Gospel.

The enemy will always try to divide and conquer and sow questioning seeds of doubt and unbelief, causing our faith and trust in people to waver. It started in the garden…and will not stop until Messiah returns. Keep that helmet in place protecting our minds from the whispering accuser.

In the secular world it is said that to be successful one must surround oneself with positive people. If we surround ourselves with negative thinkers and talkers we will become negative too.

If anyone has ever helped out in the nursery during meetings you will quickly learn an important lesson. If one of those little ones began to cry, within moments the others begin to cry and truthfully, adults are not much different.  If we are around one person crying, complaining and moaning, it’s not long before others add their own complaints.

We sometimes feel we in a prison or a hole in the ground with seemingly no way out.

Psalms 28:1 “Unto thee will I cry, O Lord my rock; be not silent to me: lest if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.”

silent to me

The Hebrew word for

pit is bore

953 bowr: cistern

Original Word: בּוֹר

Transliteration: bowr
Phonetic Spelling: bore
Definition: a pit, cistern, well

בֽוֹר ḇō·wr.

בּר, cistern,

pit Exodus 21:33 (verb פתח),

prison/dungeon pit with no water in it

Jeremiah 38:6Zechariah 9:11

Crypt, pit, of the grave Proverbs 28:17;

which could mean a well, a prison, or a crypt.

In ancient times a prison was a pit that someone was thrown into and without someone sending down a rope, a person could not get out of it. Similarly, if you fell into, or were lowered into a well, as old abandoned wells were often used as a prison, remember Joseph?  Crypts were used for the same thing, they are places where once you go in, you usually don’t come out.

Regarding Psalm 28, to say that if David doesn’t hear from the Lord, he will die or enter a place he cannot get out of.  Some of us have no doubt felt like we entered a dark place, like a deep well or a prison and if we did not get some direction and help from our Heavenly Father, there was a feeling that we would never escape.

It’s a curious statement that when David says that he calls on Adonai, He is silent. Does it simply meaning that when David presents his request to Adonai, his prayer is not answered?

The word silent is karash. חָרַשׁ

karash/charash: altogether

It is closely related to the word karas which means to be rough.

Maybe some of us can relate to that feeling, wondering why our Heavenly Father seems to be being so rough with us? The word Karash isn’t only used for silence but in its primitive form, refers to a plow or till which makes an engraving into the ground.  In the form of a noun, it’s describing a cutting instrument. The word karas spelled with a Sade at the end means to lacerate, or wound. Karash is also used for an enchanter, magician, or to be artificial. It could be understood that silence from our Heavenly Father is similar to the cutting of a deep wound.

The use of this word would seem to point to the situation David was not asking for deliverance from the problem he found himself in, as he had confidence that was already covered. Rather he was wanting deliverance from the deep emotional distress he was experiencing, which was the result from people who were saying things about him that were not true. Could it be that this was the deep hurt, fear and worry that followed, causing an overwhelming feeling of oppression and dread that stole his joy for life itself?  David was speaking as if he just wished Adonai would take him home and away from it all; even today, that’s not a strange wish for many going through horrible persecution. In such a position we wish for and desire to know our Heavenly Fathers comforting presence and in the next verse David speaks of his supplications

Heb. Canan/ chanan.

Tehinnah

Or (feminine) tachanuwnah {takh-an-oo-naw’};

from chanan; earnest prayer — intreaty, supplication.

HEBREW chanan 2603

chanan: beseech

Original Word: חָנַן
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: chanan
Phonetic Spelling: khaw-nan’
Definition: to show favor, be gracious

chanan/canan/Supplication here means:

to show favor.

David is saying that he is showing favor to God and He is doing it with his hands lifted up.

Questions we need to ask ourselves, when we go to our Heavenly Father with a need, who is it we are wanting to favor, ourselves or our Heavenly Father?

David is asking that he not be drawn away from the Lord by the intentions of the wicked in verse 5. The verses seem to indicate that to him the pressures of job, relationships, and health, were not that important; and we know that David did suffer the loss of his job through the broken relationship with Absalom his beloved son, as well as the loss of his health.

What David was looking at in this verse was not what he had lost physically but how they affected his relationship with his Heavenly Father.

In Psalms 98:1, David is praying and knows the Lord is his rock; then he is declaring that his job, his relationships, his health are not the rocks he depends on in his life and he can live without them.

He is saying that he cannot bear to  lose his relationship with his heavenly Father. He is begging the Lord not to leave him because he would not be able to handle that, it would send him into a dark pit and he would die.

Messiah said we would have trials troubles and tribulation in this life and they are for the continuing working out of our salvation in the process to spiritual maturity. Phil.2:12

These mould us and shape us into the people our Heavenly Father wants us to be by sifting and refining us and the process purifies our hearts. At anytime we feel He is far away …He is not, He is simply allowing the testing of our faith and trust in Him, desiring us to seek Him more whatever our circumstances look like. We are to occupy til He comes again

and spiritually don’t give up an inch of ground already won; and encourage ourselves and others with Nehemiah, that our joy, and in turn our strength is in, and comes from, only Him. So

don’t give up

because we are assured in

Joshua 1:5 & Hebrews 13:5

that He will NEVER leave us nor FORSAKE us…

EVER!

EnCOURAGEment For Challenging Times Because…

Our Times Are in His Hands!

(and NOT the hands of the clock…)

Psalm 31:15

It is true that we are not alone during challenging times because not only is Fathers Ruach HaKo’desh always with us..

but as Peter reassures us… that it is NOT unusual or unexpected, knowing that your brothers and sisters throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering and much worse.

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial among you, which cometh upon you to prove you, as though a strange thing happened unto you  if your faith is tested as by fire. 1Peter 4:12 and 5:9

Resist him, standing firm in your faith and in the knowledge that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering.

1Peter 5:9

There are many, many people everywhere, who are going through tumultuous situations and persecutions those in the west have never even imagined. The old adage is also true there is always someone worse off than where we find ourselves at any given time.

We are encouraged to remember 2 Cor.4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh out for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

Compared to our temporal afflictions eternity surpasses all imagination.

During research this video came across the desk and it serves to remind us to remember that the garment of praise will lift the spirit of heaviness off of our lives.

In Psalm 43:5 David encouraged Himself in the Lord declaring with hope and confidence.

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

God’s love is stronger that the deepest darkness

Whatever the circumstances that prompted David to write Psalm 31,

it sounds as if he was feeling overwhelmed and in need of urgent rescue,

he cries out to his Rock and His Fortress.

Be enCOURAGEd…He’s got YOU..

We too must cry out to Him, when things in our lives seem overwhelming…

Our times are in Your hand; O God, we wish them there;

Our lives, our souls, our all, we leave Entirely to Your care.

Our times are in Your hand: Whatever You deem to do;

Pleasing or painful, dark or bright, As best may seem to You.

Not everything that happens is overwhelming to everyone but that doesn’t make it any less of a trial. We are all different and deal with things in as many ways; yet His Word says in Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Here, encouragement is given to saints in suffering.

To them, under God’s providence, all things, even their sorrows, trials and persecutions, work together for blessing.

 Because it continues

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

We are being conformed to the image of his Son/ Jesus/Yeshua through all these things.

We can know God through reading His Word and when we seek to know Him, He has promised us understanding. In order to grow and thrive in our relationship with Yeshua/ Jesus, we need to be rooted in the Word of God, our source of life and strength because….

We are to be rooted in His Word which will keep us grounded in His Word.

Col 2:7

having been rooted and being built up in Him, and being strengthened in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding with thanksgiving.

The necessity of being rooted and grounded in the Word of God is because it holds supernatural power and authority which cannot be defeated by the wisdom of mankind.

We are to do whatever it takes to be thoroughly grounded in the truth. (Ephesians 2:19—20).

Pray in the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 6:18). This means we need to use the connection that we have with God so that we can take on God’s mind. Our prayers should strengthen that bond and make us more like Him. Keep yourself in God’s love. That ye, being rooted and grounded in love. Eph. 3:17

When we need encouragement to begin the day, a reminder to keep us going, or the comfort only God can give, being rooted in His Word will keep us grounded in His Word so then God’s Word will accomplish its purpose in our lives.

Being rooted and grounded means we will be properly prepared to BRACE OURSELVES and be equipped for that which is to come.

His hand is upon us and His fingerprints are everywhere!

He knows our situation and He knows the future. He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for each of us.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” —Jeremiah 29:11

God’s Word transforms our lives—healing, guiding, and changing the way we live.

Ephesians 3:17
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

Colossians 1:23
if indeed you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope of the gospel you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.

1 Corinthians 1:8
He will sustain you to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The center of encouragement is COURAGE and this is what we need…

Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Be strong, and of good courage,

“Be Strong and Courageous!”

In Hebrew, the word for that phrase is “Hazaq“.

(or Chazak)

“khazak ve’ematz”

(חזק ואמץ).

Be strong= khazak

(kheit zayin quf) חזק.

and courageous = ve’ematz

(vav alef meim tzadik sofit) ואמץ.

Deuteronomy 31:6 New International Version (NIV) 6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Qof – Zayin – Chet

Be strong. chazaq (khaw-zak’) to fasten upon; hence, to seize, be strong (figuratively, courageous, causatively strengthen, cure, help, repair, fortify), obstinate; to bind, restrain, conquer. and of a good courage. ‘amats (aw-mats’) to be alert, physically (on foot) or mentally (in courage) be not afraid.

“ Be strong, and of good courage, for you will cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.”

Joshua was to be ‘strong’, The word often indicates strength of hand, however Joshua’s hand was to be strong because his spirit was strong.

In Joshua 1 the children of Israel commanded four times to be strong and of good courage. Sometimes we are neither strong nor of good courage, no matter how hard we try to be and no matter how many people tell us to be.

Here is where we have to trust the Lord to supply our need according to

Phil 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

and those riches are

The measure of His supply to you will be the immeasurable “riches of His grace” (Eph 1:7)

God is not just telling us to be strong and of good courage, within the words themselves He has built how we are going to be strong and of good courage. the word for strong is chazak/chazaq;

this strength is a strength that comes from binding oneself to something…and this is where we are to bind ourselves to Him and receive His strength.

The combination of the Chet and Zayin is quite unusual.

The Hebrew word strengthened is Chazaq and means to fasten upon, to seize, to strengthen, to encourage, and to fortify.

Maybe these were the circumstances that prompted David to write Psalm 31,

This envy and jealousy turned to hatred, and Saul was determined to kill David, even though the prophet Samuel had said David replace Saul as king. Even as Saul pursued David, there were some including Saul’s own son Jonathan who came alongside to help David,

And Jonathan Saul’s son arose, and went to David into the wood,

and strengthened his hand in God.

And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee;

and thou shalt be king over Israel.

1 Samuel 23 15-17

Jonathan strengthened David’s hand in God. when those we know are in distress we are to come alongside them and care for their needs. As already mentioned the word strengthened in Hebrew is Chazaq and means to fasten upon, to seize, to strengthen, to encourage, and to fortify.

Chazaq is spelled Chet Zayin Qoof. (Read r to l)

aq z cha

Chet    is the picture of the fence.

Zayin is the picture of the axe or harvesting tool and means to cut or cut off, to prune, or to harvest.

Qoof/Quf  is the picture of the back of the head and means behind, the last, or the least.

From these we could interpret that; the least will be cut off or separated into a sanctuary/placed apart.

David was so discouraged and must have felt like he was the least important person in Israel thinking that he would be cut off /killed by the Saul. However, Chazaq reminds us of God’s protection towards David and although his fear of King Saul was justified; God had other plans for David; in particular that one day he would indeed be king.

The numerical value of the letters reveal that God would be influential in David survival and ultimate victory.

Chet   is the number 8 and indicates a new beginning.

Zayin   is the number 7 and stands for spiritual perfection.

Qoof is the number 100 and means election or the children of promise.

Below are some more paleo pictures of

Chet – Zayin – Qoof

Looking at the meaning of the numbers, we can see that God has had an absolutely perfect spiritual plan resulting in a new beginning for each of His children…

which is – freedom from the penalties of sin would come through Messiah Jesus/Yeshua.

The ultimate example of God’s Chazaq for us:

But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God,

ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

 Romans 6:22/23

It is expressing both a joining with God and an involvement with God. The Qof at the end indicates that this binding process is a purifying process.  Our Heavenly Father has to take away from us all the trust we place in ourselves so that the world can see that our trust is only in Him.  Sometimes it feels like having a bandage ripped off your skin!

Another Hebrew word is emas which can also means strength, but this is a resolute strength, meaning being firm in one’s position.

(The word Hamas also comes from this.)

The letters that make up the word: emas

Strong’s Hebrew 3988

and is spelled  אֶמְאַ֥ס

and this expresses the idea that this courage comes from humbling yourself to the revealed Word of God and being resolute in it.  In this case of the revealed Word of God in Joshua 1:9 is that He will be with us wherever we go.

If we are firmly planted in that Word, we will have that courage to face our Jerichos.

Even though we may have to march around our Jericho seven times or more but each time we march around and each time we walk away, our faith will be increased a little more until we have reached the point of faith that we can simply shout and the walls will come tumbling down.

Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have];

for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!] [Josh. 1:5.]

6 So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently and boldly say, The Lord is my Helper; I will not be seized with alarm [I will not fear or dread or be terrified]. What can man do to me? [Ps. 27:1;118:6.]

Be encouraged mishpochah
